You can't beat the price of a movie ticket here at the Byrd. For only $2 each, you can see movies that were recently in theaters but not yet on DVD. The theatre has preserved it's historic touch and feels like a jump back in time. It's a great place to go on a weekday or weekend night.

This place runs a couple of WAY out of date movies but they only charge 1.99 per person. Inside the theatre is worth seeing. My wife and I paid our 1.99 to just go in and look around then we left before the movie started. Unfortunately we were not able to visit on a Saturday night and that is the only time the Organist plays before the movie. I would have loved to have had that pleasure. The help was rude and I am pretty sure if you sat through a whole movie something would have crawled in and nested in your shoe or your popcorn. The inside is not restored but in pretty good shape and has many engraved moldings and interesting architectural features and yes, they have curtains that actually lift like in the old days to reveal the screen.

We love taking our kids to the Byrd Theater. The movies are all $2 and the snacks and all $2 as well. The inside of the theater is just beautiful and the kids really enjoy the "old time" feel it has. The seats are a bit uncomfortable and close together, but that is all a part of the charm of the Byrd. Love, love, love it.

Cool movie theater showing films for $1.99 a ticket. Built just before the stock market crash in 1929, it retains the glamor of that era. It's popular because of the price of tickets, but also because it's just a fun place to see a movie. Seats are not comfortable, but hang in there because they're due to be replaced with seats from a theater in France after the next Cannes Film Festival. How very cool!! That's Richmond for you!
