Yeah, ecumenicalism is alive and well in downtown Richmond, wish I lived there I would be a communicant, loved the history of the place and the Tiffany stained glass windows were beautiful. The congregation was warm and welcoming...

St. Paul's, a Greek Revival Church, was built in 1845 as a branch of the Monumental Church. A massive entrance portico of eight columns with ornate Corinthian capitals dominates the exterior of the building. You can't help but admire the windows, tombs and monuments inside the Church. The church is located across the street from the State Capitol. It has long been a popular house of worship for political figures. It was on Sunday, April 2, 1865 that Jefferson Davis (President of the Confederacy) learned from Robert E. Lee that he had lost the Civil War. The 10-month siege was over and he could no longer defend Richmond. The city was evacuated and much of it burned (deliberately); Lee surrendered at Appomattox exactly one week later.

I was there during the Lenten season and plan to attend the 30 minute sermon tomorrow. They have a nice Lenten lunch after the service. All are welcomed here.

A little peace and quiet reflection in the middle of the noisy bustling city. I highly recommend their mid-day services for a time of renewal. I have not eaten their lunch there but have heard great things about it.

We visited St. Paul's as part of a walking tour of Richmond. Our guide was very knowledgeable and pointed out some of the highlights & history of the church. It's really beautiful inside. The altar is worth seeing closeup and the stained glass is beautiful.
