If you have time put this on your list of places to visit. It's staffed by volunteers who are there to help explain the history of the many modern wars. There is an entertaining movie with fake snow and special affects worth seeing.

My adult daughter and I visited yesterday and were given a guided tour of the Virginia War Memorial by a knowledgeable museum volunteer who served in the Viet Nam war. We were shown the museum area, with lifelike statues dressed in donated US uniforms from the current middle east war going back to the American Revolution. We also saw an impressive collection of guns and other artifacts from previous wars. Having lived through the Viet Nam era, it was especially poignant for me to see examples of the guns and uniforms used by my friends and relatives who served. I also appreciated hearing first-hand information from our tour guide about his years as a soldier in that war.

The entire site includes a memorial and a museum/education center. The memorial displays the names of men and women from Virginia who died in service from World War II to the present. In the education center, the new theatre is state-of-the-art. We were shown a well-produced film depicting real war conditions in WW II, Korea, Viet Nam, and the middle east...with actual snow falling during the Korea piece and realistic explosive visual and sound effects -- just an amazing presentation. We also had the chance to see a film that featured the remembrances of several Virginia Viet Nam veterans, including those of our guide. The entire visit -- about two hours -- was something I wouldn't have missed.
