“Fantastic Historic Home and Stay”
Reviewed 13 February 2008

My girlfriend and I decided to try the B & B for the weekend to get away from campus for awhile. We were originally slated to stay for Friday, but unfortunately due to weather, her flight was cancelled and we arrived the following morning. We had the pleasure of meeting Anna on Saturday morning and remained at our leisure until we decided to partake in some sightseeing. Anna was very understanding of the situation and the flight cancellations and was hospitable enough to offer us breakfast. She even made dinner reservations for us that night. The historic home facilities were top notch, the bathroom alone is stunning with the two-person claw tub and steam shower. Late in the evening, we had champagne and a wide variety of cheeses. The space of the main suite is excellent and gives the feeling of home. Breakfast the next morning was also good, and we took our time and slept in. I will also note that the location of the house to be great for sightseeing. Overall, the weekend was relaxing and leisurely, all spent in the eloquence of a great home. Anna was a pleasure to meet. My only complaint is that there is a cat, so I would advise people with allergies to prepare just in case.

My husband and I have stayed in dozens of B&B's over the years and would rate this one of the best. The innkeeper provided every amenity we could want in her classic comfortable home. All recently redecorated and renovated, this 1920's home sits in an ideal location for walking to Richmond's Fine Arts Museum and the Virginia Historical Society. It's also a short stroll to Cary Street with all its shops and restaurants. Our room was on the street side of the house, and though it was a well traveled road, we never heard a sound. We loved just walking the neighborhood.

Our room, the John Lane Suite, had a queen sized bed and half bath attached. A full bath was a few steps across the hall and was for our use only. Thick terry cloth robes were provided for the walk across the hall to the shower. A small room with a twin bed is also part of this suite, and it had access to a second floor porch. This would be great when the weather is pleasant; not so much in January. There are two other suites available, but we were perfectly satisfied with the one we had. We paid $150 on a weeknight stay and felt it was well worth it.

Anna offers a variety of wines and cheeses along with other snacks in the late afternoon, and she can direct you to any number of wonderful Richmond restaurants. We had the opportunity to chat with other guests and share dining recommendations. She likes to feed her guests well. Her breakfast is a many-coursed feast of the freshest baked goods and fruits, eggs, local bacon, oatmeal and fresh squeezed OJ. No one leaves this place hungry. We were graciously served in the bright dining room.

We would definitely return to this B&B and would recommend it to anyone visiting Richmond.

Staying at this B&B has ruined us for other bed and breakfasts. It is like the innkeeper, Anna, thought up a wish list of every luxury you could want and has fulfilled them all. Our suite was exquisite, with lovely sitting room, gas fireplace, flatscreen TV with surround sound, then a cozy bedroom with luxury linens, chaise lounge and Bose wave CD player, a little office with wi-fi, books and a coffee pod machine, and lastly, a gorgeous bathroom with a long deep clawfoot tub, 2 person steam shower, toilet and bidet with lush towels and robes. We had brought snacks along but didn't need them as she laid out a wonderful wine and cheese buffet in the evening along with a box of chocolate-dipped strawberries to take with you back to your room. Breakfast was quite hearty with fresh squeezed OJ and the best bacon we have ever tasted - we had to buy some from the butcher around the corner to take home with us! Anna is a charming hostess and we really enjoyed our time there and can't wait to go back! We didn't venture too far from the B&B, but it is in a great location to explore all that downtown Richmond has to offer.

I stayed here on business, and didn't know what to expect because the inn just opened for business a couple months ago. Almost instantly it became one of my all-time favorite places to stay.

Anna, the innkeeper, is extremely gracious and goes out of her way to make your stay comfortable and memorable. She serves wine and cheese in the evening and truly great breakfasts, and there are all sorts of extra unexpected things (such as having a toothbrush for me when I forgot to bring mine).

The building, rooms and furnishings are beautiful. I stayed in a room with a steam shower. There is wireless internet access and a full cable TV package including On Demand. Anna has the largest library I've ever seen in a B&B, including a whole section of travel books. She worked in the book industry for more than 20 years.

The Fine Arts Museum is directly across the street. Great restaurants and shops are only a couple blocks away. Downtown is only 7 minutes away by car.

I thoroughly recommend this B&B confident that you'll love it. I'll be staying here on all my future trips to Richmond.
