“Rustic and peaceful”
Reviewed 17 August 2014

We stayed at Brentina for a week. We stayed in the house that's on one floor and in hindsight I wish I'd booked the house on 2 levels but that's just my preference. It was a bit dark and no nets over the windows so hard to keep windows open without flying visitors. The house had everything you would need for cooking and making coffee. It also has a washing machine on site. The bedding and house was very clean but you are in the middle of the country side so expect the odd spider!
I was not prepared for the amount of Mosquitos though so day 2 we all had a few bites! But after a visit to the super market we bought candles and sprays which helped a lot. The staff are wonderful very friendly and helpful. The little shop at reception is lovely. It sell wonderful bread, olive oil, pasta, juice, milk and the most amazing pasta sauces. Be prepared for a long dirt track to take you to your house but when you get there it's all worth it. My boys enjoyed the Ping pong table more than the pool!
Perfect stay if you want a rustic peaceful holiday.

We have stayed at Barbialla twice in the past year, staying in Le Trosce and Brentina. We have found the entire site to breathtakingly beautiful and incredibly peaceful, the houses are all perfectly clean, well equipped, spacious and authentic tuscan farmhouses. These are perfect if you enjoy getting away from it all for a self catering holiday.

We hired the whole site for our wedding at the end of May this year. Our wedding guests stayed for 5 days and we used Le Trosce to host the reception. This gave us the freedom to create the perfect tuscan wedding that we had envisaged, getting married in San Miniato then having the reception in a fantastic setting. All guests commented on how beautiful the site was and how relaxed they felt after settling in to Barbialla. Adults and children alike enjoyed exploring the farm, playing in the pools and tasting the fantastic local produce.

The best thing about Barbialla by far is the staff. Kyre and Ilaria were simply amazing. They supported us throughout our wedding planning process and nothing was too difficult or too much for them to help us with. Not only that, but they helped all 40 guests that were booking in on the same day. They are a font of local knowledge, know all of the restaurants in the area and provided excellent advice at all times (including the recommendation of Lucia our caterer!). I cannot speak highly enough of the exemplary service provided by the team at Barbialla.

We would recommend Barbialla to anyone who was hoping to have a wedding in Tuscany, Le Trosce made a simply amazing location to host our reception, with the living room large enough to seat 42 guests for a sit down meal and to use the Loggia for dancing late into the night. We will definitely be visiting again (and more times over the coming years)

Room Tip: Brentina Sud was perfect as a honeymoon suite!

We've just returned from a fantastic week at Barbialla Nuova. Our apartment was simple and pleasingly minimalist but had everything we needed. The location is perfect for exploring the beauty of Tuscany and the walks on the farm itself are great (but do note that when they are described as challenging on the map, they really are challenging!). Ivano, Kyre and Illaria could not have been more helpful and my wife enjoyed her bread making class. The olive oil and honey produced on the farm were delicious. For a peaceful and beautiful break away from the pressures of modern life Barbialla Nuova can't be faulted.

We are right now spending a long week end in fattoria barbialla nuova. idillic place to stay: great landscape and respected wildlife. I'couldn't ask for a better experience in the tuscan countryside.
Our Apartment is very simple but comfortable, clean and very well organized. My little 20 months daughter enjoys running in fields, feeding birds and discover the huge chianina cattle in stables. So much fun for kids that spend a lot of time in the city. Relaxing lying in a field covered with flowers as no price! Thanks so much to the very nice staff that suggests us every day how to live as better as possible this short but unforgettable moments!

Swear by this place. Have been with my family (2 kids 8 and 5) many times and our family loves it. If you are traveling with young children and want to stay in a beautiful rustic place without worry about breaking the china this is the place. We definitely felt taken care if here. I recommend Doderi Alto for the views. It's close to Lucca Florence and Pisa. And easy drive to a number of restaurants. The place has a number of easy hiking trails.

I understand this is a working farm not a hotel. Nevertheless, I don't think it is too much to expect a clean room, a working toilet, bedclothes without rips in them, light bulbs that work and running water. Sadly we got none of these things and left after just 1 of our scheduled 4 nights.

If you want the most basic, uncomfortable accommodation, this place is for you. For anybody else, do yourself a favour and avoid it.

Such a pity as the place is in the most beautiful location and could be wonderful with a bit more care and attention. For now, it is very poor accommodation at hotel prices.

Room Tip: Stayed at Doderi

We always feel terrible when a guest leaves Barbialla unhappy, as our primary job is to make sure that everyone has a lovely and restful vacation. Any mistake of ours that prevents this is truly our own failing.
We provide a rustic experience in genuine Tuscan farmhouses that are all at least a century old, keeping everything as simple and authentic as possible. To be fair, this may not be to everyone's liking. We realize that being authentic (refusing to use pesticides to diminish the insects, having tractors and cows in the fields, dirt roads that can create dust, gates and fences, simple houses made with natural materials and original countryside furniture) can be interpreted by some as basic or rough. We do try to accentuate the simplicity and originality of Barbialla on our website, but there will always be a few who see it as too basic or excessively un-modern.
Because of this we dedicate much time to preparing and caring for the houses. Throughout the winter we spend months in the apartments painting and cleaning and mending; during the season we make sure to have someone available 24 hours a day to resolve any small issue or question so as to improve our guests' holidays. And we are very clear about what we offer and what our setting is on our website and in any information sent to future guests.
We do this because we know that everyone's tastes and needs are different and we hope to communicate what Barbialla is before our guests arrive. It's extremely disappointing and hard to admit that one has chosen the wrong place for a holiday, perhaps not reading the website carefully or at all before booking. Our farm is not for everyone; but we work very hard to make it the absolute best place for some.
One burnt out lightbulb, a sheet with one half-centimeter tear, a working toilet whose button sticks - these are all problems that shouldn't occur. However, we are human, and mistakes do get made. It is very important to us, therefore, to point out that we would have been happy to resolve any one of these issues within minutes if we had been notified. We've chosen to run this agriturismo because we actually love interacting with people from all over the world and introducing them to the particularities of this region and Italy in general. So if we find that someone is unhappy, we do all we can to help. However we can't fix problems that we don't know about.
Lastly, it's truly unfortunate that these already unhappy guests happened to being staying on a day on which one of the pipes leading up to the house burst. We did have to turn off the water for two hours, however we were able to fix it immediately and have the water back on and running. These kind of things happen and when they do we can only do our best to resolve the issue as quickly as possible.

For those who want some days of silence. for us who are in love with nature and amazing organic food. fattoria barbiallia is the ultimate experience. I went there with family and friends 3 times in the last couple of years. Fattoria Barbialla is Tuscany at its best. First of all the scenario is outstanding. we enjoyed walking in the woods and organizing barbecue with "Chianina" meat. The best in the west!
I am still so enthusiastic about it because there are so few places where you can have such an experience. if you want the real Italian countryside then Barballa is your place. If you a re looking for 5 stars comfort maybe is not your choice but surely you can relax in the swimming pools and in front of the fireplace. the local farmers are unique characters and the concierge is straightforward, helpful and English speaking. The perfect location for family and friends long weekends or spring and summer quality time.

Room Tip: Trosce house is on top of a hill. it has large rooms and a small swimming pool . silence and enjoyme...
