“APARTMENT AMIDST UMBRIA'S ATTRACTIONS”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 24 August 2012

We stayed in the self-catering apartment for our eight nights at Casa Turrita - liked everything about this place and location - and highly recommend it for these reasons:

- The comforts of the bed, the sparkling clean bathroom with a washing machine, the layout of
the rooms, the easy chairs for reading, the well equipped kitchen, the hallway library, and
the windows offering good ventilation and lovely pastoral views;

- The flexibility for making our own meals and also having the choice of a prepared breakfast
(for a minimal charge).

- The breezy clothesline outside, the lawn chairs and tables, the abundance of potted flowers
and rose buses, and the surrounding ever-changing colors of the mountains and foothills;

- The lovely walks through neighboring olive groves and vineyards and into delightful
Montefalco (about two miles away);

- One day trip to Bevagna, Spello and Deruta; one to Spoleto's wine festival; one to revisit
Assisi, and another to the Marmone Falls and the Sibillini Mountains via Norcia, all well
worth the reasonable drives;

Susan's hospitality contributed so much to our wonderful experience in Umbria. She made great touring suggestions and reservations at her favorite restaurants and for a very interesting winery tour - and also could interpret Italian for us - an advantage of having an American host in Italy. If you like, she will share with you her insights about life in Italy. We enjoyed those chats while sipping the local passito sweet wine. Grazie, Susan, for all your assistance and treats, especially your fine company.

Elaine and Joe

Room Tip: Would book the good value apartment even if not intending to cook any meals there.

My husband and I spent two weeks in the apartment at Casa Turrita last year and we stopped for two nights there again this year on our way to the Rome airport and home. Again, the apartment was very clean and attractive. Since we were only there for two nights, we didn't take advantage of the fully equipped kitchen (Susan's two B&B rooms were already taken when we reserved). Breakfast was delightful under the tree each morning and on our last evening Susan invited all her guests to join her and two of her neighbors for dinner. The dinner was a delight and was a special memory of our trip.

Room Tip: I think there is a small refrigerator in each room so that you can have dinner on the patio, if you...

My husband and I spent a wonderful week in Susan's apartment. The apartment was very spacious and well equipped with beautiful views from every window. The apartment and B & B are located on the second floor and have a private entrance. The hallway is lined with bookcases full of interesting books. The property is well situated for day trips to all the beautiful hilltop villages in Umbria. Susan is a gracious hostess and her restaurant recommendations were perfect, we had some of the best meals in our 2 + weeks in Italy.

The wines of Montefalco brought us to Casa Turrita, and Susan's hospitality will bring us back. Her bed and breakfast is comfortable and clean with a separate entrance for guests. Nothing fancy here: just everything you need for a relaxing stay. Wifi is free, and we did have a TV in our room - but never touched it! She served us breakfast outside so we could enjoy the beautiful view. Her location is perfect: close enough to town but far enough away to feel like you're hidden in the countryside. She was happy to leave us be, and helpful when we needed guidance with restaurants and wineries close by. One of our better B&B experiences.

Casa Turrita made our stay in Umbria. It's a great location, atop a hill overlooking miles of hills and towns. The house is beautiful with very clean and comfortable rooms; the beds were a nice break from the very firm (hard) beds that we found elsewhere in Italy - they were actually comfortable! Susan, the proprietor, was flexible on when breakfast would be served and it was very nice to get such a healthful and tasty launch to what were very long days of visiting the towns and enjoying the cuisine. And that's the bonus. While never intrusive, Susan was able to respond to our questions and ideas with maps, directions and ideas of sites to see. It's clear she loves Umbria and has spent time getting to know it. An American, she speaks Italian fluently and was very helpful in setting up tours for us. If you love wine, make sure and visit the Tabarrini Cantina nearby.

My husband and I stayed at Casa Turrita in March 2012. It was the best B&B experience we have ever had. Susan is the perfect B&B hostess, who made every effort to help us explore Umbria and offered advice when we asked, but was never intrusive.

The website's driving directions were easy to follow and we drove to Casa Turrita with no problem. It is a lovely building set on a hillside surrounded by olive groves and lovely countryside. Susan showed us to our room, which was spacious and had a nice en suite bathroom. There is television with English news channel, plenty of sunlight, and the most comfortable beds we slept in on our Italian vacation. At night the room was dark - we slept so well here! There are also several guidebooks about Umbria and the area in the room, which were wonderful to skim.

Susan's breakfast was great, with fresh fruit, cereals, juices, yogurt, croissants, and more. Susan was so helpful at breakfast, when we asked for the best routes to drive and for advice on which towns to visit. She also recommended restaurants in many of the nearby towns, and all her recommendations were fantastic. We especially loved L'Alchemista in Montefalco on the main town square. It was one of the best meals of our trip.

If you are looking for a base of operation to explore Umbria, book a room at Casa Turrita. It is a wonderful place to stay and such a great value! I couldn't recommend it more highly.

If you like quaint, clean and the countryside, you will love Casa Turrita. My husband and I spent 5 nights at Susan Armstrong's home - a lovely stone farmhouse that was a treat to "come home" to. It is situated amongst olive trees and vineyards only a few kilometers from the medieval town of Montefalco. We spent the first night in a bedroom/bathroom and then 4 nights in the apartment. We loved the well equipped kitchen and the cozy sitting and dining area. The bedroom is spacious and the bed, very comfortable. The bathroom has a good sized shower and a washing machine. The apartment also has beautiful views over the countryside. Breakfasts were fresh and plentiful.

We were especially appreciative of Susan's help to plan our days. She is fluent in Italian and very connected to the community. The private tours of 2 small family run wineries and an olive oil mill that she organized were highlights of our time in Italy. There are many things to see and do within an hours drive but it is also a great place to just hang out and enjoy the immediate area, the wine and the town of Montefalco. A very memorable time!
