Owner description: Truffle hunting in the beautiful Umbrian hills, an unforgettable culinary experience, a day spent in the company of colorful locals, a stroll through some stunning countryside... The Wild Foods Gastronomical Adventure is a piece of Italy you will never forget. You spend a day immersed in authentic traditional Italian company, culture and cuisine. You hunt truffles, cook truffles, eat truffles, as well as get to experience an amazing part of Italy far away from the usual tourist trails. You also experience some traditional 'wild' cuisine, maybe wild boar stew, sauteed hare, or roast guinea fowl. It's great for foodies and wine-lovers, or for anyone just wanting to immerse themselves in the landscape, people and culture of Umbria.

This experience was simply fantastic. A New Zealand host with an Italian wife and in-laws, Australians on tour for 8 weeks and an American family and us, South Africans. What a day, what hosts and what company! Everything you read about this day is true, but much more. Having a freshly "hunted" truffle on your breakfast, complimented by locally made cheese and local bubbly in a setting from where you can see forever. That was followed by a lesson in pasta making from scratch( with wine), a visit to the cheese room(with wine) and then the highlight, a sit down lunch under a shady tree(with wine) . How does a 4 course meal consisting of home cooked Umbrian specialties sound?Well, it tasted divine and the day ended far too soon. This was simply a great experience! My husband and I booked this trip before leaving for Italy and we were so pleased that we did as it was the highlight of our 5 weeks in Italy. We were picked up from our accommodation in Montefalco and taken to the family home around 40 mins drive away. Fabulous day of truffle hunting, making pasta with nona, drinking wine and of course fabulous food in a friendly family environment. A must if you are going to Umbria
Thank you Mac and Francesca

My husband and I have been holidaying in Italy for eight weeks and undoubtedly this would have to be the highlight of the trip. The whole experience is unforgettable. The bonus was being collected by Mac from our base in Todi, which meant we were able to enjoy the generous wine on offer. The truffle hunting was great, followed by a breakfast picnic on the mountain with the most amazing views. Making pasta with Nonna another highlight and then sharing a luncheon banquet with the family. Mac is a true laid back New Zealander and was so patient answering all our questions. We will recommend this adventure to anyone coming to Umbria.

Our extended family of 10 spent the day with Mac, Francesca, and their family. We had an amazing truffle hunt that was followed by a picnic on a hillside overlooking the countryside. The picnic included fabulous truffled eggs! The beautiful day did not end there. We went back to the family's homes where we watched Nona make pasta. Our children played with Mac and Francesca's children then we ate a wonderful authentic Italian meal with the family. We felt like family! Everyone was so welcoming and excited to share their lives and experiences with us. We will definitely be back as soon as we can get there. This is an experience that should not be missed. After traveling to different parts of Italy for the last 9 years, our day with Mac, Francesca, and the family is at the top of our experiences. I would highly recommend spending at day experiencing Wild Foods. FABULOUS!!

What can I say that hasn't already been said? My husband and I and our 3 kids had a magical day with Mac and Francesca and their family high in Montefalco. Even though it was a bitterly cold day (thanks for the extra clothes Francesca!), the truffle hunt was great.. and the Prosecco, and food on the hillside and at out hosts' house even better. Our children fell in love instantly with the countryside and Mac and Francesca's two kids. They spent the day outside playing with them while we did all the good stuff- drink, talk, eat and laugh! The kids are still talking about "Dante's house"!
The food was fantastic and it was a true pleasure to have a wine and a chat with "the three wise men" (the rusty Italian came in handy!).
Thank you for a wonderful time Mac, Francesca and family - it was a true highlight of our 7 week European adventure.
If you're going to Umbria- you must do this!!
