“Agriturismo Camiano Piccolo”
Reviewed 6 August 2014

It is now more than 10 years that we have been going regularly to the Camiano Piccolo Agriturismo in Montefalco for a few days of rest, enjoyment and total relaxation in a superb environment. We return each year above all for the extraordinarily warm and personal welcome that the Fabrizi family, Piero, Giuseppe and Simona, give us. We go there because of the charm of this agriturismo whose origins go back to the 15th century but also for the modern comfort of its rooms, the quality of its cuisine the ingredients for which come from the vegetable garden and orchard on the premises and for the Umbrian dishes that are always on the menu and which change every day. And let's not forget the wonderful Montefalco Red and Sagrantino wine produced locally. It is a place of extraordinary beauty and tranquillity with views over the countryside and nearby hillside villages - it is not by chance that Montefalco is called the Balcony of Umbria. Finally the art cities of Assisi, Perugia, Spello, Spoleto - and Montefalco itself - are all within easy striking distance. In short, a stay at Camiano Piccolo is a memorable experience which we recommend to anyone who is looking for relax and enjoyment, including in the swimming pool, in a very special environment.

Giuseppe and his family's place is our favourite place to stay in Italy, recommended by a family member who lives in Montefalco we hold it in high regard. We spent four nights here, and after arriving and relaxing by the pool ( which is admittedly a little chilly!!) we chose to eat at Camiano Piccalo that night, we ate with fellow diners outside and the home cooked food was delicious, we started with local delicacies including my favourite courgette (zuccini) flowers, meats cheeses and lentils, then had chicken for myself and veal for my fiancé followed up by a tirimisu. With tow bottles of prosecco (celebrating!!) and side dishes it did prove quite expensive compared to the other restaurant selections in Montefalco, but the ambience and food was lovely! we stayed in one of the outhouses or cottages, and our room was clean and airy, with ensuite, and even had its own kitchen, where we could make lunch with produce from the supermarket just up the road, there was also outside seating. Giuseppe and his family are very kind and welcoming and I would highly recommend.

Room Tip: The cottages/outhouses are great

We recently spent 5 nights at this wonderful place. The location is great, overlooking the valley and mountains with a fabulous terrace fitted with tables, chairs and umbrellas. The food was bountiful and very tasty. We had very attentive service and no problems at all, the staff and family were very warm, and friendly.

We have stayed in many agritorismo's in Italy. My husband, myself and children. I was surprised to have experienced really unwelcoming service. We had to keep requesting simple things during meals like, " could we have more water please?" Also at the weekends end they tacked on more to the bill. The package we bought included water, wine and coffee in the price of the weekend with 2 meals per day and then they charged us again for all of that upon check out. This was the worst agritorismo we have experienced and the most expensive! There were so many other places we could have gone and got so much more. Even better location!
It had little to do, but what they did offer was a pool. It was ice cold!
We stayed with 4 other families and so we toured all of their rooms as well. The rooms layouts didn't seem to make sense, one worse than the other. Some were not clean and one of our friends had the hardware fly from the wall during a shower.
The Mosquitos were out of control there.
The wine was good but at least that to make up for the unfriendliness the family owners exuded.

We travel to Italy twice a year, and I stayed here for 3 days with my family and it was the worst agriturismo I have ever been! The room was very dirty, maybe it was swept but definetely not mopped before we checked in. The shower was moldy. The cheap swimming pool was full of mold and very cold water. The service was poor. The food was very average. We had the feeling that they just didn't appreciate having us there, and instead of being guests we were a burden. They didn't understand the business of being hospitable. The grounds, rooms, and over-all complex is very neglected with old furniture thrown there with no logic, let alone taste. And to top it all, at check out they added a "beverage" fee for water, coffee, and wine even though they were supposed to be included in the "mezza pensione" meal plan we had bought. I should have refused and called the police.
Don't commit to a room before seeing it, don't pay before arriving. You will be greatly disappointed!!!
There are many other better and cheaper places in the area!!!

We have stayed her now for the 3rd year in a row. It is a beautiful place to stay and a short uphill walk to the town center. I loved it to walk with my youngest daughter to the center in the morning to pick up a newspaper and walk back for breakfast. The owners are very friendly and you can ask them anything. If they can, they will make it happen. The rooms are a bit old and the cleanliness could be better. Rooms are being cleaned every morning and towels changed if you want, but the cleaning concentrates mainly to the bathroom and making up the beds. When you than look into the corners of the room, you can still see the spiderwebs and also under the furniture. That's why I rated very good instead of excellent.
The restaurant is good and if you book half board you can take your meal also at noon instead of the evening.Very helpfull if you want to visit a city by night and you don't have to return for dinner. The breakfast is very good for Italy and if you like you can also get eggs.
Montefalco is a very nice town with lots of activity in the evening. It is also good located to visit cities in the area: Assisi, Spello, Perugia, Spoleto, Todi, Orvieto, Cascata di marmore, Norcia, Visso, Castelluccio, Citta di castello, Casteglione del lago,...
Unfortunatelly after 3 years we have seen it all (several times) and it is time to explore different regions. But we will certainly come back here again in the future.
