We've enjoyed many evenings at Osteria del Bugiardo, their wine bar in Verona. Today we bicycled to Locanda del Bugiardo from our nearby agriturismo for lunch. Being off-season, there were only 8 people dining while we were there. One waiter took excellent care of us, and we enjoyed their tempura-style fried vegetables in a rose-wine batter, and amazing pasta with a ragu of red partridge. What this place really excels at is their beef. The filet in a wine sauce was fork-tender and loaded with flavor. The "mixed grill", of sliced sirloin, lamb chop and pork was a carnivore's delight. The atmosphere is casual and relaxed, with excellent view of the surrounding vineyards.
We had a bottle of sparking rose with our meal, and two glasses of their excellent Ripasso. The total for lunch was 150 Euros. Pricey? Absolutely! But the food was worth it, even if it's not an everyday place at these prices.
