“Pure Heaven, beautiful people, location.......”
Reviewed 10 December 2008

This place is beautiful in everyway possible, an ideal place for a wedding stay, wedding reception and a perfect place in order for your family and friends to relax before a huge event - your wedding....

If you have read any review, particularly one from earlier this year - please disregard the girls comments. This place is wonderful, Alessandro and her family are wonderful and made our stay and wedding reception 'out of this world'. All of our dreams came true and more were made. We had a wonderful wedding planner (Gloria Franco, of 'I Will' wedding in Verona and Lake Verona) and she worked wonderfully with Alessandro. The setting of this rural retreat is spectular, it is outside of Verona city centre but it is very easy to get a taxi or mini bus down into the city. You can also get to Lake Garda by taxi or if you feel confident hire a car and explore the surrounding areas.

The place and location is fabulous and myself and my husband cant wait to go back, and we know many of our family and friends who are going to go back to the Relais for another holiday.

If you are planning on having your wedding reception at the Relais please feel free to contact me via email, I would love to talk about the place, the family and especially our wedding planner - she was wonderful.

When you get married in Verona you do actually feel that you belong there, the city and the people are wonderful and I have never experienced that feeling before with a country. I so cant wait to go back and hope to go back next year.

Verona is the place of romance and your wedding will be perfect .....

We stayed at the castrum for 5 nights for a friends wedding, We had previously stayed in the centre of Verona and was looking forward to a more luxurious stay.

The first impressions of the venue itself were excellent. It had an amazing view over the valley and mountains, However I can say although our friends wedding was wonderful I found the entire experience at the Relais to be disappointing.

The room you are given seems to be very hit and miss, on the right side of the building the rooms are larger but are older and a little run down, while the rooms on the left are very plush and modern with sleek wooden floors, air con, fridge (did not work) even a hair dryer as seen in the photos. However we were given an older room which did not lock and consisted of a simple wardrobe and bed but no chairs to sit down. The air conditioning unit was the size of large fridge and could not be plugged in unless you removed the television. In short you had to choose between keeping cool and TV. The air con itself was very noisy and in order to use you had to place a large long tube out the window. This meant that insects including mosquitoes could get in to the room. If booking please insist on the modern block, also the rooms referred to as suites are in the older block and although have better bathrooms they seem to suffer from bad plumbing, i.e. toilets without a u bend and can be smelly.

I would advise getting a hire car at this venue as it is in the middle of nowhere and it is really cheap compared to the cost of taxi's to get to the Relais. To the centre of Verona from the Relais it cost 32 euros on average for two people this depends on time of day / how much luggage / number of people etc.

The main thing that upset me about our stay was the food and drink or lack of it. If you miss breakfast which was basic (cereal / bread (no toast)) you will not be able to get any, The local shop and bar open at 3.00 and sometimes depending on the day (Sunday) you will not be able to get any thing at all. The only restaurant is 15 minutes walk on the road no pavement but is cheap and the food is of reasonable quality. It does seem to sell out of things quite regularly for instance we could not get steak two nights in a row etc.

The actual place does not cater for large groups and there is very little in the way of furniture or in fact anything to do if the weather is bad, other than stay in your room. When we were there were over 20 people for the wedding but only basic furniture for the family. There is no pool only a hot tub usually full of kids.

The staff (family) although pleasant enough, was generally okay. We managed to order pizza through them as we were all starving and use their laptop but that was about it. We could not buy any drinks / food or obtain any drinks most of the time. The family would often go out for long periods of time locking the entire premise. It made us feel very isolated and unwanted.

I would recommend this place for a wedding venue only to stay one night and leave. Do not make the mistake of thinking this is a hotel it is simply a place to sleep.
