“Above any expectations”
Reviewed 15 April 2014

Little did we know we would have passed such a superb weekend break at the Topaz Hotel.

Check-in : We were welcomed upon check-in by a sweet and kind lady who made us feel welcome. After just a few minutes, the time to just sign a document, we were directed to our room.

Room : We were surprised to have been upgraded to a pool view room at no extra charge. The room was clean and tidy and all was functioal and in place. What we found was already beyond our expectations for the price we paid.

Restaurant : Here, my wife and I, were even more surprise. the warm welcome by the hostess at the entrance, the set-up of all the tables, the buffet display, the cleanliness etc. We were immediately directed to our table and a waiter asked us if we would like to order drinks, After choosing our usual wine, only a few minutes )or seconds) passed that we were presented with our choice. The gentleman serving us knew his job, knew how to open a bottle of wine and also pour it to be tasted (that's pretty rare in hotels). After having our sip of wine we were directed to the buffet ... here again ... big surprise ... a vast choice of well displayed antipasti, starters and main courses and deserts.

Food : Here we have reached the TOP ... both breakfast and dinner ... every single item seemed so delicately prepared and displayed. All food tasted so delicately good. It was impossible for us to taste all the items during our weekend break however we seem to have gone beyond our norm (our scales confimred this).

Pub : a warm and British old style pub with wooden decor and benches, TVs all around suitable for a hard core football fan (me). Prices are very decent, service is good and the atmosphere was pretty jolly with all the tourists coming from different countries.

To conclude, all I can is is that we will definately return to the Topaz for another weekend break and maybe come over with our kids in warmer months so they can enjoy the large pool and pool deck and indoor pool. For sure it will remain a weekend to remember and to recomend to all our realatives and friends..

Last but not least, the hotel seems to have been taken over by a new management (this is what we were told), so all I can say is a well done to this new management auguring them to keep up the high standards and quality we have been delivered with.

Chapeau to all and keep it up.

You will see us again for sure !

Room Tip: Booking a pool view room can be a plus but is not a must

The hotel is rated as 4 star but this rating was 50 years ago i think 2/3 star hotel no shampoo no conditiner and super old. We found so much better for the price. The food was good very good bufet and breakfast.

Your trip advisor comment is without name, days of stay , room number and date of stay, nor number of persons
As we took over the hotel and only opened on 28th march 2014, it is our interest to give the best to clients , as witnessed already by many happy clients.
We see that the hotel was given a poor rating because of no conditioner supplied in room , and would have supplied had it been brought to our notice, whilst in resort.
Withholding the name makes it so much more difficult to rectify.
the topaz management and team are there to give full value on the price charged.

So, firstly I would like to say I paid under £200 per person for flights and all inclusive in this hotel so for that reason , I would give it 5/5!!!

We went to Malta in December so it was reasonably quiet over there. The hotel did special deals for long stays (6 - 12 weeks) so the hotel was pretty full but with mainly elderly who were their just to escape the cold damp UK. This was not a problem but everything was pretty much geared up for them!! The entertainment was shocking but luckily, we went to Malta purely to visit as many places as we could in the week we were there.

Location wise, the hotel is perfect. It's an easy walk in to the centre and there is a bus stop almost right outside. We bought a weekly ticket for around £10 and we travelled everywhere by bus. It was very easy!!

The room was rubbish. We looked out of the window and were actually 2 feet below the outside pool area! Roms were tiny but comfortable. The air con didn't work and neither did the heating and as it was quite chilly at night, I did ask if they could rectify this. The hotel sent someone up straight away and the in hotel rep was excellent. He kept checking we were OK and if there was anything he could do to make our stay better...All the staff there were excellent, the only few who were rude were British which was a shame!

The food was OK actually. A good selection at breakfast. Just watch the pensioners stealing as much food at breakfast as they can tucking it into their bags to have for lunch as the majority weren't on all inclusive so were only entitled to breakfast and dinner, however this didn't phase them. I saw one take about 15 slices of bread and a whole mug full of tea bags!! This behaviour kind of ruined the way the hotel was run. To get a drink you had to go to the till and show them your key card with room number on it, then your all inclusive band. They then rung the drink through the till (even though it was free!!) you then had to leave the till area, with the receipt and order your drink. It was like this at the main bar and the pool bar!!

Lunch and dinner was different everyday, my husband is quite fussy but he enjoyed the food here! There was always chips and a pasta station. They had a roast of some kind every day and things like stews. The pastries were amazing...We found out since that the Maltese love their cakes and pastries and they do them very well!!

All in all a good trip and perfect stay for the money we paid. I have seen packages to this hotel at £450 plus during the summer...If I had paid that amount I would have been seriously unhappy but as such, I didn't and the hotel was perfect for what we wanted it for.

Malta is a fantastic place and am looking forward to returning in the near future.

Dear ejhookway83

many thanks for your lengthy review which you submitted. We are sorry to hear that you were not satisfied with your stay which according to your review was in December 2013, 5 months ago. At this time the hotel was closed as the previous management closed the hotel end October 2013. We as new operators of the hotel re-opened the hotel on March 28th 2014 so this review surely is not relating to the Topaz Hotel under our management.
Notwithstanding this we would be delighted to have you see the current state of the hotel which, whilst closed, we have given a good facelift as you may see from the many recent positive reviews we have received from customers who stayed at the Hotel.

Spending a long weekend with a group of friends at the Topaz was an excellent experience. It is situated in a prime touristic area and very close to all amenities. In fact one can go around by walk to the main area and the seaside.
The Hotel has a new management which has upgraded all the facilities. The staff is very friendly and helpful which made our stay more pleasant. The room was spacious and cleaned every day. An LED flat screen television is installed, with a good selection of local and international channels. It has a large pool with a spacious pool area - ideal for sun bathing.
The buffet breakfast and dinner was exceptional with a good selection of food and in abundance. In the evening, free entertainment was provided.
I do recommend this Hotel to those who are looking for a nice place worthy of the price paid.

As soon as we walked in, we were greeted with a fantastic reception and lobby, including friendly staff. They had nicely sized rooms, lots of facilities, including a very large swimming pool and surroundings. We had great nights filled with entertainment, and the food was excellent.

I would reccoment it to anybody.
