“Not a four star as I know one”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 3 July 2014

At first impression this hotel seemed fine ,reception area pleasant ,then the problems started. Not enough staff at check in then had to hang around to get into room. We had asked for a sea view room but were given a courtyard room, a misnomer if ever there was one. The courtyard was the size of a tennis court and surrounded on four sides by eight stories of rooms . The balconies AKA ledges, barely room for two plastic chairs, all faced each other and we looked on the delights of guests washing hanging a few feet away . I do not go on holiday to look at people's knickers . One guest described it as f.......... Beirut . Harsh but he had a point. The rooms were in need of a lick of paint but the beds were comfortable unlike the pillows. The restaurant was very closely packed hardly any room between tables but the food was passable, no pun intended. The pool area was fine although the pool was closed at 5 . Evening entertainment were various musicians who were excellent this took place in the pool area and locals came from various dance schools so we had a mini Strictly each evening with dancing for guests as well. Thomas Cook sold the hotel to me as 4 star it isn't . If you decide to stay there make sure you book a full sea view unless you like laundry

Room Tip: Full sea view ,part sea view is mostly road . And you need to be on a high floor

From arrival at airport to arrival at hotel service has been first class. Hotel is a bit tired but apparently a refurb is planned. This however in no way impeded our comfort. Room was comfortable, clean and afforded all facilities required. Sea view room worth the extra. Food selection very good albeit hot courses a bit tepid. Staff always attentive, pleasant and willing to help. We hAve certain had value for our money and enjoyed an excellent trip staying here in the Qwara palace. Local bus service great for getting round the island tho can be a bit busy with standing room only.

This is certainly NOT a Palace, nor is it 4 star. Look more towards 2 or 3 at best.

We are a couple in our late 50s who have just returned from 2 weeks at this hotel, and chose this hotel for it's location which is excellent.

There is only one good thing to say - housekeeping [ and there are many of them ] work tirelessly to keep this hotel clean.

So here come the negatives...........

POOR QUALITY FOOD. The salad looks as if it was prepared two days earlier and left out at room temperature. The ham / cold beef is awful. Over cooked, tasteless dinners that have sat in the heaters, unless you are there when the doors open for the first run of food. Certain that the chefs don't sample taste as they cook. Waiters taking full plates away with no comment to the guest and I suspect no comment to the kitchen either.

We had enough after 4 days and from then on we ate out.

EVENING ENTERTAINMENT is a joke. Unless of course you are a Maltese local who wants to ballroom dance the night away. They fill the dance floor on many nights and the paying guests - I repeat paying guests, sit there bored stiff watching these dancers who are convinced they are on "Strictly". Can only guess that the Management & Directors choose the entertainers to keep the locals happy. Fair to say however, that some of the guests did manage to get on the dance floor, and we were happy to see that. The Maltese locals seemed to be a bit miffed that they could not have the dance floor to themselves. We are not ballroom dancers, and there really was nothing else for 7 nights a week.

SUN BEDS. Yes you can get one if you are quick ! Towels are on before dawn. Spent a good 20 minutes some days trying to find beds amongst those allocated with just a towel on and nobody then sits on these for hours. Management should get involved in stopping this.

SUN BED MATRESSES at a charge of 1 Euro per day. We've NEVER stayed in any hotel that charged for the plastic matress. You work it out approximately 100 beds per day x 365 days trading per year. Nice profit on beds that would have paid for themselves within a week.

WiFi - None unless you pay 5 Euros for 3 hours.

BEDROOMS / BATHROOM. As said before housekeeping do a great job. Standard size fridge in our room, but looks as if it has never been defrosted, so did not work efficiently. Bathroom really small so if you are a larger person then there really is no room to move.

SAFE.....Get your wallet out again.

BEDROOM TEA / COFFEE FACILITES. There is none except for a kettle and 2 mugs. No tea/coffee/sugar/little milks provided. Not even a teaspoon in site. Four Star remember ?

ALL INCLUSIVE comes with many rules & regulations, so be warned. It's not all it's cracked up to be. Very little choice in both snacks and drinks and wished we had gone "cash only". The hours for this are between 11 a.m. and 11 p.m. only.

POOL AREA. Sorry the sun is shining, it's hot but you've got to move whether you want to or not at 4.30 p.m. as the sunbeds are removed and the cleaners are in hosing the area down.

We will not return.

My wife and I have just returned from a week at the Qawra Palace hotel in the lovely Island of Malta. The food at this hotel is excellent, in fact the best we have experienced in an all inclusive holiday. The chambermaids and bar staff along with the waiters were all very friendly. However the same could not be said of the restaurant management staff or the staff on reception desk staff. They were abrupt and arrogant to the point of rudeness. The hotel itself is tired and in need of a complete refurb. The bathroom was the smallest I have ever experienced in any hotel anywhere in the world!! What a shame that those who should be leading by example are in fact the week link in the chain!!

Stayed at this hotel for a week between the 24th June and the 1st July, only got back home today. Food was amazing, staff very welcoming also, I would like to take this opportunity to thank Paul and David from the restaurant who were great and looked after us. All facilities excellent, nothing that I can complain about whatsoever. I hope to be going back to Malta soon and look forward to visiting the Qawra Palace Hotel again in the future.

10/10!
