“Enjoyed the stay”

We enjoyed our stay, after reading some reviews we were worried. Our first room 003,Awful,but we were given a much better room when we asked,1041,overlooks the outdoor pools, and has a large terrace,It is nice and roomy, with all the basics.(like a cuppa, then take a kettle). The receptionists are lovely, ask them anything and they do their utmost to help,Sandra and Monica especially helpful. The restaurant lovely.and a good variety of meal options for breakfast and evening meal,And the staff are great, their interaction with customers wonderful. There is entertainment each evening, which suits locals as well as tourists, this gives you a chance to chat with some lovely people. There is ongoing work to upgrade the Hotel but it is not intrusive.Oh yes there is a lovely indoor pool with a whirlpool, which costs 2 euros per person for 15 minutes, and a massage parlour, and gymnasium. All in all we had a thoroughly good time,

We have just returned from a week stay at the San Pawl Hotel, Malta.
We were completely put off by some of the previous reviews, but we had already booked so there was little we could do.

When we arrived, i was shocked that this place got bad reviews! The hotel was lovely, the rooms were big with plenty of room, and we had a balcony with a pool view. Even the rooms our friends had were really lovely.
There was entertainment every night by the pool bar. the food was great......plenty of choice

The staff were so friendly and helpful and really couldn't do enough for you, especially the restaurant staff.

We made some great friends here which made this holiday very special.

We would definately stay here again.....we all had a fantastic time!

We are a Spanish young couple who has just got home from this hotel. First of all we want to say that after having read these reviews we were a little bit worried with what we would find when we got there, but it turned out to be much better than what we had expected. We arrived at 5am and the recepcionist was kind and helpful. The next day we were positively surprised by the great variety of breakfast and dinner choice, food was ok and it was not really repeated (although you get different types of pasta every day) during the 10 days we were there. Our room overlooked the pool area so it was nice, the room itself was small and we got the ceiling fan working non-stop for the whole stay, the bathroom needed a bit of renewal though.

The outdoors pool is deep and you cannot really reach the floor but it is ok since you can always remain sitted on the pool stairs. The water in it is warm not like the water in the indoors pool which is pretty cold, in there, there is also a jacuzzi and a sauna but you need to pay to use them. There is also a massage service worth 40euro located in the indoors pool area.

We found the staff(most of it) nice and helpful, mainly our "gracias" restaurant member and the English woman at reception.

The evening shows were pretty much repetitive being nearly the same thing all over again but carried out by different people. One surprising thing for us was the fact that many songs were danced by English people resembling a nice rehearsed choreography, where did they learn it??

Overall, the San Pawl hotel, which is by the way located at a short walking distance from the Buggiba sea walk (full of shops and restaurants), is a lovely little hotel and really value for money.

Paid £600 pounds for two rooms for 10 days. The hotel was very nice for the price we paid. The rooms (122+118) were very clean, cool ( fan in room)and comfortable . The cleaner was excellent and gave me spray for mosquitos not that we had or noticed any. The people on desk seemed a bit rude, but when you ask for something they were very good.My daughters 10+8 had a great time. Indoor pool was a godsend as it was very hot. The beach is very close by and a very nice cafe 'the pepperpot' close to hotel was great for lunch. The breakfast was fine for what we paid and a reasonable selection for a three star hotel.
The hotel does need updating but the rooms were spotless and service was excellent. I would reccommend the hotel if you get it at a reasonable price. You pay for what you get and i think that some people forget the building standards in some of these countries are not the same as ours in UK. I felt safe and secure in this hotel and would use it again if i returned tro Malta. Buses were cheap and huge selection of restaurants in Buggiba, a short but lovely walk away. Had a great time and couldn't fault this hotel for price paid.

karen and mick from leicester
we stopped at the san pawl for 2wks from 8th july the rooms are very basics but it was clean we had maid service and fresh towels everyday. we thought the food was good plenty of choice both at breakfast and evening meal, the entertainment was ok but what you see one week is repeated the next, the pool was clean but very deep 2.5m so you really had to be careful if you had small children there is however a small childs pool but they could get easy acess to main pool. when it became unbearably hot we went in the indoor pool which was cold but very welcoming, there is a well equipped gym also. the san pawl is centrally located so plenty of bars to visit within a ten minute walk. the staff are nice however there was one elderly receptionist who was quite abrupt and i recommend she go on a customer care course. overal the holiday was value for money ,rooms just need to be tidied up.

Our 6th visit to Malta over a ten year period and our 4th stay at San Pawl, Once again we thoroughly enjoyed ourselves, our room (2066) was clean and tidy with a new tiled floor and good fixtures plus large balcony. On arrival we were greeted by Monica and Sandra as old friends. We found the food at both breakfast and dinner to be of the usual quality and have no complaints at all, all the staff were fine especially Phillip and Kirsten. The outside and inside bars were run efficiently the only time we had to queue was on the Saturday night when a lot of Maltese families came to the Hotel to enjoy the entertainment and pizzaria, but as we had been before we new what to expect. Thanks to Scott one of the barmen for livening up the quiet nights and always willing to have a and laugh and joke with us. Overall we were satisfied with our holiday and being a Yorkshire couple we were more than happy with what we payed and will definitely be going again.

We booked this hotel through a travel agent but after reading some of the reviews we were worried we had made a mistake - we were wrong!

We arrived at 3 in the morning, where an english lady greeted us, explained how things worked in the hotel and where our rooms were. Beware the lift - it can only take 3 people at a time (or 1 person and a suitcase!!) We had a slightly smaller room than the other members of my family in another room, not that it mattered as you don't spend all your time in the room!! The bathroom was quite small, and sometimes the drains smelt funny (i guess due to their drainage system not being like England's!). We had a twin room but you could push the beds together or put the bedside table in between them so every one could be happy. We chose not to pay for air conditioning as it was 15 Euros a day, but the rooms come with ceiling fans that you can leave on all night (even though they make a bit of noise!).

Our room overlooked the entrance and onto a road so we got a lot of noise from the cars on the road (the Maltese like to use their horns at all times of the day!) so I would recommend a room over the pool if you can get one! We had a small balcony with 2 chairs and no table - my family next door had a table so must have been just us!! The maid came every day and left clean towels, nice touch :-)

The restaurant manager was a laugh - funny sense of humour but once your used to it he's fine! Our tour rep, Doris, was excellent, and most of the waiters/waitresses in the restaurant were helpful. There was a variety of food every night, even things I eat and I'm fussy! Yes it got repeated some nights but we were there 2 weeks so its to be expected. They do ice cream for pudding but you have to ask for it, we didn't know this until the last few days.

There are two pools, one shallow one for kids and another deep pool for adults, however at weekends the pool gets overrun with locals coming to use it so get your towels down quick in the morning! (But get a lounger behind the ones next to the pool - the kids tend to jump in and make a splash). The locals take over the bar area on a Saturday night, so its best to make other plans!
The inside pool is nice - very cold and in need of a clean but it makes a change from being in the sun all day, the gym needs a lot of work as it is very run down.

Overall, the San Pawl hotel is a nice hotel but could do with being refurbished in certain areas - but it is a 3* hotel and you get what you pay for - why expect luxury when you haven't paid a huge amount to stay there? Malta is a lovely country and I can't wait to go back again.

  • Liked — Good location, good food and friendly staff
  • Disliked — Not much - the hotel is a bit tired and could be refurbished in some areas
