I had my wedding reception at this hotel and i have to say the hotel and its staff are very good!
Overall this hotel is in an excellent location just a minutes walk from the bus terminal where you can get a bus to anywhere on the island. The hotel is very clean, the staff are courteous, the rooms are spacious and the food is very good.
The only thing that lets it down is the lack of entertainment..the hotel has a lovely irish pub attached that sometimes hosts karaoke etc but this isnt very well advertised within the hotel and is not on often enough.
Overall I would definatly reccoment this hotel! 26 of my family and friends stayed at this hotel for my wedding and none of us had any complaints!

What a shame and a difference from my stay in March, the hotel room was situated overlooking the service area (basement) great if you like looking at a whitewashed wall and lost items that had fallen down from the rooms above, and although the hotel as usual is exemplary and the staff were very proffesional,I had the feeling that they were a little bit unconcerned with problems in the end I looked up a friend I`d made on the staff back in March and she attempted to change the room for me but it was too late and All rooms were fully booked for my stay.
Dont let this review put you off staying here though the facilities and amenities at the hotel are great and it`s location is fantastic for exploring the island by bus you are 2 minutes walk from the bus station although you wouldnt know it is worth while staying here if you can get booked up !

We have stayed in this hotel before and enjoyed ourselves, this time was no exception, but I do however have some critisim. The hotel is in dire need of an upgrade, the roof top pool is a gross disappointment, broken tiles and sunbeds. On this occasion we decided to go all inclusive (big mistake), the Santana have a diffrent definition of A/I than any other hotel I have stayed in. They have a much more rigid agenda e.g no snacks, no bottled water, no packed lunch if you are going out for the day,no expresso coffee, no cappucino only 1/2 cariffe of wine with your meal and you never get it chilled, but if you are charging it to your room out comes the coolers and extra attention. I think the management need reminding that all inclusive customers are not second class, in fact there is no chance of us absconding without paying because we have paid in advance, I suppose when they have your money they don't have to keep you happy.
The standard room was small but kept clean, the maid was there daily and did a very good job, the bar staff were good and often embarressed when they had to tell you about the A/L restrictions, clearly they are used to people complaining about them. With all that said I will return to Malta although not to the Santana, and I would advise anyone going definatley not to go A/I.

We chose the Santana having read reviews on this site - booking through a package deal with Direct Holidays. We were some of the youngest on our flight which we were cautious about and were next to last to be dropped off the coach so managed to get a good look at other places on our way into Qawra (pronounced "Awwra")

First impressions : Santana has a really nice spacious lobby, with air conditioning and lots of sofas , a large reception area with attentive professional staff and our check in was carried out speedily , room safe costs 35(Malta)cents a day. We were given a card to enable us to get our key and charge things to the room and also the TV remote (also used for pay TV but as long as you remember NOT to press those buttons you will not be charged!)
Our room was a 'Standard' and was situated on the 5th floor with a balcony and (distant) sea view : memories of Basil Fawlty "... the sea...it's over there between the land and the sky...." sprang to mind (see photo) The room was small but clean and had a double bed and small bathroom with bath. A mini-bar is available at extra cost. There was also a ceiling fan and air conditioning (free) .

General areas were clean and comfortable , the Reading room and library is lovely as is the basement pool and spa. The rooftop pool and sundeck are a real suntrap but the pool bar was only open one day while we were there. The breakfast room / restaurant is quite dark and you have to pick your times for eating breakfast to miss the queues. There is a wide choice of cereals/ breads/ cheese/ cold meats and cooked ("English") breakfast . The Tea and Coffee is abysmal - I resorted to having hot water with lemon then going to the hotel coffee shop for a 'proper' cup of tea.

The staff are hardworking and helpful with any queries, and any requests are dealth with promptly- rooms are cleaned every day and bed linens changed at residents request : you leave them on the floor , and also the same goes for bathroom towels.
Santana is situated opposite a car park and many buildings in the process of being built - one of our fellow guests likened it to Beirut - and yes we have stayed in prettier places, but the area was quiet and safe and quite flat for the hoardes of elderly hobbling about with sticks and getting around using mobility scooters (these can be hired on Tourist Street, Qawra !!!) The locality is teeming with British pubs offering John Smiths beers and Sunday Roast which is not particularly what we went to Malta for so I have to admit we spent little time in our own resort.
As has been said the Bus Terminus is handily close by and for 50Cents you can travel the length and breadth of the island.

The resort of Bugibba / Qawra / St Pauls is basically that - a resort catering for holidaymakers who want everything laid on - if you want to see the real Malta you have to get out and about and see the fishing villages to the South, Valetta, Mdina and Rabat and Mellieha. Go to Gozo if you fancy it and experience the culture and friendliness of the locals.

I stayed at Hotel Santana in 2004. I was dissapointed there was no entertainment hall/dance floor for hotel guests, and instead a narrow pub which lacked atmosphere and was often empty. Because of this, the hotel appeared empty as all the guests would have to go elsewhere to find entertainment.... Often a hotel near to the Santana.

The plus side... There was a small bar/internet cafe on the same level as reception which did stay open for guests who where arriving early hours of the morning which was thoughful. I remember my family and I had a bite to eat and a drink before heading up to our rooms to settle for the night.

The hotel bedrooms where extremely clean and very comfy. I was impressed that all bedrooms where carpeted taking away the noise you often get in hotels. The hotel offered a higher standard in their bedrooms than that of other 4 star hotels I have stayed in so, very impressed by their efforts.

The dining room was pleasant, food very tasty and of a high standard. My family and I hired a car which was brought to the hotel. There was a car park to the front of the hotel which offered ample parking. My family and I very much enjoyed sight seeing in Malta, there was plenty to see and do and was always given a very warm welcome by all.

Just returned from 7 days in Malta at the Santana Hotel. Had a brilliant time. Weather was lovely all week. The santana may not be the most luxurious hotel in Quawra but its situated around the corner from the bus station and you can jump on a bus to anywhere on the island. The fact that you are boarding the bus at the terminus means you are almost always guaranteed a seat where as others trying to board at other stops are fequently hanging on for dear life or the bus doesnt stop as its full. The food was good. The staff so friendly. I travelled with my mum for a girlie week and its our first time in Malta. Im about to book to go back next year with my hubby . If you are looking for the best Cappachino you can buy you must try Tonys on the front next
door to McDonalds. Overall great hotel ideally situated, beautiful island. Me and Mum are truly hooked.
