First of all this hotel is good value for money.Maybe needs a lick of paint here and there but facilities are good(two pools) and the hotel is well situated. Front of house staff friendly and helpfull. The bad news is we had problems with rampaging students for the first two nights and lucky for us they left on the third day but had been in the hotel for a month!. The hotel staff spoke to their tutors ,but as they were in a different part of the hotel they were not bothered.Being kept awake until 04:00 in the morning is no joke.

Room Tip: keep away from the side of the hotel bottles/bins were emptied at least twice in a week in the middl...

Although the hotel could be a little cleaner at times, and the food wasn't really up to much (nothing much for the kids to eat and it was boring having the same thing infront of you every day), we enjoyed our stay. The staff were really friendly and helpful. We even got some tourist information from them. Malta is such a beautiful country and so much to see, a hotel is just somewhere to put your head down at night but if you want great value for money and a friendly service we would recommend staying here.

Our stay in the Santana began with a warm and friendly greeting from the receptionist, Martin. A friendly guy who spoke excellent English and was informative. The room was situated at the back of the hotel, with a view of only other balconies and waste ground. The air-con worked and the fan was good. The room was very dark and by the Tuesday there was a distinct smell of the drains, which we reported to the hotel. It took the maintenance man 3 hrs to arrive and asked what was the problem with the phone, and a maid had knocked earlier with extra towels for some reason.
The man came into the room and said he would check the ventilation and never returned. Upon our return to the hotel later that night, Martin was on duty and we explained the problem and he said he would have it sorted urgently, I told him the smell was coming from the plughole in the bath. Whilst we were out the following day, they must have been in our room as, the plug had been put in the hole, and the smell had diminished, but not totally, so for the rest of the stay we just made sure we put the plug in the hole.
We were B&B but we only had the breakfast on 2 occasions as it was nothing special, smoked sausage, smoked bacon hard fried eggs and hard beans, The cereal was hard as well, so we ate out. Would I return? Probably yes, apart from those 2 problems, we found it to be a clean average priced hotel, with ample places to eat and drink outside of the hotel. The out door pool is on the roof, with plenty of free loungers and a small snack/drinks bar.
You can order full meals from the snack bar, which we tried and found to be very nice, plentiful and not very expensive.

Room Tip: Avoid 346, if you like the light.

We stayed here in Sept. which means, in Malta, we needed air conditioning - and there was barely any at all! We complained, tried another room and finally they told us the whole system is on a timer, which only begins at nine in the evening - too late by then of course. Basically, it was too warm to return to the hotel in the middle of the day so we just kept busy - and that was fine. Luckily, there was a ceiling fan - and we slpt with that on. We soon realized that the entire island tries to conserve energy wherever they can - and this means turning the air conditioning off at every available opportunity. I read in other posts that the room was a bit outdated, but really, this did not bother us. Our room, on the first floor was huge and so was the bathroom. (The other room we looked at, on the 2nd floor, hoping to get air conditioning was not so big). We brought our own towels for the beach, so they did not leave us clean ones - the solution, throw a few on the floor and they will leave you clean ones - just so you do not have to be covered in sand. The indoor pool on the first floor was great - even when full of Italian school kids. Breakfast was great! The hotel was clean. The people who worked in the hotel were friendly, polite and helpful. There were lots of older Brits at this hotel - who I am sure appreciated the baked beans and bacon at breakfast. The hotel is in a very central location - a short walk to the bus station, a mini-market right next store and a good cafe - Central Perk, where you can watch TV (mostly sports) and eat relatively inexpensively - good, simple food. The hotel TV selection was VERY limited - some news and that is about all. When we checked out, they tried to tell us we watched a movie on Pay TV - we did not and after insisting, they did not charge us for what we did not watch! There is a travel agent in the hotel, who was very nice, but if you walk down the street, to Tracey's Cabin or around the corner, you can get the same trips for cheaper. The double decker bus around the island leaves from the door of the hotel and returns you to the door - nice! I did not go to the pool on the roof but the person I was with spent a great deal of time there and enjoyed it. There really is no good beach nearby - we had to go to Melieha. The real disaster of the whole trip was the "new" bus system in Malta, whichis understaffed, overcrowded and generally inefficient!

This is our third stay at this hotel. We asked for a superior room on floor 3 or above with views to the front - we got more than we expected! Not only a balcony to the front, but our own terrace with sunbeds.

Rooms are cleaned daily and superior rooms are spacious and have tea/coffee facilities. Aircon and fan worked well and were a must in the August heat.

Breakfast was great - good choice and good quality food. We also ate a few times in the evening, and whilst there is not a huge choice what was on offer was cooked well and good quality.

All the staff are friendly and keen to help. The hotel is also in a great location - not far from the front or the bus station for getting around. All in all for what we paid I feel this is a great value hotel, we have stayed in many hotels in this area, most more expensive, but this delivers a good service, good food and rooms.

We plan to go back again in October and will not hesitate to book this hotel.

Having stayed at this hotel on numerous occasions i know what to expect. I would always say the rooms are clean however there are definitely better ones than others as they can vary quite a bit in size. Breakfast is ok nothing special or horrible. There is enough choice to keep you entertained for a week.
Pool is a roof top pool which is quite small and can get crowded if there are a few kids in there! Pool side bar snacks are quite reasonable and good quality however drinks can be expensive.
The location is also good for access around Qawra, Bugibba and St Pauls Bay if you don't want to go far however i would recommend a jeep rental to be able to explore the isalnd yourself.
Some members of staff are more welcoming than others also beware of a room change fee of 10 euro's. (we had to argue this with the manager as we wanted to change cause we were not happy with our initial rooms)

all in all Santana is a good clean hotel but don't expect the ritz

Room Tip: choose rooms either at the side of the hotel they are generally larger or try and get a cheap upgrad...

We stayed at the Santana on our first ever trip to Malta in August 2011. The Hotel is a medium size property in a reasonable location, about 10 minutes walk from the sea and 10 or so minutes from the centre of Bugibba, so you can find plenty to do not too far from the hotel. There is not much going on in the hotel itself.

A major advantage with this hotel is the large free public car park right outside the front, so if you are renting a car from the airport, you can drive straight to the hotel without fear of not finding a parking space.
Our room,517, was on the front of the Hotel and we later found out that the maid considered this was the second hottest room in the hotel. It was quite a nice room, bigger than most with balconies on two sides. The room was quite well furnished but the hairdryer and TV were a bit on the old fasioned side.
The disadvantage of balocnies and patio windows on two sides is that heat from the sun hits your room from sunrise to sunset. Malta can be very hot in July and August.
Our first impression of the room was favorable except for the temperature which not far short of a sauna. You have to put your key fob into the wall to make the electricity and the air conditioning work. After about half an hour the air conditioning was doing nothing at all to overcome the heat which was 33 degrees C outside so we asked if we could view other rooms. They showed us some rooms which were on the back of the hotel which gets less sun but they smelled of cigarette smoke and although slightly cooler, they were also smaller. Smell and size caused us to opt to stay in 517. The bathroom was clean but just a little dated and although adequate, what you would in a 3 star hotel. (Santana is described as 4*)
Patio furniture on the balcony was also past its best but the only time it was cool enough to use the balcony would be after dark. Rooms on the front of the hotel are reasonably quiet.

The only real complaint I would have about this hotel is in relation to the air conditioning which is not at all adequate, to the point where you would question whether it works at all, except to recirculate air of the same temperature around the room. I resorted to going to a local shop and buying some baking foil which I put on the outside of the windows to reflect the suns rays and this did have a significant effect in cooling room 517. By taking extraordinary measures such as this and ensuring the bathroom door was kept closed at night we were able to aclaimatise to the room temparature and survive well enough to sleep. A tip to managment may be to fit all the front windows with reflective film to try and reduce the effect of sun heating rooms.

Unlike our room, the hotel lobby and restaurant were comfortably air conditioned. We took the half board option and I have to say that the standard of food was quite good, both at breakfast and for the evening meals. There was always a reasonable choice and I found something to my liking every evening. Food was hot and the buffet kept replenished. Staff in the restaurant were friendly and helpful and the restaurant itself had a pleasant enough atomosphere.

Other facilities. This hotel has a pool which is located on the roof. It is small and oblong shaped but OK if you want a quick swim or cool down but I could not spend a lot of my holiday time sitting around this particular pool. There are sun loungers if you want to use them. I would say the pool is OK if it is being used by sensible adults, and not too many of them at the same time. I did not try the fitness or other facilities which the hotel does offer.

Overall, this hotel is pleasant enough for a weeks stay in Malta, It is not hyper luxury but comfortable enough, clean and tidy with reasonbly good food. It has some faults (air con)and probably 15 years ago it was a nice hotel which could live up to 4 star status but things have moved on a little and I would class it as a 3 star. We have stayed in some very nice hotels and although Santana has some faults, I would be prepared to stay here again.

Room Tip: Rooms at the front of the hotel are extremely hot and air con is not good. Front rooms are relativel...
