Okay Hotel first
After reading bad reveiws I was surprised about this hotel. The food was great.- with the pool bar offering lighter snacks such as sanwiches, toasties, burgers, hotdogs, salads, tuna rolls and nuggets. Dinner time had a great selection of salads, pastas, cold meat, roast meats, meat dishes (including cottage pies, chicken casserole, etc) and choice of veg and potatoes- and of course fresh soup and rolls. (btw the sauceages are proper sauceages in the morning). Indoor pool was closed during our stay, and the outside pools were quite small- which wasnt a problem because although there were plenty of guests - not everyone availed of the pool. Staff at hotel are very friendly and helpful. Hotel is extremely clean and well looked after. Its a quiet area, but close to local bars. The only 2 faults I would have with the hotel- is that during our time they allowed a large group of french teenagers to stay and although most of the time they were at trips- when they returned there were 3 days were they took over the pool and children and swimmers old and young had to leave the pool area. The pool is simply not large enough for these groups to stay, and not in keeping with the hotels image. Also there are few toilets within the complex... however that said.. strangely there was never really a queue?! Also entertainment a bit poor a few of the nights- however the 80s night was great fun, and the professional dancers were amazing.

The Area..
Qawra is a quiet area with friendly local bars. It is within a few minutes walk from Bugibba, which is busier. There are a few stray cats and tiny lizards about when you go for walks and a few very small underdeveloped plots of land with sand and weeds growing. We ate in the 'Plum Tree' and the Cantonese restaurant- both of which were relaxing, with great staff and the food was fantastic. 'The PlumTree' was very reasonable for the high quality of food and service- and unlike normal restaurants they offered 'smaller' portions for the kids instead of normal set menus. Qawra is quieter, and I would advise hiring a car- which is relatively cheap- starting from just 50 euros for 3 days! (shop around) and there is SO SO much to see in this little island. I cant stress enough that you must visit Mdina and Rabat- enriched with history and culture- kids loved the Mdina Dungeons. If you do visit Mdina there is a South African cafe just outside the gate and across the car park- it is great for lunch and they specialised in their meat. Its inexpensive too. We had the chicken fillet burgers, which were delicious. Another must-see were the Mgarr shelter (or any of the underground air raid shelters)- eerie. Also if your more into relaxing, why not try a boat trip to Gozo, and/ or Comino- they stop off several time and allow you to swim in sea, and take you by speed boat into the caves- a great day for swimmers and sun-lovers. We went in August time and there were lots of carnivals and fireworks at the weekend. We didnt go to any of the carnivals, but we enjoyed the fireworks display from the roof top bar at the hotel. There is a water park with easy access by bus.

Final notes:-
* The Hotel was lovely- despite not catering for children (no mini discos or clubs).
* The staff and Maltese were lovely.
* Value for money- V Good.
* Food - very impressed.
* Gym - looked very impressive...pity I didnt take my training gear!!
* indoor pool was closed during our stay.
* Location - a quiet area with 5 min walk to Buggiba
* Eating locations - Must try The Plum Tree... Delicious!

Would I recommend Malta - Yes 100%
Would I recommend Qawra - Yes
Would I recommend Soreda Hotel ? Yes (but not the younger persons looking for lively hotel / resort)

Our family booked a 10 day stay at this hotel and although this is a 4 star hotel, do not expect UK 4 star standards. Saying that, this hotel is perfectly adequate in what it does. The reception staff seemed helpfull but we did have a bit of a delay awaiting one of our rooms when we arrived. We were early as arrived at 12.00 lunchtime but that said one of rooms not ready for an hour then another hour and then again in half an hour. When we checked out the room at 2.30 all was well and the rooms were clean and well presentable. The housekeeping staff did an excellent job and always cleaned the rooms well and even folded your clothes for you ! The breakfast menu is extensive with everrything you would want, there is even cake and chocolate sauce should you want it (some do) . Lunch can be had in the restaurant which again is good or on the roof top terrace which did burgers/hot dogs etc. The quality was not as good on the roof top terrace as in the restaurant. Dinner in the evening was fine in the restaurant with good choice and waitress service for drinks.
Entertainment on an evening was all on the roof top terrace and for most nights was acceptable and the queues were always minimal at the bar. One point is that on Saturdays the hotel allows the locals to use its facilities which they do in big groups bringing there own drink and food, not good if you can't get a seat and you have paid a lot to be there. RESERVE seats early on saturday or you'll be sat round the side of the bar near the toilets. One other thing, there is only a single unisex loo on the roof top for everyone, and for 4 - 5 days of our 10 days stay was either broken or no light in it. Not good with 100 people drinking up there.
The hotel location is a bit of a walk from bugibba centre - takes about 10-15 minutes but that is a matter of choice.
If you are coming with children, this hotel does not cater for them at all.
Final view - the negatives for this hotel are small and can easily be lived with, this hotel could easily up its standards and be an excellent place to stay but personally i would say pay a bit more and stay at the San Antonio.

Room Tip: Go for a front facing room if possible as back ones look into courtyard.

Very pleasant stay at the Soreda hotel. First time to Malta and would definitely visit again. We stayed in a 2 bedroom apartment situated on the top floor which was very convenient for using pool and pool bar but was never overly noisy. The apartment was cleaned every day to a high standard with fresh towels daily. Overall had an excellent holiday with hot weather, very friendly people and with good very reasonably priced food in all restaurants. Would definitely recommend Malta as so much to see and do and would have no problems with staying at the Soreda again.

Hotel was lovely couldnt fault it. Staff were friendly Three pools to choose from. Gym available and massages at reasonable prices. Roof top area available which is normally empty to relax and be away from the pool and has great sunshine. Gave us complementary breakfast on the first morning which I couldnt fault. Everything from Eggs, omlettes, bacon, sausages, beans, tomatoes to french bread, toast, croissants, cereals, fresh fruit. Local Shops nearby and restaurant Two Cherries just to the left which does amazing food also. Dont know how anyone can complain clearly standards are that of Buckingham Palace.. Hotel was lovely. Boat trip tickets can be brought from round the corner in a shop and for 15 euros you get picked up from your hotel dropped right to the boat and get to spend 4 hours in the amazing blue lagoon this is a must see trip. Then you get picked up and dropped back to your hotel. Short bus ride from paceaville which the night life is amazing and a 10 min walk to bugibba which has afew nice restaurants a kareoke bar and also another bar next to it which has a DJ playing all the latest and older tunes. the walk along the sea front to Bugibba is lovely.

We stayed at the Soreda for 1 week and this was our first trip with Mercury, this hotel is at best a 3 star.
The entrance is shabby the hotel name has fallen down so nothing to tell you which hotel you were in..The bedrooms and bathroom were very clean with sheets and towels changed daily. but very outdated bathroom. We had to ask for the light to be repaired outside our room as we could not see to put the key in the door.. The outlook is of flats at the front and a brick wall at back. Also the brochure does not tell you that it is up a steep hill. The main lounge bar was not open most nights as they had no one to staff it.
EVry year in August they have about 60 French students to stay at the hotel who were noisy and hogged the swimming pool and the childrens pool. Several times guests with children had to ask at reception to get them to move out so as the children could play.
Overall a big disappointment as we walked into the Qawra Palace down the road which is also 4 star and there was no comparison it was light bright and airy.very disappointing experience

Special Holiday for 14 days with family from Yorkshire. I have never been to Malta before. Myself, wife and teenage daughter stayed in a 2 bedroom apartment with separate kitchen and 2 x bathrooms , son and girlfriend in double bed studio apartment next door and oldest son having a double bed studio apartment on same floor to himself. ( ALL PAID FOR BY DAD)
Having read mixed reviews on the hotel I was a bit anxious before arriving. We were greeted by friendly staff at reception at 10:30 p.m. All the rooms were very clean. I Agree that the decor was not as ultramodern as you may expect in U.S.A or in a popular or expensive resort in Spain but it was perfectly acceptable.
Cleaning staff would have come in every morning but on a few days we went back to one or two of the rooms after breakfast. Hence there was once or twice where because the rooms were not free until late we seemed to get a reduced cleaning service with just the towels being replaced and the beds made. We managed to break a toilet flush in one room, we reported it to reception in the morning and it was repaired by the time we returned that evening. The Air conditioning only works when the room is occupied AND you must have the balcony door closed for it to work. I had read criticisms of the Air conditioning but I must say that the above criteria seems logical from a cost effectiveness point of view and in fairness the system worked satisfactorily.

There was entertainment on the Roof top each night - local D.J's and singers doing mainly easy listening well known 'old favourite' 'Singalong' type stuff. The entertainment finished at 11:30 p.m. on the dot each night so there was no rowdyism going on into the early hours.
The rooftop pool and bar/resturaunt get busy during the day but not unpleasantly crowded, there was always space to relax. The bar food is adequate and reasonably priced for a snack meal. The pool area was clean and I would put the water quality at about 80 - 90 percent (It was clean but obviously they use quite a lot of chemicals). I had a swim at least daily and I had no eye sting or ill effects. I wouldn't drink it though.
FOOD - We only did B + B so I cannot comment on Lunch and Evening Meals. You could accuse breakfast of being a bit monotonous BUT although it was pretty much the same each day there was a wide selection to choose from -bacon, sausage, beans, tomatoes, different types of egg, toast, bread or a selection of fruits or cold meats or Croissants, jams, cakes as well as other foods that I didn't have myself so I cant comment on them. Suffice to say that there were 6 of us, 2 of them are fussy eaters but none of us went hungry.
STAFF I got the impression that some of the House Keeping staff do not 'speek ingleesh very good' but they were all polite. The reception is manned 24/7 and they were always helpful. They rang my room when cars / travel documents arrived and I saw them helping others with directions or advice on outings.

OVERALL - I have paid more money and stayed in better places but also I have certainly stayed in far,far worse. We used the hotel as a place to stay and a base to explore from - For this it was excellent.

I am looking to return to Malta (without the children) in a couple of months. I could take a chance and try a different hotel but I wont - I was sufficiently satisfied with the Soreda that I intend to go back.

Room Tip: Avoid room No 13 on each floor. These are directly opposite the lift which makes a noise each time t...

unfortunately stayed 2 weeks in a 70's style hotel. Food that was not eated at dinner was recycled in salads for the next 2 days, hard brussel sprouts! . If you have kids forget about ice cream and get them used to runny custard, over- diluted fruit juices. The fesh fruit salad comes out of a tin. Surprising as the tourist board says that they can grow food all year round. In other 4 star hotels we have looked forward to our dinner, here it was a necessity. Glad we only had half-board accomodation. The rooms were not properly cleaned, a dead cockroach ad dirty plates sat for 3 days at the stairs. Only the front rooms give you a view of more than 15 feet. Our tv didnt work properly even though we complained on the 2nd day . Our impression is that the owners are intent on getting as big a monetary return as they can for the least expenditure.
