It’s not often we venture into Bugibba for a meal, or for anything for that matter. Ever since it has become nothing but a hub for leisure strolling, loud blaring music and ice cream parlours practically door to door to each other, Bugibba has since lost its charm as the quiet seaside resort and it’s now a mecca of revellers and language learning students. To each their own.
We do however look up recommendations and Malét was one of them. Located two streets away from the Bugibba 'Square' (as it is more famously known with the Maltese) on a quiet side street, Malét was ready to surprise us. We were greeted with a very friendly gentleman who escorted us to a table. The place was comfortably cool and although traditional looking, not overly decorated. We ordered a Maltese platter to share as starters and for mains, I opted for quails whereas my partner took the salmon. We were given a complimentary chick pea soup with crusty Maltese bread with our first few sips of wine. The Maltese platter came very well presented with fresh ingredients, as were our mains. The quails were to die for. The meat was deliciously tender and served with this spicy but not hot, lovely sauce. My partner could not compliment the salmon enough. He insisted it was one of the best he’d ever eaten. We were equally surprised when the bill came. It was one of the most reasonably paid for meals we’d had for quite a while.
All in all, we were very pleased with our experience and would definitely not hesitate to visit again soon, as well as recommend the place to anyone. It deserves a much higher ranking than the 9 on TripAdvisor.
