The rooms are quite small and nothing special and what you can expect for a hotel of this class.
The bathroom appeared quite worn and the sink was fitted in a rediculous low position.
The restaurant was very good.

Room Tip: Choose a room away from the street.

Having read previous reviews I have to say my expectations of this hotel were not great, and indeed when we arrived the hotel from the exterior did not look very inviting. However, once inside we received a warm welcome and the staff were friendly and helpful, We had a standard room which looked to have been recently refurbished. Although pretty basic (no hair dryer or tea/coffee facilities in room) the room was extremely clean and the beds very comfortable. We had just two small niggles. In a land of the midnight sun the curtains did not do a very good job of keeping out the light. And, if you had the shower on full the bathroom completely flooded. By contrast we enjoyed a huge positive. The restaurant was charming and both the localy caught arctic char and the halibut were excellent.

Stayed there for 3 nights in middle of July 2013. We booked 3 double rooms by phone the day before we arrived. We got the price op phone. When we arrived, we had too pay more than the price that we agreed on by phone. Stay away from this hotel.

The location is great and I liked the view. I arrived on business at midnight. The receptionist was very pleasant and helpful.

When i got to the room I was surprised at how Cold it was. It didn't bother me as I was heading straight for my bed. It did bother me in the morning though:)
When I took a shower it quickly became apparent to me, that the warm water wouldn't last long. So I got on With it in record time, but the water-temperature dropped rapidly and I was a little Cold. The bath was in a sad state and after my shower the water was all over and I would be surprised if there is no rot or worse. The bathroom was really dirty in the corners, edges and around pipes.

The breakfast was good, especially the eggs:)

Room Tip: Ask if they do have rooms With New Baths...

This hotel definitely has a retro vibe going on. The outside is very much a 60/70's facade. The inside has a few modern touches but not much. The standard rooms are just that and small with little storage space. The small bathroom ends up becoming a wet room as the shower cubicle is small. The heater in the room did well to warm the room, but you do end up with a lot of condensation on the windows if you leave it on overnight. Wireless Internet was intermittent at times albeit free.

Food was quite average in the evening, breakfast was good with a nice selection of both English and continental. Nice having free coffee and tea on tap in reception.

The hotel is convenient for the nearby town and a great location for any arctic activities you want to
do. We had 4 days with Arctic wildlife which was very good and thoroughly enjoyable. I would recommend them.

I'd be hard pushed to recommend this hotel, especially knowing that a Radisson Blu is being built, not sure of the time frame. If you're out and about you don't spend much time in the hotel, so it is fine for just sleeping.

Room Tip: Upgrade to a deluxe room or choose a room that is not facing the main road: snow ploughs are very no...

Stayed here over New Year and loved it! Modern Scandinavian hotel with clean line interior.
We were lucky and had a large room at the back so the snow plough didn't disturb us early morning. Staff were so helpful and friendly, it was a pleasure to get back after a busy day exploring!
Breakfast was plentiful and an excellent selection. We also ate in the restaurant on two occasions and each time was very good. Local produce well prepared and again, served with a smile. We had a birthday in our party and they made a special cake for him! A nice touch!
Certainly would stay there again if in the area.

Room Tip: Ask for a room at the back in the winter to avoid the snowplough in the morning. Top floor is good...

We stayed there on an excellent trip to see Northern lights and Arctic wildlife. The hotel is modern and clean, with helpful service. The public rooms have some real interest, partly because of connections with local writers and artists, and there are works by local artists throughout the building. Wireless internet is free, as are tea and (instant) coffee. On the downside, the rooms are quite small with no storage space for clothes; plan to live out of a suitcase. The shower room/toilet is also small, and you can easily soak the entire floor from a single shower. Food is OK, but no more; there is better to be had elsewhere in town.

Basically, if you want to be in the Sortland area for other reasons - and we do recommend it - this is a perfectly decent place to stay. But you wouldn't come here for the hotel itself.
