Owner description: Dear Visitors to Bran Castle,On June 1, 2009, we celebrated the return of the heirs of Princess Ileana with Bran Castle’s rebirth as the first private museum and premiere tourist destination of Romania.June 1st Is the International Day of Children and Bran Castle’s day of revival.Fittingly, we have chosen to celebrate the day with special events for children, so that we may all remain fresh and young at heart.During the past year we have completed refurbishing the Castle, recapturing the spirit of Queen Marie’s favorite retreat and the loved home of her descendents. We have installed easy to read informational plaques and a media room for our visitors. We are currently restoring the park, as well as renovating all the facilities. We are also preparing additional cultural events and entertainment for our visitors.Following the Castle’s change of ownership, director Narcis Ion remained with the Ministry of Culture, but has continued to be our valued advisor. We have welcomed a new group of managing directors: Lia Doru Trandafir, Corin Trandafir, and Alexandru Priscu. We are happy to receive every guest that comes to visit us.Welcome to our castle, our home.Sincerely,Dominic HabsburgMaria-Magdalena HolzhausenElisabeth Sandhofer

Ticket Booth open @noon, short trek to the castle up the hill. Many steps to go to the top, challenging for some, but giving way to charming interior and exterior architecture, wonderful vistas, great history lesson and explanations of the Dracula Myth. Kids & adults would enjoy it greatly. Definitely worth the drive. They offer head sets for those who want to be informed in detail. Panels are well explained.

Like all old buildings the "castle " was interesting what really caught our attention was the associated attractions, market, period "living" museum buildings and the associated very busy village cafes etc

This 'Dracula's castle' is but a misnomer born out of some tourists' desire to pinpoint the fictional Draculas origins ! 'Bran castle' is a much more realistic name for it, and it's interesting that this was a 'palace' originally run by commoners for the common good of the region. Eventually it was gifted by the people to their beloved queen who made it her summer retreat.
It is a quaint castle with a secret passageway to fuel kids' sense of adventure and a witch's corner to remind one of macabre medieval practices. The history of the brave and beloved queen of the Romanians is quite heart-touching.
The Gallerie restaurant at the foothills is quite good with very fresh trouts on offer. They also honestly tell you if something is not quite fresh!
The Bran market is seemingly a good place to buy small souvenirs from, esp when compared to the higher rates prevalent in the sighisoara walled city.

Thank S M

The castle is really beautiful and best seen from the outside. The castle is a bit boring inside. They let way to many people visit the place at one time - a shame!

When one hears the words Dracula castle you expect a sense of mystique and aura. However you will be surprised . Bran is definitely something to see but is a little over-rated . It is a little castle in the countryside around Brasov and takes quite some effort getting there if you are using public transport . However , do go for the views . There are lots of tourists but the structure itself Is not very imposing . This is one place to go just for the feeling of ticking it off your to-see list when in Transylvania .
