By far the cleanest, friendliest and most comfortable small motel I've stayed in ever !!
When in Independence, staying here is a must, whether for a night or for several days..

Linda is the perfect host.

With this being my first time to the Eastern Sierras I didn't know what to expect. I was meeting a group soon to be friends in Independence to attend the "Pilgrimage to Manzanar" and they had taken the liberty of selecting this place (as they had stayed a couple of times before) and I was throughly surprised. Small, quaint, easy to get to and just an overall cozy place to stay.

Having worked in hospitality for a number of years and having done a lot of traveling I've only encountered a place like this one other time (sadly that other place is now closed). The owner, Linda, was on hand and was a wonderful wonderful gal! She even BBQ'd for us on one of the nights...was not expecting that! I could go on forever about how this place is TOP NOTCH, but you've got to experience it for yourself.

Room Tip: If you're really in need of wifi I would suggest something a little closer to the office, but re...

The room was very nice with a table and two chairs. Also had a coffee pot and microwave. Bed was good. Bath was fine and had a nightlight. Our only problem was that Jenny's cafe is only open Wed-Sat so our Tues evening meant snacking in the room. There is a small casino/truck stop about 2 miles north that serves food, but we were tired of driving. If the weather is good the Sierras in back of the hotel are awesome, but no views from the room. TV is older tube type as is typical in many older motels.

Room Tip: Room size and price depends on bed configuration.

Wow you have got to be kidding clean! Linda ad her mother Shirley were fabulous hosts. The price was awesome so I stayed 4 nights and saw the sites in the area. I loved this part of my trip. Beds good, microwave, coffee pot and fridge. I studied Linda's books from the office about the film museum and Alabama mountains. I would stay here again for sure as I have stayed at over 37 hotels in 3 months and this was the best for price, location, quietness, cleanliness and the kindness of the owner.

A group of 6-7 of us 'Moto-Geezers' get together every year for a 4-5 ride. This year (2013) we based ourselves @ Ray's Den. Linda, the owner, was great. Friendly and trusting. (I won't reveal an check-in secrets here, but suffice to say it was a first-class experience.) The place is small (about 8 rooms). Everything is clean and well-maintained. Linda is proud of her motel and it shows. Despite being on Highway 395, it's pretty quiet at night. The rate we paid for our group was fair - we booked 4 rooms for 4 nights. Each room came with a small (quiet( working refer, a microwave and a coffee maker. The bathroom was clean and the shower was excellent. Linda does have Wi-Fi; it was funky but functional. She usually turned it off at night (not too sure why), but a simple reminder in the AM was all that was needed to turn it back on again. She told us that plans were afoot to get a better system installed. Not that it is really needed. As a side note, Independence is a very friendly town - but don't look for any night-life adventures. There is really only one place to eat (across the street and about a block up and it is more than adequate...we ate there as a group at least 6 times (they serve beer, too.) The guy who runs the Chevron station about 2 blocks up is super and very accommodating. All in all, I would DEFINATELY recommend Ray's Den and would stay there again. Kudo's to Linda!

This area is not overrun with hotels and motels but Ray's Den is the best Mom & Pop that I have stayed in. Cleanest motel that I have ever stayed at. Only 8 rooms but they are furnished nicely and are most comfortable with free parking in front of your room. The rates are excellent for this area and the owner, Linda, is very nice and accommodating. Highly recommended when traveling on 395.

Stayed here last night would definitely recommend it if you are travelling the 395 from Death valley. Linda, the owner very friendly and helpful. Rooms are immaculate with gourmet coffee, fridges, microwave, outdoor seating. And toiletries. The only downside was the Wi-Fi it was quite slow but don't let it turn you off. If you do stay eat in Jenny's cafe across the road.
