Our second stay here, still a great, clean, fair priced motel. Like other reviews have said, the owner and her family are very helpful. One guy in our group got a kick out of the old school door keys. Rooms are completely stocked, coffee, hair dryer, and all. We'll be back.

Room Tip: Very small hotel, any room is ok

It was everything you would like from a small town motel. Owner will show you where to fish. She doesn't like bugs, so no bugs in the rooms. I would recommend this motel to anyone. Subway is the only fast food rest in town, the rest is family rest's in the area. This is a better town to stay in than Lone Pine. Quiet with a nice visitor center.

I will keep this short and sweet. My frineds and I have been staying at the Courthouse Motel off/on for the past several years, and we absolutely love staying there. The owners and their family are extremely pleasant and pleasing, and always throwout the welcome mat for us and anyone that stays. Rosetta always fines new ways to ensure our stay is agreeable, comfortable and enjoyable. She and her family always "do the place up right" and make us feel at home and part of their family. This last visit was for hunting and, they were willing to share some of their hunting secrets. You will not go wrong staying there. If you swingby, tell'em "DD and his sunken truck" sent you.

The rating for this motel is based upon the service and customer care. The place itself is a standard, old - style motel, albeit clean and comfortable.
We arrived early for our check in but the owner was happy to sort out or rooms quickly and efficiently. In the evening he lit a fire - pit sort of affair for our party outside and happily chatted for a while. A very easy and pleasant stay made all the better by Dugans tavern just next door.

We dropped into independance as an overnight stay on our way from Vegas to San Francisco, having seen the reviews on tripadvisor we decided to try the courthouse and weren't dissappointed.

A lovely welcome from Paul, easy checkin, clean rooms with TV, microwave and coffee making facilities. Beds were comfortable and no noise from the nearby road.

There is now a bar next door which has just opened which serves good food in the evenings and the locals are extremely hospitable they made us Brit foreigners feel very welcome.

Definitely recommended

Spent a night at the courthouse as a stop off between Yosemite and Vegas.
Drove from Sonora over the Sonora pass, which is in a word breathtaking. The scenery in my opinion is up there with the best views I've ever experienced.
Stopped at Bodie ghost town which was fascinating and definitely worth a visit, and headed down to Independence.
The courthouse is your basic motel on the highway in a quiet small town. But saying that the room was spotlessly clean with a fridge, tv and a coffee maker and ac. The owner was friendly and helpful, and the motel was a short walk to a store/ subway for essentials.
After a 5 hour drive we sat on the chairs provided outside every room, had a few cold ones and watched the sun go down.
All in all for a stop off on the way to Vegas it fitted the bill perfectly. Breakfast at Jennys across the road was good too.

This is a no frills, clean hotel about 15 minutes north of Lone Pine. We were in the area to climb Mt. Whitney, but all the hotels in Lone Pine were filled up. It's across the street from Jenny's Cafe which is a great little family run restaurant (Jenny will serve you breakfast!). And, on the day we arrived, we got there too late to find any places open for dinner. But, the owner graciously offered us a plate of pasta she had cooked up for herself that night. How's that for hospitality?? Independence is also just about 5 miles north of the Manzanar Relocation Camp where Japanese Americans were sent at the start of World War II. It's a must see!
