This was quite a suprise. We didn't quite know what to expect and booked it because we wanted to see El Chorro. From the other side of the gorge it looks like a rather austere box of a building which doesn't exactly draw you towards it and there's a hydro electric plant below which doesn't add to its allure. But for all that there's something about this place that makes it really unusual. The most obvious attraction is the truly spectacular view of the gorge and surrounding cliffs, which constantly colour as the sun passes. The pool area and the cafe terrace look onto this. They've clarly spent quite a lot of money refurbishing the place. Everything was in good reapair and although it's basic rather than luxurious it does have a distinctive style. Nothing more so than our room which was smartly tiled and on split levels with red LED lights embedded in the steps. The food is simple but good quality local fare - I had leg of goat (Kid) which was delicious. I think they could afford to do a bit more with the food but even so we really loved the place and would certainly go back.

Room Tip: They all seemed the share the spectacular view - but make sure you double check that you're look...

While touring in the El Chorro region, we decided to have lunch at La Garganta. With stunning views over the embalse (reservoir) and the mountains from our table in the shade of the overhanging vines, we enjoyed a lovely Tapas lunch. The service was friendly and efficient and the meal was excellent.
After the meal we had a good nose round the property and liked what we saw. Would definitely consider staying here if we came back to the region. The location is idyllic.

we stayed in a two bedroom apartment. it has amazing views from the balcony. inside it is small dark and cramped. a very tiny kitchen, with no large mugs and we had to steel glasses from the bar so as to have something to drink out of. there is a large fridge, which is handy. the aircon works well and there are radiators, so presumably it is warm in winter.
to be honest though, it is not worth the £100 a night price tag. our bed was so uncomfortable I have been left with a bad back. they are basically camp beds with thin mattresses. the furniture is basic, and our bed side draw was covered with graffiti on the inside.one of the dinning chairs was broken. the sofa is very small and un-comfy. The place is clean enough, but the kitchen bin is so small, that if you are self catering, the rubbish piles up very quickly. they only come and clean if you specifically ask them to. we stayed 5 nights, the rooms were serviced twice.
there is no privacy as the walls to the bedrooms do not go all way up to the ceiling, which is to show off the high beamed ceiling.
The best aspect is the bathroom, which is modern and clean. plenty of towels provided. the odd thing is, is that when you arrive, they provide you with boxed tooth brushes, a boxed comb, a box of tissues, dinky bottles of shampoo, dinky bottles of nicely scented body lotion, but no soap ! even basic travel lodges provide soap!
there is even an incense holder !
the pillows are old fashioned bolsters, and very shallow and not at all comfortable
we did see photos of the junior suites and they looked much nicer.
the best part about the hotel is the pool, which has Jacuzzi effect at shallow end, amazing view, comfy sun loungers and pool bar service.
also the location, views are stunning and right next to small station.
down side is the hydro electric plant which makes faint humming sounds and the pylons. but the view out weighs though.
if the fancy rooms have better beds then i'd give those a go. but i could not stand more than a night in the bed we had.

Room Tip: dont get the apartments.

We stayed at la garganta for two nights last year and loved it so much made sure we came here for longer this year while holidaying in Spain. Stayed for five nights in room 107 our favourite. The hotel is in a beautiful position with stunning views, we pretty much had the hotel to ourselves while we were here and only ever shared the pool with two people during our entire stay. We enjoyed the food on any occasion we ate here and found it to be of good standard, drinks are the usual large Spanish measures and sitting watching the sun go down behind the mountain on the terrace is beautiful. We found all the staff and owners to be really friendly and helpful, a few even remembering us from last year. As with most places in Spain show a willingness to speak even some basic Spanish and its greatly appreciated! La garganta holds special memories for us and we will most definitely be returning. Found out they hold weddings here and for us would be no other place more perfect.

On a recent trip to Spain we went to El Chorro for the day and ended up having some lunch at La Garganta. It really was very good - my 'rabo del toro' (bulls tail stew) was delicious and the rabbit my friend had was also very good; both portions were large - we certainly didn't leave hungry. Prices were not expensive for all that was on offer and the menu was varied so there was something for everyone. I would go back again and would certainly consider staying at the hotel as it's situated in a very quiet and lovely area.

Stayed for a night whilst on a tour of the region - this was the worst food of the hotels we used. I would say the location is OK and the surrounding area is very pretty. I was disappointed by the 'in the lakes' tag, as its actually a man made reservoir and power station! Its fairly attractive as they go, but certainly not of the natural lakes standard.

The rooms are nice enough, but the worst point is the food. They got the order worng on several acounts, the food was cold and we all agreed pretty poor quality. Breakfast was very limited and didnt open til 9am - too late in my view.

For me its an adequate stop over hotel nothing more.

We went to El Chorro a couple of weeks ago. It was a really beautiful place. We stopped by for a dinner at La Garganta. Its might be the worst dinner we have had. We ordered pasta with minced meet. O boy, minced bones and fat. Really greasy!! Super bad!! It was impossible to eat it. Before we ordered the food, we asked the staff if we could get access to the hotels Internet when eating. "NO, the Internet is for hotel guests only". Would not recommend anyone to eat at La Garganta. The hotel area looks nice but the staff is not kind. We promised us self to write this review when we get back to Sweden.
