“I keep going back to Fuego Blanco .....”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 12 June 2014

This is a lovely part of the world. Alora nestles in a verdant valley beneath the mountains, not far from the El Chorro Gorge. Fuego Blanco is a lovely place to spend a holiday on a beautiful finca (organic lemons, oranges, olives) and with lovely hosts, Ken and Sarah. You are made very welcome. It is very peaceful and a great place to unwind and so we keep going back year after year. There is also plenty to do and places to visit when we feel more energetic. Something different this year for me was a visit to a friend's goat farm where we were shown how goats' cheese is made in the old and traditional way. No mechanisation here. The highlight was that I made the cheese myself - we all did. There is great satisfaction in making cheese from scratch. It is a weird and magical process - the way it has been made for centuries. This is an experience ticked off my bucket list! Needless to say we will return to Fuego Blanco again next year.

Room Tip: They are all en suite and all have lovely views. There is also a suite of rooms.

You can do as much or as little as you want if you stay at Fuego Blanco. A great location to explore the beautiful surrounding areas by car or on foot, or you can just relax and do nothing. The accommodation is clean and comfortable, the hosts are very friendly and helpful. We were there in February when the weather was not brilliant but spent wonderful time just relaxing by the big fire place in their main living room. if you are thinking of visiting this area of Spain, I highly recommend staying at Fuego Blanco. oh and did I mention the delicious food they serve as an optional.

The accommodation itself - We stayed in the suite which was really spacious for us and had its own private balcony with a beautiful view. The bedroom and bathroom were spacious and the place was immaculately clean yet comfortable. The nights were a bit chilly as it was March but the electric fire and air conditioning units quickly heated up the room. The pool is beautifully located in the sun with gorgeous views although admittedly in March we couldn't stay in there too long but I'd imagine you wouldn't want to get out in the summer! The suite had a tv and dvd player so on a lazy night you could watch one of the dvds from the communal area. They also had board games, books and cds you could borrow for a more chilled out evening.

The location - The hotel itself is just outside the main town part of Alora. This allows you the lovely views. It was a little more remote than we are used to but Sarah and Kenneth happily arranged us taxis when we wanted to have a drink in town (between 7 and 10 euros each way depending on where you are going). To drive to town was about 5/10 minutes or we were told it was about a 45 minute walk although we didn't do this. If you have a car the hotel is in a great location to explore El Chorro but also not too far away from El lobo wolf park, Antequera and El Torcal. From Alora train station we also caught trains to Malaga central (approx 40 min), Benalmadena ( 2 trains, approx an hour) and Ronda (approx an hour and 20 but stunning).

The hosts - Sarah and Kenneth couldn't have been more welcoming or more knowledgeable about the local area. On arrival we were offered a drink and some olives and throughout our stay they let us borrow maps for various areas. They discussed with us places to go and which places may be disappointing. They had train time tables and were knowledgeable about the local trains. They gave recommendations for museums and local sights. Most helpfully of all, as I'm vegan they were able to recommend several vegetarian or vegan restaurants for us in Malaga and Torremolinos, gave us a spanish crib sheet with phrases to convey my dietary restrictions, told us about a bar in Alora that would do vegetable fajitas if you asked which weren't on the menu and where to go to eat for stunning views of the gorge in Ronda. On the night we came back from Camino del Rey and couldn't be bothered to go to a restaurant, despite us previously having said we would sort ourselves out, Sarah on the fly whipped us up some "snacky bits" which was a tray full of local cheese for my other half, a gorgeous hoummous, some crusty bread, olives, a fresh salad and a bottle of wine.

The food - Stunning!! They willingly catered for me being vegan including dairy free ice cream, dairy free margarine, a choice of dairy free milks and dairy free yoghurts. We had beautiful breakfasts every day (cereal, toast, a selection of cooked items) and two lovely evening meals for about 22 euros each which included 2 courses and half a bottle of wine each. The marmalade at breakfast is home made and gorgeous as was the orange juice. For food we particulary enjoyed the hazelnut and courgette loaf, and at breakfast, the tomatoes on toast lightly covered with olive oil and garlic. Oh and for beer they have an honesty bar where they only charge a euro per beer!

Room Tip: If you can afford the extra (and its available), the suite has a better balcony and a generous livin...

Fuego Blanco is located among orange and lemon groves a short distance fron Alora. It is exceptionally friendly and well run by Sarah and Ken. It provides an ideal base to explore the El Chorro region with fantastic scenery and many walks. Well recommended. We were a group of four from Ireland visiting in February.

A beautiful spot a short drive from Malaga airport. Stayed for three nights at the end of November/beginning of December. The sun shone and visibility was excellent for the beautiful walks recommended by our hosts. In the cooler evenings, we warmed up by the fire in the large living room and were given delicious meals.

The accommodation was very comfortable and the meals absolutely delicious. We enjoyed walks near Fuegoblanco through lemon and orange groves and further away treks with excellent suggestions and directions from Sarah and Kenneth. We also had an excellent day in Malaga exploring the old city ,visiting the glass museum, sampling a Lebanese lunch,Arabic teas and a Sherry bar, variety for everyone !

We stayed for 2 nights in September. We wanted to be close to Malaga airport after holidaying in Andalucia.
Our hosts were very welcoming and keen to ensure we made the most of our short stay in the area. We went up to el Chorro and had a lovely day visiting the ruins at Bobastro and the lakes. The views were magnificent.
Our bedroom was spacious, clean and comfortable. Breakfast was delightful - outside on the patio. Dinner was excellent - also on the patio.
We enjoyed the pool after a hard day's sight seeing.
Thank you Kenneth and Sarah.
