“beautiful hotel in beautiful location”
Reviewed 11 August 2013

We came to Villa Padierna for 3 nights after our wedding for a minimoon to relax. We did arrive very late at night and unfortunately it was very difficult to find with the address given on the hotel's website. We had hired a car from Malaga airport and used a satnav - the address states Benahavis - the hotel is not in Benahavis...we even called the hotel for something to enter in to the satnav or even an exit to look out for - we just kept getting told you can't miss it! We did. But we did eventually find and it was amazing!
Beautiful views from all around, we stayed in a Junior Suite that had lovely views of the golf course.
The pool area was not that big but adequate - the pool attendants were not always the most helpful but it didn't affect us too much.
The Spa was nice - expensive and ok for a special occasion but not sure I would have been otherwise.
Breakfast was good - nice selection of food - but do note that there is a limited selection if the hotel it not full.
All the staff were very friendly - and overall we were happy with our stay.

Room Tip: Ask for a Junior Suite facing the golf course/ sea view.

My sons played the Alferini course today and had a dissapointing experience. After checking in, they were told to "choose a buggy out back" on their own, and head for the first tee. There was a score card on the buggy. When they reached the first tee, very far from the proshop, they realized the card was for one of the other courses. Their tee time was ready, so they played without a card....no starter was there to help them. All in all, no service at all, except for taking their money when they arrived. With all the unemployment in Spain, why not employ someone at bag drop ( no-one was there to help them when we arrived and departed), and a starter on the first hole to give score cards, welcome people and provide some course information. In quality courses, courses often hire young people at bag drop that work for tips only, and retired seniors as starters that work for free so they can golf for free on their days off. Neither cost the club any money, and give SERVICE, something that this club knows nothing about. Also, the cart with drinks on the course didn't find them until hole 10, when they were dying for a drink....yet the course was practically empty. No-one offered them anything to drink before playing, and of course, there was no water provided on the buggy by this 6 star hotel, in spite of the very high temperatures. All in all, this kind of "0" service is expected at a municipal course, not a 6 star hotel. In spite of the slow season and limited golf customers at this time, the golf management of this "quality establishment" should be ashamed. As for the course itself, they said it was in really good shape, greens were a bit slow but also in really good shape, and it was extreemly narrow and tough on many holes, in fact actually unfair on quite a few holes. They are low handicappers ( 4 & 5) and would not reccommend this course unless you are looking for an extreemly demanding course, even if the service had been excellent.
Respectfully,
Bobby Thompson, Vancouver Canada.

Dear guest,

First of all I would like to thank you your stay at Villa Padierna Palace Hotel. Also we appreciate your time in writing your review.

We would like to apologize for this experience at our golf course. We also would like to mention that the procedure at the golf course should be always the same, under the highest standards of service.
We provide to the guest the card to the different courses, all the buggies have two bottles of water and the waiter of the buggy bar is always around the course. We regret to read that this procedure was failed during your experience.

Once again please accept our apologies and we hope to welcome you back in order to show you the standards of service that we normally offer to our guests.

Having been nurtured in earlier more tranquil times, this hotel comes as balm to the soul. The staff are pleasant and welcoming, and their very manner shows that they are there to be of service. The rooms themselves are spacious and tastefully furnished, and one might spend a whole afternoon simply admiring the art work on the walls of the corridors. The grounds are magnificent, and the lawns appear to have been cut with nail scissors. The sound of running water from the numerous fountains evokes a memory of Al-Andalus under the Omeya dynasty. I am not a golfer, but it is apparent that the three attached courses and other facilities make this a golf venue second to none. That apart, there is not much else to do in this haven of calm and beauty but to relax and be pampered.

Positives
Gorgeous rooms and decor throughout. Very clean. Friendly staff. Stunning views. We didn't have any issues re breakfast/ eggs from other reviews.
Spa is huge but very much under used. You do have to pay extra to use the spa facilities which is a little disappointing having paid for a 5 star resort.
Our balcony was huge (overlooking the pool/ courtyard) - room 123.

Negatives
Concierge did not reply to our emailed query re parking at the hotel two weeks before our arrival.
Restaurants all a la carte, little variation between both menus. A lot of fish.
No shop nearby for snacks etc. A club sandwich approx 13 euro for lunch at pool.
If hotel was >50% capacity then there may be too few loungers beside pool.
Overall we think if the hotel reduced its half/full board price and increased the variation in the menus then more people would stay for meals and not travel out with. We stayed in mid July and most nights there were very few people in the restaurants (we didn't complain!!)
The indoor pool is not allowed for use by babies and kids which is disappointing.

What a strange place. Booked a table for 5 people at 9.00 pm. Arrived at the Hotel. Reception and parking not clearly marked, the hotel looked closed. The concierge, or someone took the car keys, no receipt for the car. No one asked where we wished to go. We found the plaque saying the Veranda Restaurant but the doors were locked and lights off. We found someone to ask and pointed us to another unmarked entrance. The food was OK slightly under seasoned but not exceptional. The issue was when paying the bill. We wished to split the bill between two and gave our cards and asked for 50/50. We gave the amount. After 15 minutes they had not returned with the card machine. We chased and they said they had an IT issue. A further 10 minutes and they returned with an apology staying they had made an error and charged the the total bill to one card! We asked them to reverse the transaction but they could not and would not. They walked away! Not an experience, not an event, looks as if they are in Finacial difficulty and staff are not adequately trained. Not a leading restaurant or hotel. Bench avid has many very very good places to eat, this is not one of them.

We stayed in Villa Padierna for 12 days. The rooms are spacious, the bathroom very well equipped. Everything is very clean. We saw the housekeeping cleaning all the time. The swimming pool is beautiful. One can discuss the necessity of heating it (with solar energy?) a bit but then it will loose it's refreshing effect. All food is great.
The service in the hotel is superb. Everybody is very friendly and attentive. Wifi in the room is charged (10 € for 24 h.) but there is a computer with internet available near the lobby for free.
As the hotel, it's beachclub is a oasis of peace and quietness. The beachclub needs a pool which will attract more customers and will add productivity to it's staff.
On the costa del sol, this is an excellent choice for the traveller looking for luxe and quietness, being still rather close to Marbella.
Tip: rent a car and ask for it at the lobby. Good service, good price, punctual and friendly people.
Overall anything you ask for they will deliver. We don't golf (yet) but at a next stay on the Costa Del Sol, we will return to Villa Padierna.
