I stayed at the Inn on business this fall. The fire in the lobby fireplace is such a "warm" welcome. The front desk staff could not have been friendlier and more efficient. The rooms are well appointed and comfortable. The dining room staff is very professional and attentive. The down side to the resort from a conference attendees point of view is noise distraction. The meeting room we were in must abut a service area because half way through the presentation, it sounded like staff were setting up a bar and at times quite disruptive. That being said, the meeting rooms are state of the art and very attractive.

We are currently staying at the Woodstock Inn and it is beautiful. The staff could not be any nicer. We are in a fireplace room and highly recommend it in the winter. The one caveat I have is we are in Room 113 on the first floor that faces the side and there is a very loud hum outside our window that goes off frequently. I would not recommend this room. We don't know if it's the elevator mechanism or what it is, but if you are sensitive to sound (like I am) this loud intermittent hum will drive you nuts. I'd suggest getting a room on the second floor or to make sure you check outside your window to see what mechanics are lying in wait.
The only other item that we thought would be a nice touch is the restaurant. I had hoped they would have given it a bit more ambiance given it's such a highly rated restaurant. If they would just put white tablecloths on the mission style tables it might make the place feel more like fine dining. The food is great, but the ambiance is lacking. There is no warmth to the restaurant and nothing that makes it feel special. I would recommend eating in the Tavern instead which has tons of ambiance and warmth due to the dark wood and the fireplace. Again, my experience is based solely on the winter season.

Room Tip: Do not choose Room 113 due to the loud hum outside the window.

Afraid I have to disagree with Dana. We just returned from a 4 day stay celebrating our 30th anniversary (our 4th stay in as many years. Yes there was a Saturday wedding at the Inn, but hardly noticeable. Staff could not have been nicer and went the extra mile. Our waitress, Ashley a delight!. A wonderfully romantic weekend!

I chose to spend my 66th birthday at the Woodstock Inn, and it was a wonderful decision. The Inn met all of our expectations. It is truly luxury in an historic setting. From the beautiful stone fireplace that greets you when you walk in, to the impeccable service provided by the staffs, it was a wonderful experience. The decor is simple yet elegant. The room was large and beautifully appointed. The staff goes out of their way to make you feel comfortable. Although we do not usually spend this much money on accommodations, we felt we got a lot of value. We hiked the mount tom area during the day and it was beautiful.

Over the last fifteen years of staying at the Woodstock Inn with my family and husband, I've observed the hotel deteriorate in terms of service, quality, and accommodation attentiveness. The rooms and the furnishings are very dated now, and the wear and tear is showing greatly in the rooms. The service my husband and I were shown on this most recent trip was disappointing. Our front desk clerk didn't even acknowledge us when we arrived to check in, there were no bell men available to help with our luggage, and we were given the worst room - smallest and very loud, right by the elevator - we've ever stayed in though we always book the same level room (Tavern King w/Fireplace). The hotel has even taken pains to remove guest access to firewood, which used to be placed in the hallways, and now we had to call guest services each time we wanted to start a fire for the evening. It felt unnecessary for the bell men as well as an extra step - annoyance - for us.

I also still believe - as mentioned previously in an earlier review - that the housekeeping charge and resort fee per day is unfair to guests visiting at certain times of the year. We stayed during the week in late November, a time when Billings Farm is only open to the public during the weekend. Therefore, the value of the resort fee, which provides free guest access to the farm, was diminished for us. The hotel should consider linking the resort fee to time of year and/or week.

We won't be returning to the Woodstock Inn again, and though we will be returning to the larger Quechee/Woodstock area, we'll be looking for a new hotel.
