My wife and I stayed at The Woodstock Inn on Wassail Weekend 2008. When we arrived on Friday for check-in, we immediately noticed that the lighting was very dim in the lobby...hmmmm. The attendant at the check-in counter made us aware that the Inn was without electricity and running on generator power, and that the area had experienced a massive power outage due to ice. Well, that certainly was not what we wanted to hear, having traveled from Houston, TX, to enjoy a Vermont Holiday Weekend! He further stated that they "hoped" to have power back on sometime that evening. About two hours after check-in, thankfully the electricity was restored. The rest of the weekend was absolutely wonderful. The Inn was very comfortable and appealing, conveniently and centrally located, and there were lots of family members of all ages having a great weekend. The room was perfect, the breakfasts were great, and the people very nice and helpful. We will be returning for the Wassail Weekend again in 2009, and again, we will be staying at The Woodstock Inn! My memories of all those holiday movies from my childhood were revived while staying here, and we look forward to our next stay!

Probally the best hotel from miles the Woodstock Inn was very traditional hotel in a very traditional town. My family (including my extended family), came from Toronto, Canada to attend my cousins graduation, at Dartmouth College (aprox. 30 mins. away from Woodsotck). I (age 13) have traveled the world, and come to love modern/trendy hotels.
Pros:The Woodstock had a beuatiful exterroir and was suitable for the occasion. It was also located right in the center on the town and had a very nice 'curb appeal'.
Cons: The 'back' of the hotel was being renovated and was a horrible sight. The whole yard was ripped up and dirt was everwhere. I was looking forward to using their pool, but instead I had to look out to a big ugly pile of dirt. During breakfast all the windows faced the torn apart yard, and that was a big disappointment for families with children.
The hotel did the job, nothing more.

We stayed at the Woodstock Inn as part of our tour of New England - and it was without doubt the highlight of our tour. The Inn was not only full of character, but full of amenities too. Very friendly staff helped point out the local attractions with local drives/walks and even the diner in nearby Windsor! The golf course, tennis courts and nearby indoor pool were fabulous too.
Very highly recommended and we would certainly return.

This was our third summer trip to the Inn and by far the very best. We stayed in the King Tavern Wing room and it was very quiet and offered all of the best amenities. The food at the inn has improved tremendously since our last visit. We ate at the bar at The Red Rooster and thought the pub fare was excellent. We opted for the continental breakfast in the main dining room each morning where the granola and yogurt were home made and the fresh fruit was delicious. Richardson's Tavern now serves sandwiches, soups and salads and offers a nice alternative to take in a Red Sox game in a more tavern like setting. The new spa will be open in Fall 2010. The fitness facility is about 1 1/2 miles up the road which is a small inconvenience but the ride was worth it for the yoga and pilates classes. We hope management continues on the same path and brings the inn back to its fullest potential.

Spent a couple of nights here recently with our family, and we must have caught the same weather pattern than the last reviewer. Yes the rain was frustrating, but we found the inn, the staff and the area to be excellent - and I wouldn't call us geezers...yet. The key for us was to consider the inn and the village of Woodstock not so much as destinations unto themselves, but more as a base camp. We drove around the countryside one day; taking in the small villages, antique stores, covered bridges and other sites, and on the other day we went hiking on some trails around Woodstock. We especially liked hiking up Mt. Tom, which faces the resort (easy climb for a family with kids, about 45 minutes). One of the reservationists at the resort even let us borrow her day pack so we could carry a small lunch - very thoughtful. The bellmen went above and beyond as well...very good service. In between all this we managed to dine and have drinks at the Tavern in the Inn - which we enjoyed. We did not dine in the other restaurants at the Inn; but we did eat at Bentleys in town (conveniently walkable and casual) and the Simon Pearce (about a 6 mile drive - but very, very good). The spa is about a 1 1/2 miles down the road - we went one time and enjoyed it, but probably would have gone more if it had been located at the hotel proper. Overall, we enjoyed the Woodstock Inn and Resort and would definitely go back. I imagine they do big business in the fall for the foliage and the winter as well for skiing. For summer travelers, I think you just need to take some of the advice above and you'll have a great time.

We booked this place on the unlimited golf package and unfortunately it rained the entire time we were there. We managed to get in 9 holes. The staff at the golf club were great. The hotel is clean, nicely decorated and the food we had at breakfast and in the dining room was very good. The problem with this place is that there is nothing to do here otherwise. Yes there are fitness facilities but other than that the place is BORING. All the other guests were seniors and the place reminded me of a retirement home. Old men in the library and lobby asleep with their papers in their laps, real exciting atmosphere! The town is neat to see for about an hour. The shops all close at 5pm so you can't even shop.

I have to confess - I have always wanted to stay here from the first time I saw it in college. It is the ultimate charming inn in Vermont - not quaint (this is a big place), just wonderful, from its setting on the village green and location to the few streets with cute shops and restaurants, to its own nice restaurant (the view wasn't much since they are building one of those high end spas in the back, just fyi), nice rooms - I upgraded to the Tavern Wing - comfortable beds, quiet, excellent fitness building about 1/2 mile away + golf course, and free Internet -- why do expensive hotels charge you for this?
