We were very pleased with the Shire Riverview . The room was very spacious, clean, and had a beautiful view of the river. Walking distance to the downtown area with shops & restaurants. Several interesting sights were an easy drive. We especially enjoyed the Marsh, Billings, and Rockefeller Farm.

We stopped there off the road by happenstance, very happy we did. The room was beautiful with a 4 poster bed very clean and views of the river. There is a balcony with a view of the river as well very peaceful listening the sounds of the water and birds. The owners Dorothy and Vince were very nice people as well as accommodating to our needs. Would recommend this motel to anyone that wants a peaceful place to stay. Woodstock is a quaint new england town with nice little shops and restaurants with friendly people

A bit spendy but a beautiful location overlooking the river in a classic new england village - Woodstock, Vt.. Charming room, flower beds, lawn down to the river in back. You will love it. Not much else to say. They don't offer anything else - just a nice room ina great spot. When you get there you will understand. You can walk to town for anything you need and there is a small supermarket across the street.

Room Tip: Get a rear facing room overlooking the river.

Great place to stay with beautiful views over a river. The rooms are big (if a little dated) and the balcony with chairs and tables is very nice to sit with a glass of wine and soak up the view. Woodstock and the surrounding area is gorgeous. We found a great creak to swim in. Only down side to the Shires are the beds which are way too soft and creaky which doesn't make for a great nights sleep. Love Woodstock & the Shires is great value!

When I pulled up to the Shire, I have to admit that despite all the great reviews, I was feeling a little concerned. From the outside, it looks like your typical motel. However, the room was really nice, spacious, well lit (important because I like to read in the evening) very clean, and relatively quiet. The bed was very comfortable.

I had registered and paid for a value room, but they upgraded me to a king, river view, which of course contributed to my overall positive feeling about the place. I didn't end up seeing the value room, so I can's speak about that. I liked that in addition to the bed, there were two comfy wing chairs from which you could look out onto the lovely river view.

The front desk staff was friendly and I liked being able to walk into Woodstock Village. A plus for people who may be spending longer periods of time than I, there's a really nice market across the street.
