Our favorite place in New England & most affordable too! I loved that it was off the beaten path a bit, away from the touristy downtown area. Also do yourself a favor & pick up some of the maple syrup they serve at breakfast from Top Acres farm which is just a mile or two away! They were great little souvenirs for friends & family that they'll actually use & enjoy too! Charming, quaint & historic! Would love the opportunity to come again!

We had a wonderful two night stay at this historic B&B. What once was a grist mill, built in 1779, has been turned into an enchanting home. History surrounds you here, both in the building, the furnishings and the surroundings and the owners are eager to share their knowledge with you. The room was comfortable and, while 3 rooms shared a single washroom, it was never an inconvenience. What a marvellous thing to be lulled to sleep by the babbling brook that runs behind the building and to awaken in the night and see the millions of stars in the clear night sky. A different breakfast was served each day and we enjoyed them both. This establishment is definitely worth a return visit. :)

Room Tip: We had the Kedron room, where you will share a queen sized bed and a loft single that is reachable b...

The Grist Mill House is a comfortable piece of history that you can be a part of. It was a joy to spend a evening in this unique environment. No TV, radio, cellphone...but yes, Wi-Fi.Your shoes are left in the mud room and the floors will creak as you make your way to to the only bathroom. You can walk down the road to a country store and an inn with a full restaurant. The house may be old but the bathroom isn't. Large and clean it has a skylight over the tub and plenty of hot water for a shower. Peter was an accommodating host who's pancakes served with local bacon were the best. Don't go to a hotel...stay in this piece of Vermont!

Room Tip: The Kedron Room is small but it is the first at the top of the stairs.

If you want a truly Vermont experience, this is the place for you. This renovated Grist Mill has all the luxuries and comforts of a traditional B&B, and more. The space is beautiful and perfect for a relaxing escape.

The Inn is full of open public spaces or places to sit alone and read. I liked the back decks, chairs by the brook, and the wide open public space on the first floor.

The rooms were clean and unique. Our room had 2 sleeping lofts in it! It felt like something out of "little house on the prairie"! The decor of the Inn was more historic and elegant, than primitive...a detail I noticed and appreciated a great deal!

No televisions, but there is WIFI. Cell service is a little spotty in this area as well...but this would be a place to go if you wanted to truly disconnect for a day or two. I didn't mind these, I actually enjoyed sitting in a chair and reading a book beside the babbling brook that runs behind the mill.

I tend to be a bit picky about breakfasts at B&B's and this Inn really served up at breakfast that was filling, tasty, and integrated local foods. I also think the coffee was perfect!

I plan on returning to this lovely place anytime I am in the area. I would recommend it to others as well!.

Room Tip: Each room is unique, make sure you check the description of the room to ensure it will meet your nee...

Having stayed at the Grist Mill House on several different occasions, in each of the three rooms, enjoyed a full variety of the breakfasts that Peter Pickett creates (and we think they compare favorably with the ones I create--and we're very picky), I think we're finally at the point where we can wholeheartedly, without reservations on our part, recommend this B&B. But there are caveats--you cannot be attached to t-v, you cannot be dependent on your cell phone, you cannot require your own separate baths, you cannot be bothered by creaky and sometimes uneven floors. The graciousness of host and hostess (Carole), their willingness to assist in helping you in any way they are able, including very carefully considered dining recommendations, make stays here a true delight.

Room Tip: Each room has its own character--our most recent trip we stayed in the one room (Ruud) we had never...

What a treat! The Grist Mill is out of the way in horse country about 5 miles from Woodstock, vermont. What makes it special is it was built in 1779. It has WIFI but no TV. The open area has huge ceiling beams and beautiful floors. There are only 3 rooms but well appointed. The atmosphere was quiet and relaxing

Breakfast consisted of coffee/tea, scones and fresh fruit.

The best part was the room rate. All in all a wonderfull place to stay.

We stayed in the Kedron room which was very quirky with its bunk bed and sloping ceilings, but also had a fantastic view overlooking the brook with its therapeutic sounds.

The property has charm and has been beautifully restored with all its beams, low ceilings etc and therefore has vast appeal. It is a short drive in to idyllic Woodstock so it is a good location and also reflects the excellent value for money. This was certainly one of the more picturesque places we stayed in New England.

A few contrary points are that the bathroom is shared between all three bedrooms so that could be up to 8 people which could be interesting! On our bed was a very pretty handmade quilt but there were instructions basically saying not to use it, it was merely for decoration...
I would also say that the owners very much reminded me of the main characters in "One Foot in the Grave"!
