“Everything a B&B should be.”
Reviewed 24 February 2014

My husband and I stayed at the Canterbury House B&B for three nights back in October 2013. I just realized my oversight in failing to review earlier.

Bob and Sue are outstanding hosts. My husband and I are younger that the average travelers and often find that we are dismissed or overlooked. I don't think I have ever been made to feel more welcome. Breakfast is served around two large tables, so you are sitting with all the other guests. I've been at B&Bs in other places where the same setup had felt a little awkward. But Bob and Sue are such great conversationalists, that by the end of breakfast each day, conversation was lively and guests were exchanging tips on the area.

We stayed in the Reeve's Tale room. The room and bathroom were immaculately clean and the room was comfortable. We chose to open our windows rather than use the air conditioning, but there was a window unit. The room and bathroom were on the smaller side, as you would expect for an older property, but it still had all the modern conveniences you would expect.

The location was absolutely perfect, and a big motivation for selecting the Canterbury House. Its an easy walk into town and to the small shops and restaurants. Bob and Sue even tipped us off to a pretty nice hiking area within walking distance.

Despite visiting Woodstock during foliage season, we found Canterbury House to be great value and will most likely be back next time we're in Vermont.

My wife and I had a most delightful overnight at the Canterbury House B&B while attending a wedding at the nearby Woodstock Inn - our stay exceeded expectations - our room (the Squires tale) was spotless, comfortable and had a private bath - like staying at home! - The Inn keepers Bob and Sue Frost are wonderful hosts and fountains of information regarding the lovely, quaint town of Woodstock and environs - They suggested we lunch enroute at the Simon Pearce restaurant in nearby village of Quechee and that experience was marvelous - The restaurant is situated on a picturesque river, the food was excellent, and the locale is collocated with the famous glass factory and gift shop of te same name - Bob and Sue were right on! Our breakfast at the B&B was delicious - homemade French Toast fresh fruit and set with candlelight in the lovely dinning room. Bob and Sue joined us with their coffee and we had a great hour or so of informative and friendly chats with them - If you ravel to Woodstock - don't miss this B&B - a value and delightful experience - We will return. Room Tip: All the rooms we saw were lovely and spotless!

B & B no 5 on our travels through New England and without doubt, tops the list. As all other reviews comment - Bob and Sue are fabulous inn keepers and make you feel most welcome. It's as though they are welcoming you into their home as friends and not to their B & B as guests. Sue's breakfasts are phenomenal and fill you up for a good day out. Our room was at the front of the house, but we did not find it noisy at all. It was beautifully furnished and whilst the 'shower room' was tiny, it worked well. There is both off street or on street parking and The Canterbury House is within easy walking distance of the many restaurants to be found downtown. We loved Woodstock and our stay at The Canterbury House and hope to be able to return one day to both.

Room Tip: We were very happy with our room on the road, but one at the back of the house would probably be qui...

The proprietors of Canterbury Inn, Bob and Sue, go out of their way to make guests feel welcome. They truly want everyone to have the best time in the Woodstock area. The breakfasts they serve each morning are really something to look forward to and enjoy. The food is plentiful and delicious. The inn itself is very comfortable and within walking distance to the picturesque downtown area of Woodstock with many shops and restaurants. There are also many interesting sights to see and do in this beautiful area of Vermont.

All the other reviews are right on the money about this place so I won't repeat a lot of the consensus about this B&B.

I do want to emphasize that Bob and Sue are absolutely delightful hosts and really made us feel welcome and comfortable in their Inn. They are really a cut above the typical couple that you might meet at a B&B. I'd have to say that they win the prize for the best ever innkeepers that you will ever meet. They were both very personable people and spent a lot of time with us and other guests. It was a delight.

My wife is a photographer and we were looking for places to see fall foliage. So it turns out that Sue is a budding photographer too so she and my wife talked a lot about cameras etc. Sue then offered to write up directions for us to follow to see some of the local sites. She actually hand wrote a full day's itinerary for us including driving directions. How tremendous was that??

Bob and Sue Frost are great people who make you feel very comfortable. The breakfast is very tasty and the atmosphere is cozy. They are knowledgeable and have a great memory. The place is within walking distance of downtown so there is now worries about parking.

Recently stayed at this B & B for a wedding weekend in early fall. Comfortable accommodations. Bathrooms small but all that is needed is there and clean as a new penny. Great water pressure and top flight towels. Breakfasts were very good and Hosts, Bob and Sue, are lovely. Within easy walking distance of everything in the village which is a big plus when traffic picks up. Good value for the location.
