You felt the tension sap away the moment we walked into the hotel and it didn't disappoint at any level we arrived for lunch it was great. Service was great from there on. The room was nice and quiet and cool just a short walk to the fantastic pool. When it came to leave the staff helped and didn't rush us, so we stayed for a fantastic paella wow and back on the train.

Thank you Stuart and Max for your very kind words.

I am delighted that we were able to offer you to stay in your room beyond normal check-out time so that you could enjoy a paella before catching the train. Paellas are best eaten at lunchtime in my - and the locals' - opinion. A bottle of Rosado wine, some dappled sunlight under the willow tree ... heaven!

When guests' rooms are needed by our normal check-out time of noon, we also have a small courtesy room which is allocated on a first-come, first-served basis. The room has a shower and loo and means you can change before travelling onwards.

One hour from the tourist inferno of Ronda this fabulous British owners hotel offers peace, spacious clean rooms, a huge cool pool and lots of good vibrations. Stay here at least one night - and remember to have dinner in the excellent restaurant.

Thank you for your taking the time to write this review for us. Some enquiries we receive do not confirm when they realise we are about a few minutes outside the town of Ronda - but you are quite right to point out that there are great advantages to staying with us - nearby in a peaceful spot - if you want to relax and kick back.

Would you be interested in being our Copenhagen sales agent?!!!

The hotel gardens and the terrace are absolutely beautiful, as is the pool area with its lush flower beds and lawns. Unfortunately though, for me, this was the only positive of our stay at this hotel. The actual location of the hotel is not great and please don’t think you’ll be staying in a charming white village because you won’t! This hotel is not in the main village of Benaojan itself, but in Benaojan Estacion, which is nearby and really has nothing to offer there apart from the station. The immediate surroundings of the hotel are not at all attractive. We really wanted to stay at the Molino just to relax and chill out, but found ourselves using it as a base to go to other places.

A plus point is that there is a very picturesque train journey that can be taken from the station right down to the coast and is well worth doing. The trains are, however, very infrequent, but the hotel reception has a timetable.

We had reserved a superior double room which unfortunately did not live up to expectations at all and was vastly over-priced. I hate to think what a standard room is like. Sorry to repeat myself, but it really is not worth the money and is not a superior room. I was extremely disappointed and upset as it was far, far below the standard I had expected. It was very basic and uninviting. The room also had a terrace with two very worn chairs and a table on it. In fact, the furniture in most of the public areas of the hotel, and in particular the lounge, is very old and shabby.

The restaurant also was a complete disappointment. The first night we ate from the set menu and both had to send our main courses back. The restaurant manager was concerned about this and persuaded us to give them a second chance on our second night and not go further afield to eat. We decided that lightning couldn’t strike twice and that we’d give it a go again. How wrong we were! Again, we were bitterly disappointed and neither of us ate our main course. We didn’t even mention it or complain to the staff that night; we were just very disappointed with the hotel and pleased to be leaving the next morning. Breakfast was the same by the way; very lame.

Throughout our stay though, I have to say that the staff, with the exception of one, were charming and tried their best to help.

To sum up, we have travelled extensively and stayed in all types of hotels in all sorts of locations. We live in Andalucia so are well-used to local standards and expectations here. I don’t think, in fact I know, that I have never been so disappointed in a hotel. I cannot for the life of me understand why it receives such rave reviews and it sincerely does not deserve its Certificate of Excellence from Trip Advisor

Room Tip: Sorry, can't help as I wouldn't risk staying here again

I would like to make it clear that this reviewer is the wife of Jack N whose comments are below so these two very disappointing reports refer to just one visit.

I can only reiterate the comments that I made to this lady's husband that of course we are very frustrated when anyone has such negative feelings about aspects of our hotel and restaurant.

We ask all of our guests for feedback via a questionnaire and use these comments to assist us to plan our policies., although many people say things like "Please don't change a single aspect ", "This is a Very Special Place " - as well as all of the hugely complimentary things that people feed back on Trip Advisor. Nowhere is perfect though and we do take all constructive comments very seriously and use them to influence our planning decisions as we work to ensure that we offer the best possible experience to our guests.

It is a source of great pride to the whole team at Molino del Santo that every year we provide many hundreds of people with a wonderful experience which they repeat regularly and recommend to their friends. 70% of people visiting the hotel this year have been before - some of them very many times.

Evidently these guests chose the wrong hotel for their requirements and we are very sorry about that. However we do not believe it is chance that we have been awarded a Travellers' Choice award for every one of the last five years based on the feedback from a huge number of visitors.

Based on our experience the hotel does not deserve trip advisor certificate of excellence rating. The food in the restaurant was very bad, breakfast was a disgrace the fried egg container had about a dozen eggs all broken with yolk all over the place.
On our first night we both sent our main course back, the second was the same although we did not return the main courses as it was my wife's birthday and we did not want to spend the evening complaining ( what a disappointment )
On check out the hotel receptionist showed no interest and could not be bothered to read our comments sheet.
The hotel puts news letters on every available space blowing their own trumpet to the point of arrogance.
The room was sold as a superior double that is was not we have travelled extensively and would not expect to pay 168 euro for a small room without a TV
We would not recommend them to anyone and would do our best to dissuade our friends from going to this over priced and over rated. Hotel.

It is of course very disappointing for us to receive a review like this. It is difficult to accept that we can not please all of our guests all of the time no matter how hard we try but it is the reality of our trade.

All of our staff are fully committed to providing an excellent service although we are human and we do make some mistakes. Whenever this happens we do all we can to rectify the errors at the time if it is within our power. Some issues of course are subjective. The guest who wrote "Wonderful Weekend" below stayed the week before in the same room as this reviewer and wrote nothing but positive things about it.

We do try to be totally honest on our website - why wouldn't we be? - and we do state that we provide neither televisions nor radios in the hotel. This review is useful in alerting us to the fact that we need to make this more prominent and thus appeal to the vast majority of your visitors who are delighted to escape TVs and the news for a few days. We are also reviewing our breakfast service as I type and we are very grateful for the feedback which can only serve to help us to consider ways to improve the experience for our highly-valued guests.

I have been in contact with the customers directly to offer my sincere regrets that we did not meet their expectations.

My wife and I have returned from another wonderful stay at the Molino, we have been so well treated in the past that we approached the trip with trepidation. When we told our friends Allan and Sandra that we were returning they insisted on joining us as they did on our last trip. We were wondering if the standard was still there! We were welcomed by Jose at reception as if we were the owners. The room was excellent and the food was even better than we remembered. The service was professional but informal with just the right amount of friendliness. We were celebrating our wedding anniversary and we plan to return every year ( and a few times in between) A memorable stay, thank you Andy and Pauline, and Eddie. John and Fiona Mijas Costa Spain.

Room Tip: Try the superior rooms, they are a little larger. We had no noise from the A/C at all. The rooms are quiet as is the hotel.

Dear John and Fiona,

It is always so rewarding to have such lovely comments from returning guests which we all really appreciate. Eddie - the hotel dog - was very pleased to meet you too and looks forward to welcoming you back as do Pauline, the staff and myself.

Hasta Pronto
