“Lovely, quiet location.”
Reviewed 20 October 2013

We recently stayed here for two nights. Room was lovely and whole place is full of character. Philip was extremely knowledgable about local walking routes and gave us some good ideas and tips. He was also very helpful in booking onward accommodation for us. Pool was clean and refreshing. Nice breakfast selection. Dinner was good, but limited menu (as to be expected in a rural place). There is also a room with a pool table which was great for our teenage kids.

We stayed for 2 nights and found that the rooms were very clean, the superior room is spacious. Being an English owner you are even provided with tea and coffee facilities in your bedroom. Excellent location for watching birds/ bats by the small river, Griffon vultures over the nearby hills and it is very near to Ronda - a 15 minute drive. We ate at the hotel on our first night and had an excellent 3 course meal with lovely homemade pate and deserts. We only didn't eat there on our second night as we wanted to see Ronda in the evening. Philip is a wonderful host and gave us a map and directions for a walk near Grazelema/ provided an excellent recommendation for our evening meal in Ronda. Only negative for us was that the bed in the superior room is exceptionally hard, but if this doesn't bother you then I would definitely recommend the hotel.

This English owned hotel has maintained its rustic Spanish charm. Although the owners were away and the restaurant closed we were offered a meal in the evening,( It would have been nice to know this in advance.) We were made very welcome and given an upgrade room overlooking the river. Absolutely fantastic for birdwatchers, the bedroom window gave us great birds from first thing in the morning until last thing at night right next to the river. Lovely walks in both directions along the river directly from the hotel.Breakfast ( cold meats, cheese, cereals and cheese) was very good and served by a charming, friendly Spanish lady. We ate each evening at the venta/cafe across the road from the hotel which was good basic fayre and reasonably priced. Our first impression of this hotel on arrival was that it needed some tlc in the gardens, outdoor furniture maintenance, etc. but this place grew on us. We were comfortable, and despite the broken furniture by the pool (which was spotlessly clean) and, torn dirty cushions. We loved our stay and would return. Be warned that the river is not very wide and on the other side of it is the railway track. Not a busy railway but pretty noisy a couple of times during the night with freight trains passing.

Room Tip: I would recommend this hotel but tell people in short," great location if you dont mind the few...

The hotel is quite hard to find look for the little sign at the end of the drive. Very clean basic accomodation, with large bathroom and bedrooms, satalite TV and coffee and tea facilities in the room we did not use the Heated swiming pool! (why only 2*?). Packed lunches available and very good continental breakfast, Various Hams, cheese, fruite, jams, cereal with coffee or tea. We had evening meal twice while we stayed and both times realy enjoyed the local food, with local wines of good value and quality. Isa the manager was fantrastic although she spoke little english was always concerned that we were enjoying ourselves and ensured Anna Marie (ex uk) who worked only one day spoke to us regularly to confirm every thing was fine. Isa also telephoned restaurants she had recomended to ensure we were acomodated good recomendations. The Hotel is situated on two trails with river terases and 15 minutes walk from Benaojan Train station the owner Philip is a keen walker and has written about 30 walking routes 10 from the hotel, because of close proximity to the train station straight walks using the train for returns can be planned as well as the circular walks, there is a published book of 30 short walks available for the area as well. Stunning countryside and once on the tops views of Ronda (12km away) Benaojan and Montejaque are stunning TAKE YOUR BOOTS. There is so much to do in the area, The mediterainian rain forrest, Prehistoric cave drawings, caving, climbing (trad), mountain biking, walking and beautiful white towns, similar to Ronda all with friendly people. Only a couple of down sides WiFi unpredictable, mobile coverage sketchy, so what! and although a settee in Reception the only other area is sitting on the terrace watching the fish in the river and local wild life. or in the Bar. We are looking to go back for a 2 to 3 week stay, as in 4 days we only scratched the surface recomended March to May Sept to November .

Room Tip: All rooms look onto the court yard some have their own balconies

A beautiful clean hotel in a historic old mill along the river. The perfect antidote to the craziness of busy Spanish cities! We spent 3 glorious days walking through the countryside (not even the rain dampened our spirits). Philip is a wonderful host and was very patient with all our questions about the walks. Issa is an absolute joy at the hotel and made our stay very special (and Xena the puppy too!).

We stayed three nights and loved the beautiful atmosphere of the little stream that ran by the hotel. We dined there two nights and the setting was gorgorous with tables by the stream. You felt like it was not overdone and so commericial like other hotels in the town.

Phillip, the owner, was so very nice. He picked us up from the Benajan train station and when he found out that we couldn't get a train on the time we were wanting, he drove us to Ronda. (we did pay for the gasoline, which was only right)...right to our front steps of our b&b. What service.

The rooms were clean and we loved the pool. The mountains are right there and the pool has a little beer/wine area (also sodas) that you check your mark...(the honor system.) I would definately go back and also have dinner there.

Dining by the little stream is magical!! Great food also. Nice breakfast with fruits, muffins, toast and etc. very good. Included in the price.

We hike on different days and that is a beauty in itself. Just take water with you. Quite an experience and we could do it. We are 69 and 70 (but in shape.) Yes, Yes, Yes. Loved it.Go there.

Room Tip: It was just the two of us and are room was clean and suited us very well. All rooms would be good.

We moved here after a grim experience in another hotel, and were delighted with the friendliness and helpfulness of the staff here. It's a nice location by the river. We enjoyed the food in the restaurant and there are pleasant terraces where you can sit and watch the river and wildlife. Nice local walks and less than 15 mins from the middle of Ronda.

Room Tip: The apartment (room 3) is well equipped and spacious.
