“A relaxing rural retreat”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 12 January 2013

We very much enjoyed our stay (again) - if you are looking for a quiet rural getaway, away from the hustle and bustle of the beachside hotels this is perfect. Great walks (or runs if feeling keen) and very well placed for day trips. Cristobel and Isabella ensure a very warm and friendly welcome and after that it is very much up to you as to what you want from your holiday. The village is also very welcoming and friendly though not for those seeking lively nightlife. Hopefully back again soon.

Poolside apartments gave us fantastic location for visiting the area around Ronda. Kids enjoyed pool and apartments were very good and had everything you need for self catering. The staff were very friendly and helpful. Village of Montejaque is in a stunning location with views of the surrounding mountains from the high view point - well worth the wee walk. The food in the village hotels and restaurants was simple but good and we found something to satisfy our fussy kids most of the time. The local shops supply everything you need and collecting fresh bread in the morning became a good opportunity to try Spanish with the very friendly local shopkeepers. We loved Ronda and visited the local caves to see the paleolithic cave paintings and to swim in the lagoon at Cueva del Gato. All in all we had a great holiday and offer thanks to Cristobal and the team for such a warm welcome.

The poolside apartments are lovely. Ours was quite spacious with a separate bedroom. The apartments nicely located within Montejaque so you have some restaurants, the bakery, ATMs, shops within walking distance. Good location to visit Ronda from, as well as other nearby villages (we liked Zahara de la Sierra), Sevilla and Cordoba.

A very good accomodation indeed. It is situated in the heart of the beautiful and friendly village of Montejaque, a 'pueblo blanco' lying in a sheltered mountain valley and surrounded on all sides by impressive Karst rocks. Ideal as a point of departure for Ronda, and also for visiting the many white villages in the neighboring sierras -like Grazalema.

We had a poolside apartment with a rooftop terrace in two levels. The beds are very good (which in our experience is something of an exception in Spanish apartments). The kitchen is fully equipped, with a 4-fold cooking plate and a full-fledged electric oven.

It is really a suprise to enter the small complex through its front door in a narrow village street, and then come into a secluded oasis, with a fine swimming pool in the middle. The complex consists of 9 apartments, all of them different. Ours, nr. 5, was fine.

The Callé family was very friendly and service-minded. When we had difficulty getting the apartment warm the first day, we were supplied with an extra electric heater.

Minor wish: free WiFi would be great to have. A coin-operated PC is a bit behind standards nowadays.

We are just back from our stay in Casas de Montejaque and we really loved it. The cottages around the pool, the friendly atmosphere of the neighbours in the casas and of the locals who nearly all greet you with "Hola," the breathtaking views, the one minute walk to the bakery for fresh pastries each morning. This really is a walkers paradise aswell with amazing views not too far away (although the weather was a bit too warm for too much walking, we had to lie by the pool sometimes!!). The drives we made to Grazalema and Zahara were amazing with the most stunning views, (not for the faint hearted) we went the route via Puerto de las Palomas but you can go another way.

I could go on and on about this place and the surrounding area but enough, we really loved it, had a great relaxing holiday with lovely walks and views of nature and I was genuinely sad to leave.

Oh another tip for a special meal out go to Molino del Santo in Benaojan delish and Restaurant el Muelle on the far end of the train platform is good too.

The cottages are set around a pool and garden courtyard. They are well equipped and cool. Our's had a spacious roof terrace for eating and sun bathing, others had a patio area. The owners were helpful and efficient. The streets nearest the property are very narrow and only a small car can use them, but there is plently of parking minutes away in the lower town. The town itself is quiet and very Spanish. There are plenty of bars and restaurants serving reasonably priced food but no ' nightlife', unless you find a local fiesta. Try El Rincon in the square (excellent tapas @ 1 euro each). Word of warning: the road are good but very winding and need confident drivers and passengers! Ronda is the nearest 'tourist' town and well worth a visit. There is an infrequent ( 3 times daily) railway service from the next village which will get you to Ronda (20 minutes) and Granada (2 hours).

We stayed here for 2 nights after a tour through Andalusia. Although we booked a simple room, the owner gave us a 6-person cottage to use for the 2 days, just outside the actual village, with a full view of the village itself and its surrounding mountains. Serene calm, peace and quiet, and a pool all to ourselves, the perfect place to stay, especially with kids.
Do make sure that you do your (self-catering) shopping in a bigger supermercado in another town before going there, because the 3 tiny shops only offer the very simple basics.
