“Fantastic small hotel in typical Spanish village”
Reviewed 30 April 2012

Such a wonderful mini break for myself, my cousin and my 80 year old mother. We did a lot of research to find the perfect small hotel in a typical Spanish village and were not disappointed. The hotel itself is cute, the rooms comfortable (a twin and a double), lovely lounges, courtyard, restaurant and bar. The food is great as is the service. Michael, the British owner, is helpful, patient and hands on with every aspect. The square outside the hotel seems to be the hub of the village. A few tables in the sun with a nice wine in hand is perfect to watch what goes on. The only downside was the rooms open up to the square so on a night when there is a big football match it can get quite noisy in the square (and the bar next door) and so if you are a light sleeper there wasn't much piece and quiet. That saying I slept through most of it but my 80 year old mother was kept awake. The village itself is very small and sleepy although there are a few different restaurants and bars. The area around the village is spectacularly beautiful and the white villages are amazing (a bit of a driving and parking challenge though!) Rhonda is only a short drive away and well worth visiting.

We stayed here one night whilst walking in the area and can thoroughly recommend it. The British owner was friendly and nothing was too much trouble for him. The room we had was large and overlooked the square where the locals tend to congregate and which provided lots of interest. The hotel has recently had work done on it and it is a blend of modern with a traditional Spanish feel. The area is very beautiful and we thoroughly enjoyed our 24 hours in the village. We ate in the hotel restaurant and the food was very good. There is a pleasant terrace at the back of the hotel with a plunge pool and chairs and tables where you can enjoy a drink or tapas. The owner has only been at the hotel for one year but has made changes which should ensure the success of the hotel - we would recommend this hotel to anyone.

My wife and I stayed at Hotel Montejaque over Christmas 2011. We had never heard of the village nor intended to visit it until it was recommended by someone on a travel blog. It turned out to be the best advice on travel we've ever received.
The owners/management are British, however, they have made every attempt to integrate the hotel into the village lifestyle whilst maintaining creature comforts that most English speaking guests look for. They are extremely friendly and have a deep understanding of what hospitality actually means.
The hotel is perfectly situated on the town square, which allows you to people watch the townfolk as they take in the sun in the square during winter. The rooms are large, clean and comfortable and the service is extremely friendly. The food at the bar/restaurant is excellent and they're also happy to point you in the right direction of the best tapas bars depending on what time of day it is.
The white mountain village is only small with a population of around 1100 people including surrounds but has some amazing views and many recommended walks for the hiking enthusiasts. It is difficult to transpose the beauty and vibe into words, so I won't try. Its something you have to experience for yourself.
The hotel put on a traditional English Christmas lunch, which although was astray from Spanish-village-traditional-experiences, was exceptional. We met many friendly and very interesting characters and had an absolute ball. Recommended to all.

Room Tip: We stayed in Room 3, which had a view over the town square and received great winter sun. Not sure a...

I have recently stayed at this lovely spanish hotel for three nights to get away from the hustle and bustle of a busy city life. I found the staff welcoming and the ambiance conducive to my needs. It is situated on the main square where there is lots going on but if you want a quiet time the patio and pool area is just what you need. The resturant is tastefully decorated but as it was still warm the alfresco resturant was a lovely alternative. The resturant serves nice spanish food but if you just want a light snack the tapas should not be missed.

I had a nice large room overlooking the square with everything I needed available for a traveller who only carries hand luggage. To my delight there was a kettle etc in the room what an unexpected pleasure that was for a southern european hotel yippee!

This is a perfect spot to stay for those who like walking as I do. There are walking maps in the hotel but for those who need a bit more support there is a very helpful information center in the village. The locals are very friendly and eager to assist but it is useful to have a bit of spanish or a spanish phrase book with you. If you have a chance to visit the area you must add this hotel to your itinerary.

Room Tip: Rooms overlooking the square have views of the mountains and room 2 has a balcony.

My partner and I stayed here for 1 night on a short driving holiday in Andalucia.
The hotel is located in the main plaza in a picturesque mountain village near the beautiful town of Ronda.
It is run by a couple of English guys and we found them quite welcoming and friendly. The room we had (3) was quite nice although the bathroom lacked decent towels and there was no toiletries, which was a bit inconvenient as I had only brought hand luggage and no shower gel etc. I think you do expect a bit more when paying 89 Euro's a night.
We liked the patio area with the tiny swimming pool which was very warm and sunny in the daytime and nice for relaxing after a long drive.
The biggest disappointment was the food. We ate are evening meal here and it wasn't very good. We both had Tuna and it's the worst we've had. Overcooked and served with what appeared to be frozen mixed veg and boil in the bag rice. My girlfriend is not a fussy eater and couldn't eat it. There was also no desserts available unless we wanted chocolate ice cream!
Montejaque doesn't really have any other decent restaurants, so this is a great shame and the owners are missing an opportunity here.
The best thing about this hotel is the location. Ronda is beautiful and just a 25 minute drive. We headed back to Seville airport the next day and if you are travelling there, i would recommend taking the drive through Grazalema and Zahara. The scenery is absolutely stunning through the hairpin bends of the mountain roads. Both villages are well worth a visit.

I really enjoyed my stay! Chris and Mia were really friendly and always there making sure you had everything you needed. The food was delicious and went well with the vibrant and relaxed atmosphere.

The room was beautiful and looked out over the typically Spanish village town square.

If you are looking for a walking holiday or just a "relaxation by the pool holiday" this is where to go!
