“Low on Amenities, but the Acura Experience was nice.”
Reviewed 13 June 2011

Came for a weekend.

Pros:
-Complimentary Bliss products in-room.
-Acura Experience provides rides within 2 mile radius. Went to the High Museum of Art and was also picked up later in the evening.
-Elevators are fast!
-Service was great, everyone was very friendly.
-Great location.
-Security - since the elevators were used for people who were there just for the club, the elevator required card access to go to the room floors.
-decor was very nice and modern.
-'Living Room' - 1st floor bar/lounge area had tea/coffee in the mornings as shown in the pictures.
-LOVED the W bed!

Cons:
-Parking onsite was Valet only for $30/night. Other option was to park across the street, it wasn't my preference.
-Low in-room amenities. No complimentary water or snacks.
-Gets a bit loud, you can hear everyone's conversation if they walk by your room.
-No free in-room internet.

Unable to comment:
-gym, swimming pool, didn't get a chance to check it out.
-night club - seemed popular, a lot of people were in the hotel for the club.

I stayed at the W for four days on business having travelled from the UK. I chose the W as I was not just looking to stay at another global brand hotel which is just all the same around the world and was looking for a hotel that was modern and contemporay. I was not disappointed! The W Downtown Atlanta ticked all the right boxes in these areas from the reception, meeting areas to the bedrooms. I just loved the modern design of the bedroom and looked forward to having a great nights sleep in the lovely bed. There was a great choice of complimentary breakfast coffees and teas in the guest meeting area, with the reception refreshments always being refreshed during the whole day which was appreciated after coming out of the heat of Atlanta. The W customer service from all the staff is comparable to what I have experienced with the Ritz-Carlton and Shangri-La hotels in the past, especially the personal service from the manager Alan Rae. If you want something different in Atlanta, be sure to enjoy a stay at the W.

My husband and I stayed here two nights and it was wonderful! The service was fantastic, and the staff couldn't have been more friendly. The valet guys always got our car promptly and were extremely polite and friendly. The room was great --- nice view, clean, great decor. My only complaint is that we kept hearing the loud voices of the girls staying next to us, but we would just turn up the TV and it would drown out the noise from the other room. It didn't bother us too much. We ordered room service one night and the food was pretty good. All the amenities were nice and we used their gym and loved it. I really liked how they always had refreshments in the lobby for the guests --- usually some kind of refreshing water (lemon water, orange water, etc.) and apples or small cookies. A nice touch! Oh, and great complimentary coffee in the mornings! Everything was great. We would definitely stay here again.

Well, where to start. It is a W. You stay here for the cache of it. not because it is an amazing hotel. So lets skip the design flaws which others have covered well. and go into my opinion. the bed is really nice, very comfortable. the room is aesthetically pleasing, and very "cool". Sadly it is very very noisy, so noisy that they have complimentary earplugs in the nightstand. you hear everything! every car, every conversation in the room next door, every tv show playing anywhere near you. The shower is stupid design to the biggest degree. In the single it is clear glass to the bedroom, so if you are with someone expect to watch them shower. The doubles have full frost, but two of my guys had to share a room and you can still silhouettes, and with the open shower one person can not use the toilet or sink without seeing the other naked. so not great for business type travel. housekeeping here is mediocre at best. the room, (and the entire hotel) looks like no one has ever wiped down anything below the 2' level. All my doors, (bathroom, closet) were filthy on the bottom. They housekeeping does not always replace your shampoos and conditioners causing me to run out. I mean we are paying everyday, just restock the amenities. simple you would think. Also my bathroom was repainted at some point, and although the paint was close it didn't match, and they only painted the main part, spending no time painting the edges. So it looks like a bad howard johnsons renovation. The meeting space is decent, stupid design on the lighting, very unfriendly for any type of production, ok for a meeting. The mini bar is the most expensive I have ever seen. (even more then the intercontinental times square and several Ritz Cartlons I've stayed at. $10 for a handful of mini snickers or a bag of m&ms. and 8 for a bottle of fiji. Bare in mind, I always use my mini bar, always. it's part of travelling, but this is so ridiculous I have bypassed it. Location is dismal, there is next to nothing right here. closest set of restaurants and convenience stores are at least .5 miles away and up to 1.5. We are here over memorial Day and staying through the end of the week. As of tuesday night the pool was still absolutely disgusting after memorial day week. it is a small pool, you would have thought they would have cleaned it after the weekend parties, but no. gross. The staff is a mixed bag. Artia checked me in and she was amazing, super friendly and very, very helpful. She belongs at a Westin or somewhere far better then here. other staff have been so so. the banquet staff is amazing and accommodating. Would I stay here again, not on my dollar. well maybe as long as long as it cost less then $100, because I feel that is the value of the room per day. INternet is also very pricey for a decent connection.

My husband and I stayed at the W. Hotel-Downtown Atlanta, GA on Friday 5/27/2011, to celebrate our 2nd year wedding anniversary. We received excellent customer service from everyone! The hotel was absolutely beautiful. The valet was prompt and courteous, and the front desk individual was very pleasant and helpful. The bed was very comfortable, and the room decor was to die for!! I loved it! The view was absolutely the best!!!!!! We did not get a chance to view the pool, due to some storm damage the night before. However, the wet bar was open and available! Overall, WONDERFUL EXPERIENCE!! Thanks goes out to the W Atlanta Downtown, for making our special night so awesome! I highly recommend this hotel.

This hotel seems to be a good case study at how to make something that looks rather pretty but doesn't work very well. Take the bathroom: The sink is a 'modern' design, but incredibly awkward to use. Turn on the flow of water too high and it hits the drain and splashes up at you. The bottom of the sink is flat, so it drains poorly and there's probably a hair or two from a previous occupant of the room sitting in there. In addition there's likely some toothpaste on the outside edge of the sink, because a poorly placed towel rack means you have to lean in way too far to use it.

Run out of toilet paper? The spare roll is sitting on top of the toilet in this cute but very tight bag. The problem is that you have to fight to extract the roll from the clutches of the bag, which is probably the last thing you want to be doing when you need some extra TP.

The bed was comfortable, though the duvet had an oddly plastic feel and some stains of an origin that I wasn't interested in pondering. As others have written, the room's walls are a dark purple color which will force you to use every light switch in the room. Even with every light on and each dimmer switch at the maximum, reading will still be difficult.

There are way too many shiny surfaces in the room, making fingerprints and any other unknown smeared substances on the surface very obvious. I realize that other people have used the room before I rented it, but I can't ever recall being in a hotel room which brought such obvious attention to this fact through its choice of furniture and decoration. Housekeeping definitely needs a far greater attention to detail.

The $14.95 internet connection was slow. There was a more expensive $19.95 option, which I assume was faster, but there was no obvious explanation of the service levels and I thought $14.95 was costly enough. The connection runs for 24 hours and not the "noon to noon" schedule which is listed in all of the hotel literature. Free WiFi is available in the "living room" off of the cramped lobby, and it's full of more furniture that looks nice but isn't terribly comfortable to use. The room's TV was an HDTV with an odd mix of analog and HD content.

There's not a lot of interest in the immediate vicinity of the property, but there is a decent restaurant at the hotel, a pizza place across the street, and a MARTA station ("Civic Center") a little further beyond that.

This hotel was certainly unique, but for me it was a uniqueness that I found to be quite undesirable. Better housekeeping could certainly improve the experience.
