The St Regis in Atlanta is beautiful--arguably the nicest in Atlanta. I imagine most of the rooms are similarly well equipped, aside from size, but be sure to clarify what your room will be looking over when you check in. Ours looked directly across to the garage next door. It wasn't a busy weekend at all, and I'm sure there were a lot of better rooms available. As it turned out, it was the most expensive room with a garage view I've ever stayed in. That was just the beginning. We were told to call down ahead for our car whenever we needed it. Twice, it was not there, even with ample notice--and again, the hotel was not busy at all. It was apparent that valet service never got the notices. Twice again, there was no shampoo/conditioner available in the bath in the morning--once we asked for more (they brought a small tube of each to the room) and the next time we simply made do without. There was something wrong with the TV installed--it would pixelate a lot, especially if the weather was bad, which would also knock out the clock radio. Also, we left one morning about 9:30, left the "Clean Room" light on outside, and returned 5 hours to an unmade room, again on a very slow weekend. Turn down service was erratic. After returning from dinner one night about 9:00, the room was the same. Not that it mattered--I don't really care that much about turn-down service, but then turn down service showed up after we had settled in. The hotel hypes their afternoon tea quite a bit, but given how beautiful the place is, the area for the tea service, overlooking the lobby, isn't all that great and the goodies not that.....good--and the cost for a truly marginal tea-for-two? Over $100 with the tip. Overhyped and overvalued.
The St Regis prides itself on its properties, as well it should be because they are beautiful spaces, but service has a long way to go in places like Atlanta before it can begin to compare itself to a place like the Four Seasons, which has always been my preferred hotel group in the past, and given this experience, will continue to be.
