“Not impressed”
Reviewed 12 August 2014

This was my first time staying at the W and I was excited from looking at the pictures on the website. Upon check in we were given a room that was not cleaned. One day our room was not cleaned and had to call and request it. After about 30 minutes had to go to the front desk because we had an engagement to attend with no clean towels to shower. The guests at the hotel were very loud and talking in the hallways at 4:00am. I won't be staying here again.

Hotel is located a block from Peachtree St and next to Piedmont Park, so great location. Check-in service was a bit unprofessional, the guy manning the front desk seemed to be more interested in talking to the ladies walking by than checking me into my room. The room was clean, had upscale decor and large floor to ceiling windows ... but upon closer inspection, there were scratches on the furniture, chipped tiles in the bathroom, etc. Although the hotel is clearly targeting the 'trendy' market, the clientele wasn't quite so ... I found them to be more loud and obnoxious (not the hotel's fault by any means ... but something to consider when booking this hotel). Checkout was fine, however, it took 3 calls to Starwood to credit the points for my stay ... which they said the hotel's billing dept could only do and they'd sent 2 previous requests to them before it went through the third time. I don't think I'll be coming back to this property.

While the hotel staff was courteous and friendly at check-in, gave less attention addressing in room snack/beverage bar problem. Informed desk and whenever whatever line of missing inventory list for bar. After waiting, decided to go to front desk for inventory list, receive his marked-up used one (none other available at the time). Informed young lady on whenever whatever line of missing items and requested items replaced. After returning home, we notice (via online receipt) being charged for items (reported at hotel) in which we did not consume, so, kudos to hotel for returning charge back to card expeditiously. Room seemed clean minus the snack wrappers (found during inventory list search) behind desk/bar unit. It had a club-like atmosphere from the reception area to the room, felt more like a hotspot for a young and “hip” contemporary crowd. The bedroom area with its black painted wooden built-ins and the colorful flower back splash behind the desk and on each side of the bed continued the “chic” theme. I didn’t like the darkness / low lighting of the room, but it did allow a view out the floor to ceiling window. Hallway had noisy people at different times of the late night; don’t know if this was from a big event or just the party atmosphere. I think $32.00 a day is a little steep for valet parking. If you prefer a sophisticated, traditional classic style hotel then this club-like contemporary hotel probably isn’t your cup of tea.

Have stayed at this w hotel a few times over the past 2 years. Unfortunately it seems to be getting worse every time I stay. The main problem with this hotel is the quality of the rooms rundown and shabby from the room decor to the poor quality bedding the topper used on the bed was so old that only feather storks were left inside, like sleeping on straw. 3 out of 4 pillows on the bed had blood on them (no pillow protector) . The rooms are dark and rather dusty and almost depressing to be in,the staff are pleasant but seem almost unhappy to be there . Would not stay at this W if I had a choice as it falls well below fellow W hotels.

Upon check in, the staff were so friendly and even sent a decent bottle of wine to our room when she learned I was there to celebrate my birthday. The lobby and front entrance with its water feature are just lovely.
Parking: An alternative to the $35 Hotel Valet is the parking garage directly next to the hotel which offers overnight parking.
Food: You really don’t need to leave this hotel. The complimentary coffee (in the mornings) is very good as well as the spa water which is available at all times. Room service has decent food and pricing, there is a new restaurant (Trace) along with a few fast food places within the food court attached to the hotel. Whiskey Park nightclub is always hopping. Even with the locals! Living Room Lounge with drinks and you can even purchase a cigar.
Pool: The pool was clean with a few beach balls thrown in. Cabanas for rent with grey goose bottle service for I think about $300 a day? But my favorite were the two little cozy corners of couches for sun bathing and quiet. Towel set up available and a small poolside menu with drinks as well.
Room: (9th floor) I will agree as other reviewers have stated that the rooms are quite worn. The carpet had a funny smell and the bathroom door looked almost destroyed and certainly off track. A couple of burned out light bulbs and the dresser was scratched.

We love this location but as Starwood Members I think we will try a different Atlanta W Hotel with hopes it has been maintained.

Enjoyed my time here on a business trip. The staff was very accomodating, bed was cozy, room was comfortable, nicely set up to be able to work. Enjoyed the food in the restaurant more than the room service; definitely worth going down to the restaurant to eat. I would have gladly moved in for a month or two.

We stayed at the W Atlanta Midtown for 3 nights so we could take our family to see the Atlanta sights (Georgia Aquarium, Coke Museum, CNN, ect). Midtown is definitely the place to stay-- there are many restaurants within walking distance and plenty of things to do. I would much rather stay in Midtown than Downtown, since practically everything shuts down at 5:00pm Downtown. We are SPG Gold members, and we have always wanted to stay at a W, and it was the only Starwood hotel in Midtown, so now was the time. It is definitely different than any other hotel experience, and isn't for everyone. Techno music plays everywhere, and it is definitely for the "younger luxury/business" crowd. Albeit, it is very modern with modern art everywhere, which is our taste. Being there with a family, we felt a little out of place, but we were never looked at or treated like we shouldn't be there. Just be prepared what you are getting yourself into-- and it's not necessarily a bad thing.
The hotel has also come up with names for common places in the hotel. The lobby is the "living room", the pool is "WET", the fitness room is called "FIT", and the elevator is called the "lift". You be the judge as to whether it's cute, neat, innovative, ridiculous, or strange.
We were checked in promptly, however we didn't get to choose our SPG Gold gift, which is normally free points, free WiFi, or complimentary alcoholic drinks. They just gave us the drinks, which required a purchase of something else! Our room, a "Spectacular Double" showed a few signs of wear, but it was modernly decorated and clean. However, we had used soap and a shower that didn't work! The shower was promptly fixed the next day, so we thank Dexter for getting it done. Something else interesting to note is that there is no coffee maker in the room-- only booze. For coffee, you need to go to the lobby, or "living room", (which only has coffee at certain times of the day) which is a bit strange. Put the booze in the lobby and give me coffee for my room.
One thing we especially love at the hotel was the shower/bath products-- they're Bliss brand. They smell awesome and just request extras from the maid by writing a quick note and leaving a tip. If you really want more Bliss products or want a massage, there is a Bliss spa on the bottom level.
The hotel restaurant-- Trace-- kind of turns in to a party scene at night, so stay away from that if you don't feel like being in a party atmosphere. But based on all the people there, it must be a good restaurant. We only ate there for breakfast which was pretty good. We took advantage of the Acura Experience drop-off service, which will drop you off anywhere within 5 miles of the hotel. Then you can either work out with the driver how to get back or just take a taxi back like we did.
The bottom line: it's a different hotel experience. It's definitely aimed for the younger crowd, and you may feel a bit out of place if you aren't apart of that crowd. But if you like modern art and don't mind standing out a bit, then the W Midtown is a nice choice in a great location.
