We were at the symphony hall for the OAKE annual conference performance. The acoustics are quite good, air conditioning did not keep up with the heat load, but generally a very good hall.

Particularly under Spano and Runnicles this is an orchestra any city would be proud of. If you're visiting during their season you really MUST visit one of Atlanta's great attractions.

The Atlanta Symphony Orchestra is a jewel. both Donald Runnicles and Robet Spano have raised the bar on performance to world class. The chorus is just icing on top. Even the cheap seats are worth the price!

The venue is small enough to be intimate, although the acoustics are not world-class. Our last visit was outstanding, Fingal's cave was well performed by the orchestra, under the direction of a last-minute replacement conductior, who had been unknown to me previously (Thierry...??) and the guest violinist , Ms Hahn (whom I had not known before) was a superb interpreter of the Danish composer, Neilsen) was as splendid an artist as she was attractive. The second part of the program presented the most stirring rendition of Tchaikovsky's Fifth that I have ever heard and our conductor gave the most athletic performance I have ever seen on any orchestral podium

I love the Symphony Hall, great space, great sits, great accustics, great lobby. However, as much as people in Atlanta hails their performing arts groups, I find the level of musicians and the orquestra mediocre, and far from the standards of the big american Cities Orquestras....such as Chicago Simphony and Cleveland Orquestra. Its time for Atlanta to understand that facilities are not everything.
