“Sky Train Connects This Hotel With The Airport”
Reviewed 10 January 2014 via mobile

Our family stayed for two nights in this hotel while in Atlanta. We picked it because of its close proximity to the airport. It is connected to the airport by sky train. It's only a two minute free ride. Nice to not need to pay for a taxi. You can use it when arriving at the hotel and leaving as well. Very convenient when travelling with kids and luggage. The AAA/CAA rate was reasonable and included breakfast buffet. Buffet had a nice selection and nice servers. All staff at the hotel were very friendly which made for a pleasant stay! We ate two dinners at Champions sports bar and restaurant. Good food and good selection. A little pricey though. Another reason we picked this hotel is because of the large indoor swimming pool. It was very large and had huge windows surrounding it. It was really cool to see the large planes taking off and landing while swimming! It's the busiest airport in the world, so you can see planes every two minutes. But no need to worry about noise because our room was very quiet.
Overall great hotel!

I booked a room and paid for a breakfast for my daughter and her husband who were returning from their honeymoon. When I booked the room, I pre-paid for breakfast for them so they wouldn't have to incur any expenses. They had to leave for the airport before the breakfast buffet was going to be served so I called the hotel and was told that they could have room service might be able to bring them breakfast in the morning. When they arrived at the hotel, they were told by the front desk manager that there was nothing that could be done and basically said, "Too bad". I called and spoke to the manager and he was one of the rudest people I have ever spoken too. There was absolutely no customer service in his dealing with me. Finally, after about 20 minutes of "discussing" the issue with him, he reluctantly gave my daughter and husband a $25 credit that they could use for breakfast. Sounds reasonable, right? For $25 they could get a bagel and juice since the surcharge for room service is so high. So much for prepaying for breakfast, which was a buffet and offered more than one bagel and a glass of juice. The hotel was fine, but don't have a problem there, because at this hotel, the customer is never right!

Just stayed at the Marriott Gateway on business and was very impressed. The lobby is very modern and the room I had on the 4th floor was quiet and super clean with all the needed amenities. Champions bar is a great place to grab a burger and beer and the conference room we used was comfortable and pleasant. Overall I really enjoyed the Marriott Gateway.

If you enjoy very clean accommodations, the Marriott brand and all that represents, very friendly staff, then this is a great choice! Price was in line with national brand, but the friendliness of the staff makes it a great choice.

Room Tip: The higher the floor, the better. Business travelers need quiet and they accommodate this need.

We stayed at this hotel because we had a morning flight on Jan 1 - we checked in on Dec 31 - very friendly, polite staff. Amazingly fast check in as others have noted. Our room was clean, great hair dryer, nice sheets and pillows, coffee maker in the room and a small fridge (which is usually a noise maker, but this one was very quiet). The hallways are wide and brightly lit which was very welcoming. There is a small snack store on the first floor, I peeked in but did not need anything, but good to know for future. The gym was huge and the pool looked like a great place to hang out - too bad we did not have our bathing suits. One thing I have to say is that the bath tub is EXTREMELY slippery - BE CAREFUL. We checked out around 8 so did not have any issues with housekeeping, except we only had 1 full size bath towel - plenty in the gym so we just picked up a few there. Not sure of the value, we used our Marriott points to pay.

Room Tip: Always try to stay on a top floor so you don't have to hear anyone above you.

The reason this rating is so high is because of the way the staff treated us. While the room/beds/baths are typical Marriott, the staff was amazing. We were greeted by two doormen who were as friendly as could be (and we looked pretty bad, so it's not as if they thought we were folks who they should be extra good to). Then we had the joy of seeing Josiah at the front desk. Friendly, fast, welcoming - just a great introduction to the place. (He's probably not even there any more with his wonderful attitude.) Later that evening we went to Champions Restaurant to grab something to go so we could eat in the room. Liz waited on us and was so very helpful. They got part of the order wrong initially, so she made a point of giving us a dessert at no charge to make up for it. I picked this place primarily because of the airport tram service and was SOOOOO HAPPY we did!!! There is simply no easier way to get from a hotel to the airport. It's amazing! Next time we're flying in/out of Atlanta, there is no question we'll be staying here.
