“The Story of God by Give Us Brains”
Reviewed 5 December 2012

For the next couple of weekends, the Story of God will be shown at the Shakespeare Tavern in Atlanta. This is not a Christmas play, but is an irreverent, very funny view of God and three of her angels dealing with humans. If you have a sense of humor, this is not to be missed.

“Amazing Shakespeare you understand!”
Reviewed 21 November 2012

Shakespeare you can understand! The characters aren't reciting - they are living the various roles. So you get it! Going to the Shakespeare tavern one begins to understand why commoners and elites both attended in Shakespeare's time. The atmosphere is casual, Actors interact with the audience. A limited reasonably priced menu is available including beer and wine. The food is of good quality. If you plan to eat, know that the kitchen closes a few minutes before the performance but you can still nibble quietly .We attended a performance of Titus Andronicus Nov 17th that was outstanding! It will end soon to be followed by the very popular Dickens " The Christmas Carol"
We saw it last year and plan to go again. Though I have seen and watched "The Christmas Carol" many times- last year I was really moved by the message. In summary even if you are a little intimidated by Shakespeare you will find yourself surprised and amazed.

“A Great Experience”
Reviewed 19 November 2012

The theatre is very cozy, with an informal stage and tables surrounding the stage. We bought balcony tickets, which were cheaper. They serve hearty, good but simple food, such as Shepherd's pie, with beer and wine. The food and the tickets were reasonably priced, and the ambiance in the theatre was very Shakespearean. But the acting was superb! We were very drawn into the drama by the wonderful cast. I had never been to a Shakespearean play before, and was a bit intimidated because I thought it would be difficult to follow. Not so! The actors had us on the edge of our seats waiting for the resolution. Overall, a winner!

I loved the show, and the food was amazing. Make sure you try the apple crumble for dessert! It's a great time whether you're a Shakespeare buff or not.

“Always a treat”
Reviewed 11 November 2012

The Shakespeare Tavern is one of our favorite places in Atlanta. The acting is professional, and invites in the audience to be part of the play. The plays are rated on a "bardometer" so that one can know how difficult the play is going to be to understand for someone who isn't as familiar with Shakespeare with others. This time we saw The Complete Works of Shakespeare, which was absolutely hilarious! The food is OK, and the actors accessible. Very enjoyable evening.
