“The bard would himself would enjoy a night out here.”
Reviewed 13 February 2014

We drove to Atlanta from Valdsota for opening night of "Much Ado About Nothing". We arrived early to pick up our balcnony seat tickets; balcony is 'first come' seating. When we entered the thratre, we were pleasantly suprised to see that there really was not a bad seat in the house. We chose our seats and then went to the kitchen serving area to choose get our food. There were four of us in our group, and each of us tried something different. The descriptions on their menu on their website are quite accurate, so I won't describe the food. I can only tell you that everything that I tasted myself was very good. I tried the Bread Basket (split with my wife), tasted my wife's Cornish Pasty, and I got the King's Dinner Sandwich. They have a great selection of "malt beverages", as well. An interesting note: the creative director was also walking about the tavern greeting and speaking with people; he was also bussing tables!

The play was acted VERY professionally. The stage, the costumes, direction - all aspects made for a great show! The cast was amazing. Beatrice and Benedik were, of course, the 'stars' of the show, but EVERYONE gave dedicated, passionate performances. Outstanding were Don John who was captured as a brooding jealous brother and the head of the guards who was tremendously entertaining.

This was the first of what the first of what we hope will be many trips to Atlanta to go to this wonderful playhouse.

“Excellent actors!”

This is a pub that hosts Shakespeare plays. We saw Timon of Athens. It was a tremendous show. While we did not order food, many people were and it did look delicious.

“Great performance, come early for the meal.”
Reviewed 25 January 2014

The performance will be more memorable than the meal. But, when you arrive early for your meal, you get a better seat and time to just unwind and open up for the evening to come. The Shakespearean English can be a challenge in the early going. But, you will be helped out by a cast that throws itself into the play and can bring the house down with a gesture. The Taming of the Shrew had us in tears (of laughter). The food is simple and fairly priced. The cure for lukewarm tea? Ask the staff to toss out your first cup of hot water after it has warmed up the substantial mug. Then start over with a hot mug and hot water = hot tea.

“Go. Just go. Always a great show!”

The Shakespeare Tavern is a gym. It doesn't look like much from the outside, but once inside, you see the charm. The actors are talented and perform with passion. This place has been there for years and never fails to do an amazing job with all performances. Have a treat in the kitchen. They have a great selection of dark beer and make terrific soups and sandwiches. If you are in the mood for a little southern culture after, head over to Gladys Knight's Chicken and Waflles literally two doors down! Can't miss the Tavern.

“Wonderful evening out”
Reviewed 4 January 2014 via mobile

We watched a delightful production of A Christmas Carol at the tavern shortly before Christmas 2013. Although the necessity of parking across the street can be cumbersome (you have to cross a busy street to get to the theatre), the food and beer available inside makes it more than worth your while. We enjoyed every minute, even from our perch on the balcony (you can also sit at tables below). Highly recommended. We will be back.
