My husband and I stumbled on 5th Ivory without even knowing it was a bar and restaurant. From the outside, it may not instantaneously look like much. At first, it looks like you grandma's house with it's wrap around porch and traditional home charm. This was enough to intrigue us to enter. I am so glad we did! What a hidden gem of midtown Atlanta.
First if all, I have to give a huge shout out to Cam, the head bartender and waitress who runs the place. She is as down to earth and sweet as you can get. She will make you feel at home.
Although 5th Ivory specializes in a classic throw back feel to when side cars were the drink of choice and piano players ruled the scene, it is contemporary and fresh. Nothing about the place is pretentious. The cliental is a mix of young and old. This bar has a different live piano player every night, making the place soothing for a drink with you partner or an event with friends. The bar area takes up the downstairs area while the restaurant is upstairs. This is perfect for a quiet dinner, and then a chance to mingle after.
The food: hands down among the best southern food I have had. The menu has an assortment of salads, sandwiches, and southern favorites, but the fried chicken and chicken pot pie stand out. The prices are extremely reasonable ($7 to $10 for most entrees) and the dessert choices just seal the deal.
If you are looking for a quiet night out with an elegant piano backdrop, great drinks and delicious food at a reasonable price, 5th Ivory is a must try. Just a humble and amazingly relaxing joint in the center of midtown.
