“One Night Away from Home”
Reviewed 30 August 2011

My husband I just celebrated our newborn's 2 month birthday. With her finally being able to sleep, we decided to share her with the grandparents and have a night away from home as a treat. Since we didn't want to go too far we took advantage of a groupon deal and stayed in town at the Ellis hotel. Valet parking was convenient and hassle free. We were pleased from the moment we arrived to the time we departed. The staff was exceptional. The rooms were beautifully decorated and clean. We enjoyed dinner, a wine tasting, and breakfast in the hotel restaurant. It was a wonderful night on the town and the venue did not disappoint.

Room Tip: Ask for a room high up to enjoy the Atlanta view

This reminds me of a New York hotel. The rooms are smaller because the building is older, but they are sleek and modern. I highly recommend the women's floor if you are traveling alone and female. Staff is very responsive. The Terrace Dining Room has excellent local sourcing and great food. Dinner on the balcony feels a little New Orleans-like. Ritz Carlton is right across the street. The valet guys are terrific too. This will be a place I will come back to when I'm on business in Atlanta.

The Ellis was our first stop in the US after a long flight from Holland. I'm glad we booked this hotel and treated ourselves to a deluxe room. The room was spacious, tastefully decorated and the bed very comfortable. However, I wouldn't describe it as a boutique hotel. It was quite generic...
The hotel has a good location. It's in walking distance from main attractions like the Coca Cola museum, the Georgia Aquarium and the CNN building. There's all so some restaurants (like Hard Rock Cafe) down the street.
I would like to especially mention the great service of the personnel. Very friendly and extremely helpful!
Cons: parking is expensive! You pay 23 dollars a day for valet at the hotel, which we found too expensive. So we parked ourselves in the garage down the street, but ended up paying almost the same. Absolutely ridiculous, especially because you only pay 15 dollars for a lost parking ticket!
Another con for us was that there was no fridge in the room. I think there should always be one in a deluxe room.
But all in all would recommend the place!

Room Tip: treat yourseleve and go for the deluxe room

My wife and I stayed there for two nights and loved the hotel, accoomodations and location. The king bed was soft and comfortable. The bathroom and amenaties looked and felt modern and first class. Our room was quiet and had a great TV and channel lineup than what I'm used to at a hotel.

The hotel is within walking distance from the aquarium, Coca Cola and many great restaurants. All of the staff always asked how we were doing which was a very nice touch. Valet parking is an added expense but well worth it for the convenience.

I plan to stay here again and not look at any other hotels when I go back to Atlanta. refrigerator did not come in the room but I was informed that they were available upon request.

Room Tip: Online prices through other websites will save you about $20/night off what you would get booking th...

One of the reasons we chose the Ellis was because the restaurant is advertised as excellent with local organic offerings. When arriving for breakfast on Saturday (and inviting two guests because of the good reputation!) we were extremely disappointed with a very mediocre buffet to be kind. It contained fruit that looks like every other inexpensive buffet, food and coffee that were bland and lukewarm and no vegetarian options except the cool scrambled eggs and potatoes. When asking if there was a menu option we were told by the manager that when the hotel is full, they are too busy to do anything but a buffet (even the coffee is "self serve"). The reputation of the hotel would do well to require more of its restaurant.

Room Tip: Nice light in the corner rooms and quiet on upper floors

We really loved staying at the Ellis Hotel. The junior suite was really nice and private. The space was very boutique, and the staff/hotel employees were superb. We are now planning to have our wedding and reception at this wonderful hotel. We cannot imagine staying at another hotel EVER in Atlanta. It is close to downtown attractions and the valet service is totally convenient. I would definitely recommend this hotel to anyone. The business center was wonderful and quaint. We just dont have any complaints at all.

Room Tip: For comfort and adequate room space, stay in the junior suite.
