“Light on Chain Hotel Amenities but Heavy on Value and Location”
Reviewed 7 February 2012

I am a big proponent in knowing what you getting in to and enjoying it for what it is. This hotel doesn't sell itself as something it is not. The rooms are old, the furniture a little worn, the pipes exposed but they are clean. The Wi-Fi, Continental breakfast and parking are included when given the low room rates, makes it a spectacular value.

The enormous selling point to me is the location. I was lucky enough to have a corporate apartment in the Highland Park area for several months and I fell in love with it. There are lots of great places to eat and drink within walking distance. It is a hop skip and a jump to the freeways and downtown and there is a great cross fit gym around the corner. There is also a super hipster lounge/venue downstairs-more Brooklyn than Atlanta-with a fun karaoke night on Thursday.

Just know what to expect and enjoy the neighborhood!

I booked this hotel based on other reviews on this site and others, and I was NOT disappointed! The room was clean and comfortable, but could use a little paint here and there. The staff was very friendly and the location was EXCELLENT. I loved the Little 5 Points neighborhood, which was in easy walking distance.

The charm of this hotel was walking up the stairs to the entry way. Beyond that..well...it was clean. The room was smaller than most hotel rooms. The bathroom was very clean and was the highlight of the stay. However, under the old carpet next to the bed there were several spots that felt like the floor would give way when walking. There was noise from what I assume was the pipes in the wall "clanking" all night long...off and on. To add to that, were people above us on the next floor walking back and forth making the ceiling creek at all hours of the night. On both sides of our hotel room we could here 1) a lady on a cell phone 2)dresser drawers being opened and closed 3) Doors in the hallway being slammed. This was all night long! Add to it a bed that resembled a concrete slab and you have the makings of very little sleep. Be warned!

My daughter and I enjoyed our overnight stay with you. Room was very clean and quiet. The continental breakfast was just what we needed. Very convenient to restaurants.

We stayed the first time at the Highland Inn several years ago when we were attending a concert at the Variety Playhouse & didn't want to drive 70 miles home afterward. We were a little dubious to start with...they were in the process of renovating and upgrading and it wasn't putting it's best foot forward. But we have since stayed there many times and it is excellent. Yes, the rooms are old and as such a little different. But they are clean, comfortable, and well-amenitized, especially for the price & location. Where else in a nice, walking part of Atlanta can you get a room with 2 double beds, TV, mini-fridge, and breakfast for about $120? Nowhere!

There are lots of delightful shops and restaurants in walking distance - we like Manuel's Tavern for dinner, or the Vortex for a great burger. Nightlife is close by, and to go further afield, taxi service is readily available. The staff is great about working with you regarding early check-ins, special requests, etc. The continental breakfast is better than many chain motels, and there is a cute little "roof garden" for you smokers.

We now stay there anytime we go to a Braves game, Falcons game, concert at the Fox or the Variety, and always have a great experience. It's nice to see a piece of Atlanta history still serving the community with all its bygone era charm, instead of being torn down and replaced with an ugly soul-less box hotel!

Room Tip: Parking can be a little tight so we try to arrive early.

This was an amazing place to stay; the people were so friendly and upon my arrival I was offered a suite instead of the room that I had reservations for and they did not charge me extra for the better room. They were very helpful with directions and everything. Definitely a great place to stay if you are visiting Atlanta and within walking distance of many great places.

The hubby & I were in town to catch Grace Potter & The Nocturnals @ the Varisty Theatre, a slight stroll from The Highland. On a budget, we chose The Highland for the good rate, proximity to the club, and on a nod from a former Atlantan. Turns out the choice suited us perfectly. A laid back, welcoming & informative deskman greeted us and assured we were assigned a quiet room. Gave us great tips on places within walking distance for food & drink. Historic properties are most always intersting - this one no exception. Great little surrounding neighborhood - funky & fun. Mattress & bedding were the only disappointments, but I've slept on worse for more $. Overall thumbs up.

Room Tip: Upon making reservation, ask for the quietest room with a good mattress (if those qualities are impo...
