This is a wonderfully quirky place. It's old and only halfway remodeled, which is the way I hope it stays. When is the last time you got an actual KEY for a hotel room? The pipes and ductwork are fully visible and the plaster is imperfect, which is part of the charm. Rooms are idiosyncratic. Ours was kind of like two separate bedroom areas separated by a table and a bathroom that could be entered from either side. Shower only (huge shower) and lovely old tile. The sink was in the room, not the bathroom. We had two separate closets. It was really a great setup for two to share. Microwave and refrigerator. This place is also cheap by current standards and one hell of a value. Free parking if you get in the lot in time to snag a space. Not for everyone, though because the rooms are not cookie-cutter perfect as some expect. And there is NO elevator. If you are on the second floor you have to drag everything up a steep, narrow staircase. This is no place for old or disabled people unless you can get on the first floor perhaps. Noise was visible as people went through the halls, so if that really bothers you go somewhere else. AC is a window unit. It was big and cooled the room but if that bothers you... There is no view at all from most of the rooms. This is NOT downtown, so if you need to be downtown this isn't the place. It is located in the hippest area of Atlanta, walking distance to restaurants and bars and a quick drive to many others. I ended up making only one night of a 3 night reservation and they were VERY accommodating. The hotel charges a very reasonable $25 for a missed night and they charged me for one night rather than two. I really loved this place and would come back. If it's for you I think you know that after reading this far.

A 1927 building still under remodeling into a very quaint hotel. Be prepared. No elevator, narrow stairs, unexpected changes of floor height. I have not sen anything like it outside Europe. Clean and neat small room with rather loud window air conditioner. A step up into bathroom, sink had hot water on wrong side but correctly labeled, shower tiny, but water good and hot. Linens good quality and plenty of towels. Great location in charming neighborhood. Many good restaurants and shopping within walking distance. They could use some protein at breakfast, one friend called the breakfast area the carb room. Boiled eggs might be a good choice. Errors in review below. there is no pool or room service. Good value.

Room Tip: Ask for the south side of the building away from the basement lounge.

This hotel is an old renovated building. It has a very hip feel to it. The bed and room were very comfortable. I really enjoyed my stay at this place. You cannot beat this place for the price. It is located in a trendy area with plenty of options to eat. I will stay at this place every time I pass through Atlanta from now on.

Spent the night at The Highland for the John Hiatt show the other night. Got a good deal and was pleasantly surprised. If you want cookie cutter Hampton Inn, look elsewhere, but it's clean and quirky and in a great location. We walked to both Little 5 Points and Virginia Highlands for the hotel. Breakfast was very basic but was included in the room rate.

A nice "old timey", somewhat creepy hotel in a great location. Within reasonable walking distance of many great Atlanta attractions and restaurants, When we stayed, I did explore the hallways of this hotel and there were some areas under construction but it just added to it's atmosphere and style. All of the fixtures and locks are ancient but very similar and even better than a lot of the "boutique" style hotels I've stayed in across Western Europe. It also reminded me of older apartment buildings I have stayed in around New York City. We both enjoyed our stay here and would (and want to) stay here again,
