“Affordable and in Cute Neighborhood”
Reviewed 6 March 2014

This is not a fancy joint, but for $79 we stayed in a 2 bedroom suite, and there's breakfast in the morning. I loved that we stayed in a neighborhood where we could easily walk around and explore. Downside is that walls are thin. We could hear neighbors television all evening. Also breakfast room is very small. The hotel seems to have a lot of units, but the breakfast room can only comfortable accommodate 6 people at a time. I also liked the art on the walls.

The Highland Inn is definitely not for everyone but what it does offer it offers well. This is definitely an older, private facility not affiliated with any chain and is in an area that lacks many choices in accommodations to start. With nearly every other hotel in a 5 mile radius boasting rates in excess of $150, I latched onto a 2 Double Bed everyday rate of $73......and snagged it.

With two stories and no elevator, it's (again) not for everyone. It gave me the feel of being in a very old 1930's movie.....the paint, the pictures on the wall, the furniture.....it all looks charming and quaint but also has that 'this is what I saw in my grandmother's house when I was growing up' feel to it.

Free wifi, clean accommodations, flat-screen TV, and an 'in the window' heater..... which was definitely in order this particular evening. Worked like a charm and MUCH better than the one in a room I stayed while in a 'quaint' hotel in NYC that was 4x as expensive.

Don't go expecting this to be the be-all, end-all. Go because you want a good, comfortable, no-nonsense place to stay in this particular area INEXPENSIVELY and you'll be fine. And room keys? They're actual KEYS! When was the last time THAT happened!

Room Tip: Parking on the right side is tight but easy enough. And there's a lounge downstairs that had an...

I usually stay at larger hotels with high thread count sheets and adjustable shower heads. I wanted to save some money as this was a stopover on my way to Florida . The location is perfect for the overnight traveler or the tourist: right off of I-75 and close to downtown. There are many restaurants and bars located within walking distance which helps if you are drinking. The hotel itself is older and full of character: you'll find exposed pipes and chipped tile. Don't let this dissuade you! Rooms are clean, linens are fresh, and the staff is friendly. There is a window a/c unit which I put on "fan" to drown out street noise. Many reviewers have mentioned the showers and my experience was no exception. Water pressure is lower and you may need to work with the hot water but, again, this is an older building and the system will be taxed if several people are using their shower at the same time. There is a continental breakfast set up with the usual fare which is perfect for grabbing something for the road. Hotels.com has rooms for 55/night making this a fantastic deal. I'll be staying here again if I ever find myself in Atlanta!

The Highland Inn is not your typical American Hotel, in that it still has the charm of days gone by, the character of the Hotel is overwhelming, and it is in many ways a breath of fresh air in Atlanta for travellers. The rooms are quirky with the way they are set out, almost like small apartments with different rooms within the room. The beds are exceptionally comfortable and very clean, but the bathroom is a little on the small side, and I must admit the Hot Water in the Shower is only just warm. The neighbourhood is fantastic with a very cool vibe, and lots of great places to eat within walking distance. If you fancy something a little different in the Atlanta area don't be afraid to give this place a go.

We came to Atlanta for a business trip. After one night stay my husband had a huge allergy attack that he hasn't had in 15 years! The showers have zero water pressure and you have to "play" with the water to keep from being cold. It felt like taking a shower in the rain. The bed was not great and the window unit was turning on and off all night. That would not be an issue if they were not so loud. The breakfast is great for a light start. As far as the staff, some were more friendly than others. Others seemed they could care less.

Found this place while stranded in Atlanta due to car trouble, and it turned out to be a great, spontaneous overnight stay. The staff was very friendly and more than welcoming of our 35 pound dog (which is not our usual experience). The Inn has such a unique charm, and the room was very spacious and homey. Yes, it is older, so if you are expecting modern and fancy, this place is not for you. More room for us in that case! The location was great for heading out for dinner and a few beers, and we were even able to use Lyft for a quick ride back to the Inn. We even took the dog for a morning stroll and loved the surrounding neighborhood. The complimentary breakfast was simple but good. We will definitely stay here if we find ourselves back in Atlanta!

I stayed here for a couple nights for a job interview and I absolutely loved it. When I found out there was no hostel in Atlanta, I chose to stay here because it's relatively cheap compared to hotels in the area. It's old and funky which makes it that much better. My room was cute and I didn't want to leave! It was huge and had a lot of windows and a full closet. Even though my room faced a busy street, I slept peacefully all night. The hotel is in a great part of Atlanta, too, with pubs, restaurants, cafes, Atlanta Cupcake Factory, CrossFit, and even an independent movie theater all within walking distance. And only 3 miles from the North Avenue MARTA station. It is also about a 10-minute walk to the new BeltLine which is a new 22-mile biking/running path that goes through the city. Perfect if you want to get a little exercise and see some of the city. Literally the ONLY downside is that the shower took a while to get hot and the temperature fluctuated a bit while showering (first world problems, right?). Breakfast was simple, but perfect. They had bagels, coffee, juice, cream cheese, cereal, fruit, etc. The staff was great and gave me great advice on cheap places to eat nearby. I would definitely stay here again and I HIGHLY recommend it.
