Visited Georgia Tech for our sons and this hotel was an economical choice. I must be honest though, when researching hotel, I was amazed by the management's responses to every TA review. At first I thought the general manager was kooky, but then after reading pages after pages of reviews, I realized that he simply embraces social media and is making the most of it. I think the GM is honest and quirky; two attributes I like in a person, based on his responses. So really, that's the reason we chose to stay here.

This hotel is in easy walking distance to a Marta train stop and we used only public transportation for our entire visit. It's great when an airport is so well connected to public transport. We walked to Georgia Tech, the weather was gorgeous all weekend. There are plenty of restaurants near by or a short Marta trip away.

At first, I didn't think the hotel had proper curtains, and I used a piece of jewelry to tie the side curtains together. But then when I went to my sons' room, they showed me how the black-out curtains were tucked way inside the side curtains. Oops! The bed was comfy, and we felt the room was a nice size. It was noisy out in the courtyard in the evening, but I turned the AC auto fan on and that drowned out the noise enough to sleep like a baby.

Breakfast was delicious and made the hotel an even greater value. WIFI was more than sufficient.

We liked Atlanta, it was my first trip of staying rather than driving through. And if we could afford it, I would love to send my sons to Georgia Tech, what a fabulous campus and great course offerings. We'll see.

If we ever return, we'd definitely stay here again.

Quirky... on Merriam-Webster "something that is strange / not normal but cool".

I suppose I could repay the compliment by stating it takes one to know one.
and I will.

You've travelled 59,000 miles visited 12 countries and 63 cities 8% of the world.
And in all your reviews you come across as a really confident and spunky person.

From the comment about breakfast at the Microtel in Louisville East...
"breakfast was not very tasty...but hey it's free...don't like it...eat elsewhere"
to the....
"Sorry to have written a novella of a review but this resort is top notch"
on the....Zoetry Paraiso de la Bonita in Mexico.

Anyway...
when I think quirky types... I think of Zooey Deschanel and Diane Keaton...
the cast of Friends...and the cast of The Big Bang Theory...to name a few..
all unique...self-deprecating and loveable at the same time.

As for my preferred definition of the word Quirky...
well..

I like the Urban Dictionary version..."wearing long stripy socks that are odd".

G

PS... regardless of where you teenagers end up going to college...
I suspect... that your genes.. will "force" them to be rather unique too.

Front desk staff was very friendly, all three different ones I had encountered. Room was small, but clean and comfortable. I expect that many hotel rooms in this area are likely small and it did not bother me. The space the room did have was used well. Bed was comfortable. All girls love to see Bath and Body work toiletries, always a big bonus. Bathroom small (again, to be expected) but I love nothing more than a good shower head in my hotel room. Water pressure and temperature was great. Loved the location! Very short walk to the Hard Rock Cafe for drinks and food. Looked like the was a lot to do a few blocks up the road, but I spent most of my time at Atlantic Station, which was just a 2 mile drive ($10-$13 taxi ride)

Biggest negatives: I believe I stayed in room 323 and the door was terrible and noisy (sorry neighbors!) It looked as if at one point, the door had to be busted open and was never fixed. Before I realized how hard it was to close the door, I left my room for an hour or so, came back and my door wasn't all the way shut!! Nothing stolen or anything, but still a possibiility. I know the GM reads these comments, so you may want to look into that.

Yes, people rolling luggage and cleaning carts woke me up multiple times. I can excuse that. However, one morning, before 10 am during the weekend, the housekeepers were yelling down the hallway at to other and I just found that to be very rude. Keep in mind that some of your guests are here from the west and 9 AM Eastern is 6 AM for some of us who made have just arrived the night before.

Also found a bar of used soap was never removed from my bathroom. Makes you wonder how well the toilet and tub were cleaned if the soap wasn't removed.

Room Tip: Courtyard room seemed noisy, maybe you'll have better luck in a different room type.

I had a tough time determining...how best to respond to your comments.

SO...I decided to respond "forensically"... sorry if it "reads" as too direct.

Your door frame and lock...did look like someone "busted" in.
Have no clue...as to when or why it ended up this way.
Nor as to why our Inspectors did not report it and simply have it fixed.
Anyway...it has been fixed... and properly.

Rolling luggage and cleaning carts are noisy over the cobblestone.
HAVING a surface treatment put on it in to make it quiet.

Employees yelling down the hall...well there is no "treatment" for that.
Yes.. they know better... and used to be so very quiet..

But I have found... an awful lot has changed these past months..
perhaps past two years or so..
and people...both guests and employees...

appear to be "oblivious" to that which used to be "normal"...
which was to BE QUIET passing a guest room or walking in a hall...
or sitting in our open air courtyard.

You found a used bar of soap upon check in...and "you wonder"..
how well the toilet and tub were cleaned".

I can share that in our most recent inspection... 04/18/14
Housekeeping lost ...not a single point on bathroom cleanliness.

BUT...yes... that is not relevant...and yes I just wrote that...
so that our readers... would know that was more a misstep.

Anyway....I too wonder...how well THAT bathroom was cleaned.

Anyway....sorry for the multiple missteps...
hope we have not lost you forever...and if yes...

then...contact me... at ... gdvelis@innatthepeachtrees....
SO THAT... I can grovel... and have a chance to "win" you back.

We had expected a little better from this Best Western Plus having stopped at others.
Staff were all friendly and courteous and the downtown area was a short walk away as were stops for the Marta subway.
Plenty of places to dine nearby. Within walking distance of Coca Cola, CNN & Aquarium.
The hotel was functional and provided the basic amenities you require but there was a musty smell in rooms & corridors, and whilst generally clean the carpets, particularly those in the dining area, were in need of replacement. No bar.

Please excuse this second response as it replaces the one I sent to you in May.

It is odd for me to resubmit... because you already have read that response...
and now...here in June...
Trip Advisor notified me .... they had to remove it because it violated a rule.
And that.... I understand and respect.

The rule being... that I acknowledged you as to what your profession was.
I think it is a really great and exciting job... but it identified you.

Anyway...
here is the same response with the "identifier" removed.

========================================

GOOD is what we strive for....YES we know it always good to do better...
and we always will challenge ourselves.

There are indeed a lot of great world class hotels here in downtown.

We humbly and honorably enjoy simply being viewed as a good, clean,
and modern little Inn....with some nice and free features of the big brands.

That stated... I was really not sure how to respond to your review...
because ...I was intimidated...and perhaps that is not the correct word...
because...
what you wrote... and what you wrote about in ALL of your other reviews...
was so perfectly well written... and I was impressed.

Almost ... "like a" ... professional travel writer.

And so...I wanted to write something...just as eloquent....

Then...I read in one of your reviews.....that you...
are a (edited out) _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _

You have stayed at some of the most remarkable hotels in the world...
from your home base in England...to Tenerife, Spain and South Africa...
and yet...
while you were complimentary of all...(with some helpful suggestions too)

You reserved your best headline for a small lodge in England...
the...Grayham Lodge in Gainesbourough..." A real Gem"...
simply because...
the good owners provided some rather special...offerings...
which...
Virginia and I will implement here in Atlanta in our quest to be great.

Anyway... thank you for your comments... they were appreciated

AND YES... we are replacing that carpet in the dining area...it IS time.

Exceptional hotel in the middle of everything in Atlanta. Very accommodating staff and great breakfast choices. Their courtyard area was very relaxing. I would highly recommended this location for anyone planning on visiting Atlanta's main tourist attractions.

Every General Manager... anywhere...everywhere... feels great to read "exceptional".

Our little property... we ... me and Virginia...think of as an "Inn"...
and some think of as hotel... some as motel...because of our exterior corridors.

Has plusses and minuses...
and based on.. the guests / travelers experiences and exposures...expectations..
can run the gambit from... good to great to poor.

But what cannot be taken away...is when someone is happy...
even with...our flaws...limitations..
has a good time... and thanks us with "exceptional".

SO... thanks... and YES... our Courtyard area... I like too.
I eat breakfast outside...and my read paper...whenever the weather is good.
Really starts the day just right...

Bangalore, India amongst the top 10 preferred entrepreneurial locations in the world.

Bangalore, India.... The nations leading information technology exporter...
their... "Silicone valley" of India...
and the fourth.... amongst the top 15 cities contributing to India's GDP.

AND finally...not only the "Garden City" of India due to it's great climate...
but...amongst the worlds top cities to visit.

SO...we humbly appreciate your rating on our rooms of "not that great".

India is the home base of not only Oberoi Hotels and Resorts...
but of so many many...many...world class hotels that I have been impressed..
with for years.

On Trip Advisor for Bangalore...I saw / see ...
that Best Western has two properties ranked.. # 50 and # 89 out of 548.
That is impressive too.

Our rooms are indeed....not great...but good, modern and... only 3 years old.
We are having a visit/ planning session with Best Western designers...
on how to proceed with making ourselves more impressive...

STILL... will have SMALL sized rooms... like our 13 downtown hotel colleagues
but...me and Virginia....or is it... Virginia and I... think you will like.

IF you want to see GREAT rooms... in specifically ...downtown Atlanta...
my favorite... of the many good hotels here....and there are many...
is the W Atlanta.

Anyway... wish we had met with you to chat....
and... YES... adding Bangalore... to our "Bucket List" of places to visit.

Hotel staff were very friendly and check in and check out was a breeze. I found the room a good size and nice and clean. Cleaner kept replacing the soap for the shower and sink each day which i found unnecessary and a waste. Shower was amazing. Hotel was in a good location and with in walking distance to most attractions. I found the MARTA Civic Centre Station was the easiest to get to the hotel from. Breakfast was nice, the ladies there do a good job.

Now, the negative. Because the all rooms have external entries the walkways are concrete which echoes every foot step, every bit of laughter and every door slam. The worst and the loudest though were the suit case wheels and the cleaning carts.

A nice place to stay, just a little noisy.

Unnecessary waste and noise.....two issues...we can fix...and soon.

The soap...and shampoo / conditioner all individual items that are wasted.
Now that stated...I was...surprised to find / see that the new Aloft...
has resolved that issue.

I happened to go visit the new Aloft behind our hotel...this week...
and not only is it a really great looking hotel...but they conserve well.

I saw in their shower area a wall mounted liquid dispenser...
that dispensed what you need and only has to be refilled...I loved it.

Now that is not to say...that the "fix" is theirs alone...but I was not aware.
SO... anyway...by coincidence...
we are scheduled for a visit by the Best Western Design team...in June...

and as part of that visit and plan for new "stuff"...
to keep our hotel...which while only three years open..
relevant...
for all travelers...and the ... millennnials
which every hotel chain / brand is changing for and to...to please...
we will include this delivery dispenser...
and...
YES... add carpeting/soundproofing material...to our walkways.

YES...I know...millennials...are not the only generation that respects...
"mother earth".... I do...but ...I could do better.

Honesty Day...National honesty day is today 30 April... never knew that.

According to Wikipedia...it has been "around" since 1991...
and I have no clue... as to why I never heard of before today.

The day was "created" to counter....
April 1st the day for "lying"...by ending the month with the truth.

Anyway...
in all HONESTY...I have to share...that EVERY hotel downtown...
has...a great location...a wonderful staff....and...good value pop ups.

While we can all... "miss" and disappoint at times...
you will find that wherever you stay...
the General Managers... are ALL really good human beings...and care...
and have surrounded themselves with good people.

SO...
thanks for staying with us this time... hope you come back to us...
but if not... and you stay elsewhere...you will be happy wherever....
so...
simply enjoy your time in Atlanta...it's a great City.
