“Stay in Atlanta, GA”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 28 May 2014

Excellent location for our stay was close to our activity. Persons at hotel were very pleasing from the desk to breakfast to maintenance to housekeeping supervisor. Even the clerk came outside and gave us a "thumbs-up" when we left giving a gentleman on the street some extra treats we had left.

So our front desk agent... gave you a "thumbs up"....outside ...as you left from our hotel...
and... gave "someone" on the street ...treats. Your treats.

I find that both... odd ... and somewhat..."adorable" too.

Glad you had a good stay.

This hotel may not be one of the newest or most updated but what it lacks is far outweighed by the friendly service. I had trouble making my reservation through the 800 serrvice due to the hotel being at full capacity so I called the hotel direct. I had the pleasure of speaking with Shannon. She explained the situation and asked for my contact information. I was quite pleased when she called me back to say she could accomodate us. Shannon was very professional, personable and far exceeded my expectations by going that extra mile. I go to the Atlanta Mart several times a year and will choose Best Western over the more lavish hotels due to the friendly service. Cudo's to Shannon!!!

I hate being rejected...yes I know ...who doesn't.

But my first response to your very kind...good review...was rejected...
because it did not meet the criteria for Trip Advisor reviews.

SO... let me try again ... to express... what I wanted to share with you..
without... breaking the rules.

HERE GOES..."take two"

Shannon we agree is indeed one of our most "outstanding" employees.
we have many really good ones... but she consistently is spot on.

The OTHER hotels in downtown Atlanta... also have outstanding employees.
and those who... stood out just as well as the staff our little Inn.

The Hyatt Regency has Thomas the waiter who made a guests day perfect.
The Artmore has Carlotta and April on the desk who acted like "owners do"
W Atlanta has Courtney on the front desk...who made a wife's birthday great.

Holiday Inn Express with Flourette who smiled and gave no "canned" responses.
Holiday Inn with Gigi who was top notch and made everyone feel appreciated.
Westin Peachtree has Casey Ladner...who really cares about his guests.

Hampton Inn GA Tech has Star on the desk who got breakfast "after hours"
for guests and then went ahead... and served them too.

Sheraton Atlanta who had Jerome Smith find the perfect guest room...
for guests who were celebrating a very special evening.

Some hotel operators will state that they train their staffs...
to the highest standards to perform flawlessly...
AND... okay... that is true...

But the BOTTOM LINE.. is that "service standards"..
that does not guarantee...
that the "attitude" and genuine concern come along with that.
It takes .... very special people... to convey that feeling.

SO...
happy... that you found us good... and Shannon great...
and please know... as I always state...
EVERY hotel downtown... wants to please their guests.

Very good location, you can walk to the main attractions and in Atlanta downtown, safe parking, very convenient. The bedroom was ok, some noise early in the morning. The breakfast vas really bad, not even a fresh orange juice, everything is industrial and bread/muffins were dried...

After one hight in Hilton Garden Inn Atlanta Downtown we decided to move somewhere else and we found empty slot in Best Western Inn at the Peachtrees. Very good a newly renovated room was equipped with nice furnitures and very comfort beds. The parking was almost for free (when we compare with the one next door to Hilton). The quality in general was very close to the aforementioned Hilton but for much better price. If you are not spoiled for „brand desire illness” I can easily recommend to you this hotel. Service excellent and trustful (we checked their recommendation on the local restaurant and we did not become the victims of „tourist trap”.

I can agree with you... that "BRAND" name alone does not guarantee quality.

I read all of your...other reviews... and know you are a Hilton Honors member.
And so it made me... feel bad...that your experience at...
the... Hilton Garden Inn Atlanta downtown... was not great.

But as you state in your reviews... brand hotels... both in the US and Europe
can be... and were inconsistent... among those you have stayed at.
Marriott...Hilton...Comfort Inn...and independents.

Which included...Best Western too...
you disliked the one in Orlando... and liked the one in the French Quarter.

And so...it is with our hotel...there are those who do not find us favorable...
and...
there are those...LIKE YOU... who found us a good place to stay...
and during your visit to Atlanta... we made a good impression.
And so...thank you for that... but...

I want to mention that...I liked reading your commentary about the...
Country Music Hall of Fame and Museum...
where you shared that while you do not have a fondness for Country music...
"some parts of the nice music to my heart what surprised me a lot too"..

AND SO... it is with that Hilton Garden Inn...the General Manager...
Harman Hall...like all of us General Managers...does not always please...
but...he and his employees... always want to please.

So...on your next visit to Atlanta...it would be nice....of you...
to find...some parts..."of the nice music"...in your heart...
to give him and them...another chance and stay there.

It is a really good hotel... and you might just be surprised.

The Hotel is located within walking distance of the convention centers and many of the nicer restaurants. The building is small and could use some renovations. The elevators are slow and could use a coat of paint. The rooms are extremely small, especially the bathrooms. I would speculation the better rooms are on the first floor. My room was on the third floor across from the roof of the kitchen.

Scream...is what we think about doing ...when we read reviews about small rooms.

But...we General Managers ...are all professionals...so we don't.
Truth is I don't recall...
ever screaming about / for anything... except maybe Taylor in concert.
And no... I won't clarify...if that is...James...or...Swift.

SMALL rooms...and or small bathrooms...or small room and bathrooms...
is a "curse"... for 14 of the 26 hotels in the true downtown Atlanta area.

The hotels that I am aware of ..that have... what you would "expect" in size..
are the...
W Atlanta...Omni CNN...Sheraton...Hilton...Marriott Marquis...Aloft...
Ritz-Carlton. Twelve Centennial Park... Embassy Suites...Residence Inn..
and... the Hyatt Regency and Hilton Garden Inn.

NOW that shared...that is not to say...that the other 14 really good hotels...
don't have... larger rooms in their inventory... they do...
we do too....
OF the 109 rooms we have...5 are large...56 are good sized...45 small...
and... 3 ...really small.

Bottom line...is that...WHILE we could have/should have.. done a better job...
in...making sure...you had a good sized room upon check in...
instead of randomly "assigning"...unless...the hotel was FULL...

please on your next visit to Atlanta...at ANY HOTEL you choose...
let the front desk staff know...and they will do what they can.

ALL ...26...hotels and GM's...want you to be satisfied.

Anyway...
contact me ... gdvelis@innatthepeachtrees.com....
and on your next visit to Atlanta..... IF you allow me a "second" chance...
stay as my guest...in a LARGE room...yes...all on the first floor.

G

PS...YES while only three years old...upgrading everything including elevator.

We stayed for one night prior to a wedding in Atlanta. The hotel was easy to find and has convenient parking under the hotel. The reception staff were personable, cheerful and helpful, if a little busy handling a large party of juveniles when we arrived.

The hotel is built around an uncovered courtyard so if it is raining (and it really was when we were there) you might get damp getting to your room.

The room was pretty standard, clean and well presented - you can't ask for more!

We had to leave very early in the morning, so missed the breakfast

Room Tip: Courtyard rooms on the side nearest reception are quiet and you won't get wet of it rains.

128,689 miles travelled... 17 Countries / 79 cities... 11 % of the world... impressive.

But not as impressive as your sharing...that your trips were a combination of...
company and personally funded trips....
that to me let's me know you are humble... and a respectful human being.

In all of your reviews...
from China to Argentina to France to South Africa...to Denmark...and UK
and basically everywhere...you always comment on wines... I liked those.

I wish I could know what exactly it is that you did prior to retiring in Dahlonega.
And YES...
I know that Dahlonega is named among the best places to retire in America.

As for the wine commentaries you make... I agree that you would think...
that in Georgia most places would serve local Georgia wines...they are good.
but don't...
and it is another reason Dahlonega is special to me and Virginia...
because they DO... offer/serve local wines...
and YES...
I know that Dahlonega and Lumpkin County...are recognized..
as..."the heart of the North Georgia Wine Country"....
and a great place to go visit... very very....surprisingly interesting city.

Anyway...wish I had met you....I love the photo of you and the straw hat...
AND...
as for the "juveniles" running around...well those juveniles were all athletes
competing in a track and field event here in Atlanta.

Stayed here as was attending a show at GWCC. The Hotel is excellently located - the GWCC and nearby attractions - eg Aquarium, World of Coca Cola etc as well as MARTA, bars, restuarants etc are only a few blocks away and can be walked to.

I was on the 4th floor and found it very quiet, the room was spotlessly cleaned daily, had everything I needed and was plenty space for me. All of the staff I encountered were helpful and friendly and I felt that they knew who was supposed to be around and who wasn't - they questioned a random person who walked in off the street, not like some larger more anonymous hotels.

I would definitely recommend staying here as it's good value. Breakfast was nice -plentiful and hot food kept to temperature. Business Suite was great - gym looked good but I didn't use it. I felt safe and secure here.

I think the main measure of a hotel is whether you would be happy to go chill out in the room and common areas - I was here, it was a real home from home, where as I stayed in a more expensive hotel in a different city just after leaving here and couldn't get out fast enough!

The only way it could be improved is to have a bar and offer evening meals/lunches.

Room Tip: I was in room 431 at the end of the 4th (top) floor and it was so quiet - had no difficulty sleeping...
