“One night that was perfect!”
Reviewed 17 August 2011

We stayed at the Ritz in Buckhead for just one night. The room is clean, quiet and the right size. They took care of my request to remove the comforter and other bedding that makes the bed hot. Also, breakfast was good. We had the bed and breakfast rate. We decided not to do the breakfast buffet. We ordered off the menu and it was delicious. We will return.

My wife and I had our wedding at this Ritz and everything was perfect. We did a lot of shopping around at the nice venues around Atlanta, but this property won because of their ability to serve 225+ people EXCELLENT food at the same time. They do not use warming trays or anything like that and actually plate the food then bring it out right away. Our guests could not stop raving about how great the food was at our wedding. The food is really what made this Ritz stand out from other places in Atlanta, but they do everything else right too.

Room Tip: The Ritz Carlton suite is great for hosting people in your room, lots of space!

I took the kids for a couple days to experience some of the things Atlanta has to offer, and the staff made them feel like super special guest. They got arm bands that allowed them unlimited ice cream and did a scavenger hunt throughout the hotel. The indoor pool is huge and they enjoyed the nightly swims and the view of the city lights. The hotel is not near the aquarium or the coke museum but the cab ride is short. Fun for a weekend.

I've stayed at this hotel several times in the past year, generally one-to-two times a month for a few nights. I'm amazed how quickly the hotel staff has learned my name and make every effort to quietly take note of my tastes and expectations while at the hotel. As with any hotel, there have been a few (very few) instances where the hotel hasn't lived up to expectations, but all-in-all this is a very enjoyable hotel that is very consistent in it's comfort and quality.

My wife and I were in Atlanta for the night and stayed at the Ritz Carlton, Buckhead. She chose the hotel for its pool, which indeed was nice, but we encountered too many issues to be interested in returning.

In no particular order, issues we noted included:

1. The valet offered us a choice of $32/night valet parketing vs. $17/night self-parking but failed to inform us of the important nuance that self-parking did not include in-and-out privileges.

2. At night, the hotel's side entrance by the self-park lot is locked, with no hotel key card access.

3. The bedspread in the room was mildly stained.

4. Although the TV in the room was a nice unit, the reception on most of the channels was poor.

5. Although the thermostat allowed us to set it to whatever room temperature we desired, the cooling system did not seem to be able to cool the room below about 73F or so.

6. The toilet flush and shower spray were weak.

7. Is morning newspaper delivery no longer a standard Ritz service?

8. There was no venue in the hotel for a "grab-and-go" breakfast.

Obviously, none of these issues by itself was all that terrible, but taken cumulatively, they diminished the quality of the stay well below what we expect at a Ritz property. Thus, we rate the hotel as merely "Average" amongst hotels rather than the Very Good to Excellent we expect at a Ritz. Although we certainly won't rule out other Ritz properties because of this experience, we don't plan on returning to this property as there are too many other hotels in the vicinity that purport to offer the same level of accommodation as we had expected to find at the Ritz.

This was a pleasant surprise. We were in Atlanta for a conference and workshop that I attend every year in July. The sponsoring group has hosted this event at some real losers. Our expectations are guarded. The Ritz exceeded any expectation we could have had. The amentities were subtle but abundant. Bath robes and slippers, turn down service with chocolates and bottled water, a white noise machine in the room, extra towels and pillows, quality coffee with the coffee machine and real half and half and Splenda, two suit case stands, a room safe without an extra fee (take note Comfort Inn!), and bottled water for the coffee machine (all bottled water free).

The room was spacious and clean, with a big working desk with plenty of outlets. The room had two comfortable sitting chairs. The bed was comfortable. And the room was always made up consistent with our schedule, even though we made no special requests. Obviously Housekeeping is paying attention.

The staff was very professional and helpful throughout the hotel. Polite and welcoming. Very knowledgeable and eager to please. Whenever I made a call to ask for assistance or with a question, I was greeted by name.

Unfortunately, I was able to use the pool and fitness center only once because of my schedule. The pool was a legitimate lap pool and bath water comfortable. Again great amentities. Disposable earphones and cold bottled water. And plenty of bath sized towels. Longer evening hours, until 11:00 p.m., would have been nice.

My only suggestion for improvement is free wireless internet. The Ritz had a daily or weekly charge. There are free hot spots within the hotel, such as the Lobby, but when traveling on business, room internet access is a must. With so many other extras offered as part of the package, this should be one of them

This is my second stay at the Ritz-Carlton, Buckhead and it lived up to and exceeded my expectations. I stay in lots of hotels and the lobby art and antiques are some of the best I've seen. The staff is very friendly, helpful, and aplenty. On top of this, two of the best shopping venues - Phipps Plaza and Lenox Square - are a 2-3 block walk in either directon. Between the two, you can get everything from Gucci bags to Crate & Barrel barware. When in Phipps, try Twist! Restaurant. It's a bit loud, but the fare is good and at a decent price for this expensive area of Atlanta, GA.
