For our 20th wedding anniv. we spent 2 nights @ the Rtiz-Carlton Buckhead. It was almost two different hotels. The first night--new year's eve--the hotel was at close to full occupancy and the difficulties the hotel experienced at a check in were erased the next day when the hotel was closer to 20% occupancy.
After making reservations on the phone and wanting to make sure the staff knew it was our 20th anniv--this was missed at check in--the staff made sure our actual day was memorable. They delivered complimentary champagne on the afternoon of Jan 1--our wedding day and then after we came back from dinner they had rose petals spread across the room. Beautiful.
On the 1st we also went to the spa and had two separate treatments. It was great. My wife and I each enjoyed.
We also stayed on the club level. An interesting choice and one that I found great value in. I enjoyed meeting new people at the club and was able to work through dedicated concierge's. Lucia was very helpful with dinner recommendations and reservations. Most items were available at user's discretion. Ample amounts of wine and champagne--it was New Year's eve--were available. For beer drinkers you do have to ask, but I found little difficulties in asking for and receiving your standard fare.
The staff was also very helpful in arranging a car to take us to dinner. A nice mall is across from the hotel. So in choosing this hotel over the downtown Ritz proved to be a good decision. Spa, plus nearby mall, plus ease of rapid transit to Georgia Dome for bowl game made everything worth while.
On the downside. I will say that the rooms are loud. Specifically the doors close loudly. With a slam and a powerful click. As you might imagine on new year's eve people were coming and going at all hours of the night and morning. It was surprising to me that the hotel doesn't have pressurized door components that help to soften the closing mechanism. It unfortunately reminded me of a college dorm. Not quite as bad, but you really shouldn't have even a portion of that feeling at the Ritz Carlton. Here's to hoping they address that issue soonest.
The workout facilities were wonderful with a great pool and plenty of workout machines. WiFi worked well and was painless to get hooked up and operational.
