“Problems with cleaning staff”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 7 January 2009

My husband I stayed at the Doubletree-Northlake for three nights just after the new year. While the other comments about the hotel itself are accurate (first impression, room amenities), we were totally disappointed by the lack of service of the cleaning staff. Our room was never vaccuumed and various items (such as face towels and coffee) were intermittently replenished, if at all. Dirty glassware was left untouched. Our written requests for additional things were ignored. I am posting something here about it because we were told that there had been a number of other complaints - so hopefully anyone staying soon will not have high expectations, but that in the medium term things will be fixed. It sounded like there had been a crew change which may have been responsible for the decrease in quality.

Also, those of you used to Doubletrees as a suite hotel should be aware that there are only three suites in this facility - the rooms, while typical Hilton/Doubletree quality, are just regular rooms and do not have refrigerators/microwaves standard.

A few notes about location. The hotel is right off 285 and about 20-30 minutes from most everything, including downtown Atlanta, Buckhead, and Stone Mountain. The nearby Northlake Mall - which the hotel materials claim you can walk to, but I wouldn't recommend that as it's very busy traffic-wise - is hardly "fashionable" in my opinion (just your average mall stores) but if you are looking for upscale, check out the Perimeter Mall about 20 minutes farther north on 285. There are also quite a few other clusters of stores in that location as well as quality restaurants.

Finally , a hotel that is designed for the frequent traveller in mind. The design is a spacious , comfortable hotel with a waterfall in the lobby and at the pool. The room seemed oversized , with a great Television and it seems like one of those commercials where you want to touch the screen to see if it is real or not! The beds are everything the previous reviewer said, the best sleep I ever had in a hotel.
The hotel has a local restaurant chain called Marlowe's run the restaurant in the hotel. The food is just what travellers are looking for. This is really serious bar food ( and the drinks are at the same level!) Try the Firecracker Shrimp for an appetizer and the Black and Blue Salad for an entree. Surf and Turf for the new millenium.
I used to fight the crowds on Monday mornings at the airports and then drive through downtown out to my work in Decatur. Now that I have found the new Doubletree at Northlake , I am going to come in on Sunday night and enjoy a great dinner at Marlowe's and sleep in luxury on Monday mornings!!!

I had the chance to stay at the Doubletree in Northlake last month and it has to be one of the best Doubletrees i've stayed at. I don't stay in the Atlanta area much, but this hotel is a gem. The front desk clerk told me that they had just reopened after an extensive renovation, and it shows. Everything was brand new, and looked fantastic. The first thing you see when you walk in is an indoor waterfall, which is very cool. The lobby had fantastic hardwood floors, and the walls had really nice flat screen tvs around them.

The rooms were great as well. The beds were no doubt the most comfortable i've ever slept in in a hotel. Pillow top mattress, great sheets, and a really nice headboard. The room had a really nice LCD tv in it, which was really super. Also had WiFi internet, which is always a plus.

I have to give this hotel 5 stars. Really cool, modern design and doesn't sacrifice comfort.
